47 Payback 7

7: 30 PM, the same day

The specific cafe written on the back of the card that Jenny had received was located on the side of a highway which saw a lot of traffic.

Yet, it looked very run down, as if it hadn't been renovated in a long time.

When Jenny reached the location, she actually had to double check whether she had come to the right place.

It was because there was a closed sign on the door, and there were no cars parked in the driveway.

Of course, she knew that locations in which such meetings occurred were meant to be empty and free of public distractions. Hence, it was very likely that this place had been shut down for the meeting.

After parking the car which she had taken for rent using a fake identity, Jenny carefully wrapped a scarf around her face which covered most of it except her eyes. Oversized sunglasses finished her look, making it so that no one would be able to guess who she was no matter how much they tried.

Although they knew who she was, she had no intention of giving a chance to anyone who might be watching to take pictures of her entering this place or to take a video recording of the events that would happen inside. She had clearly thought everything out, and she had made sure that she would be safe no matter what.

Taking a file in her hand, she carefully checked everything inside.

She had written down all the things she had overheard about Sylvex and there were also many details such as their game plan to crash Happle's stock price. As for things such as the recent incident where she had sabotaged Liz, they weren't in the file as she couldn't give any proof about them without implicating herself.

Her goal was to only use the proofs which had no relation to her, so that she wouldn't fall into the trap if there was one waiting for her inside.

After making sure that everything was fine, she took it in her hands before reaching the door and knocking.

A handsome man in a nondescript black suit was the one to open the door. Roughly saying "Security," he frisked her before waving an arm and gesturing at her to enter.

After she did so, he exited the cafe and closed the door behind him.

After entering, Jenny panicked on seeing that the brainless PA was standing inside while looking at her.

The sight of the woman reminded her of the events in the restaurant, but she quickly calmed down knowing that there was no way that she knew that Jenny was the one behind it because of the fact that she had returned the dress.

"The CEO is delayed due to some urgent matter. He sent me in his stead. Hand over the proofs, and I have the cheque ready."

As she said this in a cold voice, Jenny smiled to herself knowing that the woman was probably jealous.

Walking forward and handing over the file, she waited in silence as Liz went through everything.

After a few minutes, she nodded and took out a check from her pocket which was signed for $ 2 million.

Jenny's eyes lit up with greed as she saw this. Quickly taking it into her hands, she felt it to make sure she wasn't dreaming and struggled to control her emotions.

"You will be paid very handsomely for every piece of vital information that you give to Happle about Sylvex. The CEO instructed me to tell you that you will regret it if you think about playing both sides. You know who has more money in the bank, so he hopes that you will take the right decision. I will be in touch to give you the information that you will feed to Sylvex. You can go now."

Nodding, Jenny quickly made her way to the door, but she was halted by Liz who started to walk towards her while saying, "Just one last thing. I have something that I need you for…"

Suddenly, the speakers in the café started to play something familiar that horrified Jenny.

"Good job with the PA. Just make sure you aren't caught, or the boss won't be happy."

Her conversation with the man from Sylvex! How the hell had someone managed to record it?!

No, no, no! This couldn't be happening! There couldn't be proof implicating her directly!

Panic and fear rocked her, making her freeze in her spot as the PA moved closer and closer to her.

As the conversation between her and the man progressed to the point where she blatantly admitted what she did, Jenny knew that it was all over.

As if to confirm her thoughts, a door opened in front of her, revealing the CEO whose eyes were similarly wide open with shock

———-

On the other side of the door, William, who had been led to the back of the cafe after he had arrived at the appointed time of 7: 40 PM, was slightly annoyed at the fact that he was being made to wait.

The man in the black suit who had done so had only said that he would have to wait a little while before entering inside.

He was in the kitchen, and there was a door which led to the dining area.

The seconds ticked by, and with the passing time, Will's patience started to run thin.

People waited for him; it was seldom the other way around, and this annoyed him.

"The information better be good. Whoever we are waiting for, I hope they come in the next one minute, or I'm leaving."

Hearing him speak like so, the black-suited man smiled coldly before checking his watch.

At that exact moment, the recording began to play on the speakers which were also inside the Kitchen.

His smile widening on seeing the startled expression on the CEO's face, the man opened the door and gestured grandly, saying, "Go on in."

Indeed, waves of shock had begun to crash into Will as he heard the words being said in the recording. Just as he was about to doubt them, he saw two women through the door that had just been opened by the other man.

The first of them, whom he recognized to be Liz, stumbled and fell forward, ripping off the scarf on the face of the other woman and revealing her to be Jenny, the receptionist.

And from the voice emanating through the speakers and the panic and fear in Jenny's face, Will understood clearly that it was all real.

Sylvex…had planned all this? And Jenny had been the one behind what happened in the restaurant?!

Had…he been wrong all along? He wondered, as shock battered his heart and made him feel regret for the first time in years.
