“How do you know that he’s been framed? Ji Xiaonian, how much do you really know about him? You’re too nosy!”

Impatient, Bai Yan averted his gaze from Ji Xiaonian and reprimanded her unsympathetically, “Dry your tears and get out of my car. Don’t ever come to me crying and begging for my help on matters concerning another man again.”

This behavior of hers never failed to put him out of sorts.

Everyone knew that Bai Yan lashed out his anger on people when in a bad mood to regain calmness in his heart.

Perhaps Ji Xiaonian’s provocation would worsen the situation. He might make some arrangements so that Lu Yifei would vanish into thin air by tomorrow.

“You’re ruthless and you’re no longer that Brother Yan who loves to make me smile. You’ve changed, Brother Yan, you really have.”

Ji Xiaonian was completely discouraged and the mercy in her eyes was replaced by hatred. She glared at the man next to her and forced the words out through gritted teeth. “Alright, I promise, to never appear in front of you in the future, and to never beg you for anything else.”

“Goodbye, Bai Yan.”

Filled with a sudden spurt of rage, she pushed the door open and left his car. She had wanted to run away at a fast pace but stopped abruptly to glance over her shoulder, landing her attention on Bai Yan once again.

Exasperated and furious, she shouted out of spite, “I’ve been blinded by love all these years, but don’t you worry, as I’ll never love you again from now on and you no longer hold a place in my heart. You’re a scoundrel through and through, I hate you!”

She yelled from the top of her lungs while suppressing the sorrow that was filling up her heart. Without waiting for the man to react, her hands flew to her mouth and she dashed away, weeping.

When the man finally shifted his gaze, the little girl’s silhouette had disappeared within sight.

I’ll never love you again from now on and you no longer hold a place in my heart. I hate you…

Every word and every syllable that came out from the little girl’s mouth were as sharp and hurtful as a sharp knife. They had come without warning and stabbed violently deep in his heart.

His heart throbbed with pain as if it was bleeding.

For the first time, Bai Yan experienced his heart being shredded into pieces.

He also learned that certain things in life could slip away from him quickly and quietly, and it would be too late by the time he realized.

Bai Yan was distressed.

In contrast to his words, he landed his attention on the rearview mirror to catch a glimpse of the little girl’s receding figure, but she was already long gone.

“…”

He retrieved his gaze and leaned helplessly into the seat. The corners of his lips curled into a ridiculing bitter smile.

Bai Yan thought his feelings were ridiculous. Why was he sitting here all alone, feeling disheartened because of a silly girl?

He took in a deep breath and tried really hard to dismiss the low spirit that invaded his mind and body. In the end, as if not affected by what happened with Ji Xiaonian, he reignited the engine and drove towards his company.

After Ji Xiaonian dashed back to the university, she tried calling Lu Yifei numerous times but to no avail. Perhaps he had gone somewhere quiet and was all alone, feeling sorry for himself.

At that moment she thought of asking around to find out if the university had decided to punish Lu Yifei. If worse comes to worst, she could force her Elder Brother to assist because she believed her brother was not as merciless as Bai Yan.

Unfortunately, she bumped into Fang Miaoling on the way to the Multipurpose Center. Ji Xiaonian walked ahead as she really did not feel like making small talk with the other woman.

However, that woman who was acting rather strangely snorted with contempt. “It’s sickening. I heard that there’s a gay among us in the university and he’s one of the popular, handsome guys. Apparently, he was egged early this morning at the university avenue.”

Ji Xiaonian really wanted to ignore her, but she was furious at the way Fang Miaoling described her friend.

Enraged, she turned around and glared at the other person. “Why does his sexuality concern you so much? So what if he’s gay? It’s really common even in other countries and is that sickening to you too?”

Fang Miaoling met Ji Xiaonian’s gaze with a smile. “Eh, are you angry? I’m not even talking about you. Besides, what’s your relationship with that gay man? You seem really bothered about this.”

“Fang Miaoling, mind your words. My patience has its limits,” Ji Xiaonian said through gritted teeth.

As a result of that fight she had with Bai Yan earlier, her current mental condition resembled an active volcano that was about to erupt. She might strangle the woman to death if the latter kept provoking her and testing her patience.

“What are you going to do? Are you going to bite me again? Or will you strike me this time? You know, Big Brother Bai applied ice cubes on my face personally after I got slapped by you the last time. Besides, he reminded me to get a rabies vaccine at the infirmary after seeing you bite my hand earlier.”

“You…”

Ji Xiaonian was completely irritated. She mustered her strength and jumped at the girl without thinking straight. She pulled at Fang Miaoling’s hair and started throwing punches at her.

Fang Miaoling did not fight back when struck. It appeared she was intentionally trying to provoke the other person to hit her more.

Coincidentally, both of their dorm mates walked past and witnessed Ji Xiaonian hitting the other girl.

Immediately, they ran forward to stop her. “Ji Xiaonian, how can you hit her? What did Fang Miaoling do to deserve this?” they reprimanded.

By now, Fang Miaoling’s dirty face was covered with her messy hair. Her face was marked with red handprints, and the corner of her lip was bleeding.

“It’s none of your business.” Breathless with anger, Ji Xiaonian stood up and turned around. Suddenly, she noticed the head counselor standing behind her, looking solemn and serious.

The head counselor that was fuming with rage yelled at Ji Xiaonian, “I finally caught you red-handed, no one can help you this time. Come to my office right now, you’re really getting out of sorts.”

Ji Xiaonian looked over her shoulder to find Fang Miaoling grinning smugly. Finally, she understood that it was a set up.

The latter must have known that Tang Caiqi and Xiao Xiao, as well as the head counselor, were going to pass by here hence she provoked Ji Xiaonian on purpose.

Ji Xiaonian was mad that her failure to control her explosive temper made Fang Miaoling’s scheme a great success. To make matters worse, not only had she not rescued Lu Yifei out of the fire, but even she had fallen into a burning pit.

When they arrived at the head counselor’s office, she stood there like a delinquent teenage girl and accepted the scolding quietly.

Upon noticing her indifference towards the reproach, the head counselor flew off the handle and shouted, “Ji Xiaonian, call your parents immediately and ask them to come over or I’ll punish you with a major demerit.”

Ji Xiaonian replied nonchalantly, “My Elder Brother is out of the country and he probably wouldn’t return with such short notice.”

“Stop it with the nonsense. If that’s true, you should stand still on the rostrum as a punishment until he makes a presence.”

It was not a big deal to her as she had done it before. However, before she took her leave, she could not resist but raised a question at the head counselor. “Oh, um, how will the counseling unit deal with Lu Yifei?”

“Are you a close friend of Lu Yifei? Do you know what’s going on with him?” The head counselor replied with another question.

Ji Xiaonian raised her eyebrows and nodded in a pensive mood. “Of course, he’s been framed so you shouldn’t condemn him indiscriminately. Otherwise, the students might protest.”

The head counselor snorted but did not provide a definite answer. “Hurry up and stand still over there. You can only leave when your elder brother arrives.”

Ji Xiaonian pouted and thought otherwise.
