In search of the rebellious teenager, they had searched the forest for a day. They had hardly stopped except for a short break in the evening and to let the people return to prepare their gear.

This forest was primitive with a lot of ferocious beasts living in it. If he were to charge in and met with danger, it would be hard to say what would happen. So, the urgent task was to find him as soon as possible.

But unexpectedly during the process of their search, Fu Hengyi and the others actually came across such an unforeseen news.

If the group of people they encountered were really criminals, and that young man were to fall into those hands, perhaps there would be big trouble.

“Damn it, such a kid should be strung up for a beating. He has been living well for too long. He’s itching for a spanking and deserves to be whipped,” someone cursed.

They had no weapons on them. If they were to encounter criminals armed with firearms, it was really difficult to say who would emerge the winner.

Fu Hengyi leaned against a tree and crossed his arms in contemplation. His face held no expression. Even if he had heard the complaints of his subordinates, he did not say a word until a voice came on his earpiece.

“Brother Fu.” The man on the other end of the line had a heavy tone.

Fu Hengyi’s heart sank, for fear that the situation had already taken a turn for the worst.

“Well, go ahead and speak.”

“Brother Fu, I have already checked thoroughly. This gang is indeed a group of criminal fugitives. The leader is indeed the murderer of the ‘3.15’ murder case, posted online not long ago. The person we’re looking for is also in their hands.”

Fu Hengyi’s face looked grave and he was silent for a long time.

“Brother Fu, what do we do now?”

“I’ll inform the local police and you’ll continue to keep watch.”

He glanced at the time. It was still early now and not a good time to rescue the person.

Once he broke off the communication, he contacted the local police and simply relayed the proceedings of the matter. He had worked with the local police before he was discharged from the military service. They were familiar with Fu Hengyi.

Having received the call from Fu Hengyi, it immediately attracted the attention of the local police.

Fu Hengyi briefly communicated with them about the next course of action, which he had just decided.

Fu Hengyi was willing to cooperate with their operation, which was naturally what the local police wanted. And they soon set up a rescue plan.

Not only the person whom Fu Hengyi was looking for was in the hands of that group of people, a few local residents were with them as well. It must be the gang of criminals deliberately captured them as hostages. It was said that there were women and children among them.

Fu Hengyi made a hand gesture and a group of people advanced toward the direction of the wooden house. It appeared seemingly slow, but in fact, it was swift. Clearly there was a number of people, but they did not create much sound of activity. They were like ghosts of the night, moving about in silence.

The wooden house soon appeared in front of their eyes. Fu Hengyi signaled with his hands and each person laid low on the spot. From the angle of Fu Hengyi’s point of view, he could see that there were two people in front of the wooden house, each with a weapon in hand and patrolling back and forth. The sides of the wooden house also had two people. Although he could not see the back of the wooden house, he was positive that there would be people guarding at the back. As to whether there were still people patrolling outside, Fu Hengyi dared not be sure.

He estimated the time to probably just after the wee hours of the morning now. This group of people were on high alert and also desperate criminals. If they were to act rashly, it would be easy to cause danger to those few hostages. Moreover, he wanted to stall for time so as to buy time for the police.

Time passed by minute by minute. Although it was the end of September, the forest still had a lot of mosquitoes. Fu Hengyi and the other people were obviously the mosquitoes’ major source of food. Despite being bitten by the mosquitos all over, no one uttered a sound.

Suddenly, the cell phone which Fu Hengyi put in the pocket vibrated. He was mentally jolted and knew that the local police had arrived. It was their agreed signal to action.

He reached out and gently tapped thrice on the earpiece. Everyone’s eyes lit up, knowing that it was time for action. The blood in their bodies at this moment heated up after a long time.

“Three people in a group. First and second groups take care of the people left, right and back. The third group will coordinate with the police and be responsible for covering them. I will go and attract the attention of the two people in the front. The fourth group will be responsible for rescuing the people. Action.”

His voice had just dropped when Fu Hengyi took the lead to take action. Using the grass and trees as cover, he successfully approached the wooden house.

He leapt out like a flash of lightning. His eyes looked sharp. In an instant, he was at the front of the two people. With a flash of his hand, one of the people had already fallen on the ground, while the other person sensed that something was wrong. He opened his eyes and was about to open his mouth to call for people, but Fu Hengyi covered his mouth to stop him. He applied force with his hands and the person lost consciousness right away. His expression remained unchanged while he lightly put the person on the ground. He did not make a sound.

At the same time, the sound of a gunshot rang out in his ears. The police had made their move.

Fu Hengyi’s hands had no weapons. Naturally, he would not foolishly charge forward. While the group of criminals were engaged in a fight with the police, he bypassed the crossfire and slipped into the wooden house.

Inside the wooden house, there were three hostages, a woman, a child, as well as the rebellious teenager they were looking for.

The moment the trio saw Fu Hengyi, they began to struggle, especially the teenager, whose face was streaked with tears. He was really scared.

Fu Hengyi untied the rope binding on the three people and comforted, “The police are already here, don’t panic.”

At this point, Mu Liancheng also came in and picked up the child.

Suddenly, the woman’s pupils dilated, full of terror.

Mu Liancheng’s awareness of crisis, honed by the years, let him realize that something was wrong straightaway. He had just wanted to retreat but it was too late. He could only helplessly watch as the bullet flew toward himself.

Amid the imminent peril, Fu Hengyi took the lead in reacting and slammed hard into Mu Liancheng. It was accompanied by a woman’s scream ringing in his ears.

Silence was once again restored in the night……

**

In the hospital corridor, a tall man stood in front of a young woman and whispered an apology, “Missus, I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. If I had not been careless, the captain wouldn’t be injured. It was to save me that the captain…..”

The impressive seven-foot tall young man, who was supposed to be an indomitable presence, had reddened eyes, and looked agonized instead.

The woman was incredibly young and looked to be just over 20 years old. She was exceptionally beautiful, but frosty. It was Shen Qinglan.

Shen Qinglan’s gaze fell on the closed operating room door and she spoke with a cold voice, “No need for any words of apology. You are his comrade. It was his choice to save you. As for me, I respect his choice.”

The man, who was Mu Liancheng, was shocked and stared dumbfoundedly at Shen Qinglan. He had been prepared to be blamed by Shen Qinglan. After all, if it had not been for his carelessness, Fu Hengyi would not have been sent to the emergency room for saving him.

Shen Qinglan looked at Mu Liancheng and said, “You are all his brothers in life and death. I believe that if he were the one in a dangerous situation today, you all would give your lives to save him, right?”

She looked intently at Mu Liancheng, who answered without hesitation, “Of course.” In other words, he would do the same too.

The corners of Shen Qinglan’s lips slightly ticked up as she said, “Since that’s the case, then don’t say sorry anymore. I won’t blame any of you.”

Mu Liancheng looked at Shen Qinglan’s young face in a daze and did not speak for a long time.
