Chapter 50 - Trailing

Lin Fei picked up the dropped items from the ground. Aside from a few gold coins, there was also a Rare Barbarian Armor with good stats. It should be worth some gold coins at the Auction House.

They passed through a long and narrow tunnel and saw white fluorescent light flickering at the end. It was as if countless fireflies were flying about there. They radiance they refracted adorned the Boar Mine until it seemed like the land of dreams.

Xiao Ling could not help but feel shocked. “What’s that light at the end?” Could there be sunlight this deep in the mine?”

“It’s the phosphorite section up ahead,” explained Tian Kuang after glancing at the map.

Xiao Ling was hit with a sudden realization. Phosphorite was a Common rank 3 ore. Phosphorite could fluoresce with white light in dark places. It was nothing special; it was only white light. It was easily mistaken for sunlight, which was why Xiao Ling did not recognize it right away. However, Xiao Ling did not have the leisure to waste his time on such Common ores. They were not worth much in gold.

The phosphorite flickered like stars in the night sky. Lin Fei had scouted the area ahead of them. Xiao Ling and the others waited for Lin Fei’s feedback. They peered into the cave section and could hear faint battling sounds. There were also traces of magic elements in the air.

Xiao Ling and Tian Kuang exchanged bewildered looks. Did Lin Fei run into some trouble? Did she run into some other players who were here in the Boar Mine as well?

Tian Kuang mused for a long while. He was fidgeting. Although Tian Kuang usually behaved in a carefree manner and did not seem too concerned with Lin Fei, anyone with bright eyes could tell that they had a fantastic relationship.

“Let’s check it out,” said Tian Kuang. There was a hint of anxiousness in his tone. He did not seem like his usual steady self.

“Mm-hm,” Xiao Ling replied. He could sense Tian Kuang’s irritation.

A light blue figure was sprinting toward them. Tian Kuang saw Lin Fei’s nimble body and sighed with relief. His eyes were gentle when they looked at Lin Fei. When a man loved a woman, he would not talk about it all day. His love for her would usually be displayed in such moments of carelessness.

Lin Fei panted and looked at the others. “Why’s everybody standing up?” she asked in puzzlement.

“Sis, if you’d returned a moment later, Big Brother would’ve been charging forward to look for you,” said Tian Xin with a smile.

“What’s the situation there?” Tian Kuang quickly spoke with a clearly unnatural expression.

Lin Fei wore a faint smile. She looked at Tian Kuang, making him blush slightly. She said, “There are a few players from the Evil Alliance farming monsters there.”

Tian Kuang frowned. “Evil Alliance players? Why’re they here?” This was the heartland of Brakada. Very few Evil Alliance players could manage to travel all the way here without being noticed by Brakada’s players.

Lin Fei considered it before replying, “They have a map. They seem to be looking for something.”

Tian Fei walked closer, and asked, “Big Sister, how many of them are there? What are their levels?”

“There’s six of them. Their highest level is level 23. There are two level 21s, two 20s, and one 18. As for their classes, there are four spellcasters—two Wizards, who are a Poison Wizard and a Shadow Wizard, by the looks of it, a Necromancer, and an Elemental Mage—an Orc Warrior, and an Undead Rogue. The Shadow Wizard placed a Spying Eye on the ground. I dared not get too close. Also, there’s a golden skeleton beside that Necromancer,” Lin Fei added.

They did not sound weak. A golden skeleton was the evolved form of the skeleton soldier. They were much more powerful than ordinary skeletons. However, their summoning process was also more complicated. One would have to kill a golden skeleton first, obtain its skull, and use it as the medium to summon another golden skeleton, unlike with skeleton soldiers, which could be summoned anywhere. Only one golden skeleton could be summoned per skull.

Also, with a Shadow Wizard there, there was no chance for a Rogue to sneak up on them. This was because the Spying Eye would reveal any Rogues in Stealth mode within its range.

Tian Kuang considered the possibilities as he spoke, “I wonder what they’re looking for, for them to risk their lives, coming all the way here. I’m sure it’s nothing worthless. Are there any treasures in the Boar Mine?”

If he had his way, he would never let such a great opportunity slip. However, those players were of higher levels than them, and they had numbers on their side. It would be dangerous for them to take them on recklessly.

In such an encounter, Rogues were usually the ones to make the first strike. The Rogue would take care of the Poison Wizard first because a Poison Wizard played the same roles as Priests in the Evil Alliance. However, with a Shadow Wizard there, a Rogue would be hard-pressed to take out the Poison Wizard with Cheap Shot. They certainly would not be able to overpower them. Their only chance of victory was to wait for the Evil Alliance players to be boggled down by monsters before jumping on them.

“What do you all say?” Tian Kuang asked. Naturally, he could not decide such matters on his own. He would always ask the opinion of the others.

Tian Fei indifferently said, “I’m down for anything. However, I think that this is an opportunity. The enemy is in the open, and we have the advantage of surprise. We might be able to take them out. Merit points aside, we might even get some equipment.”

“I’m just curious about the things that they’re looking for,” said Tian Xin. His intentions were clear. He wanted to charge over, kill the enemies, and take the treasure.

Tian Kuang looked at Xiao Ling. “What do you think?”

“If we’re sneaking up on them, we should have a 70% chance of surprising them and a 50% chance of wiping them out. However, we’ll be in danger as well.” Xiao Ling did not state his own view clearly. However, his intentions were clear—they were the same as Tian Xin’s.

Tian Kuang looked toward Lin Fei, who shrugged.

“I’ll trail them. You guys follow behind me and look for an opening. Remember to keep your distance,” reminded Lin Fei.

“Mm-hm, alright. Be careful. It’s best to be 30 yards away from them. The lowest level Spying Eye has a range of 10 yards. If it’s at a higher level, it should be able to detect you at 20 yards or more. If thing’s aren’t right, run back here as quickly as you can,” said Tian Kuang.

When she heard Tian Kuang’s words of concern, her lips curled upward. There was a warm, happy expression on her face. “I’ll be off, then.” She activated her Stealth mode and went to trail their targets.

Xiao Ling and the others followed behind Lin Fei. They maintained a wide distance so that they would not be noticed by the Evil Alliance players.

They walked past a fluorescent section of the cave. They could see some shadows in the distance. They should be the Evil Alliance players.

Lin Fei stayed close to the cave’s walls and trailed them. The protrusions of the cave walls and uneven floor made it slightly difficult for her to move about. She moved slowly with her back hunched as she carefully moved closer to them.

Invisibility and counter-invisibility measures were crucial in the battles on Endace Continent. There were many classes capable of detecting an invisible Rogue. At the same time, Rogues had their own unique skills to avoid detection. This was a battle with a ferocity not inferior to actual combat.
