Chapter 37:Ascension

"So this proves it, he really does have no control over this power of his." said Gaia. She, as well as Rawley and the omni-god, were watching from afar as James floated with his legs crossed, eyes closed, and his arms either side of him as if he was holding something in each. They were in an arena normally used for friendly duels and other not so friendly fights between gods and goddesses but it wasn't used as much so it was perfect for them. Flickers of blue fire appeared around him as he meditated and tried to manifest a flame in each hand. So far, it had proved worthless and all the effort of the past two months had gone to waste. While in the god realm, they had supplied him with some new clothes so he wouldn't stand out and be recognised by Okubi's follower. James now donned a long white cloak, a green shirt underneath, black shorts that stopped half way down his calves, and then James chose a pair of black, ankle high boots.

"How does this disguise work again? He clearly doesn't have any special traits to make him a god so how does a change of clothes make him one?" asked Rawley.

"There are so many gods and goddesses in this infinite realm that even I don't know about. It wouldn't surprise anyone if a new one turned up out of the blue. For now, we'll refer to him as ... I don't know, the god of blue fire?" suggested the omni-god. Rawley face palmed and began walking over to James.

"That's enough for now, lets take a break!" called Rawley. James opened his eyes and dropped to the ground.

"What's the matter? That was quite a short meditation session, especially for you." said James. Gaia joined the two of them and sighed.

"You're doing all the right things, but they don't seem to be working. Maybe there's something causing you to hold back or something you need to use your full potential?" pondered Gaia. James froze and remembered glimpses of his rampage and massacre on the government building and how it all happened while he had his sword. But he was too dangerous to wield it. Cynthinia should destroy it or put somewhere where no one could find it; not even the omni-god. He snapped out of it and sat down on the floor.

"I can't think of anything. Nearly every time I've used my power, my memories seem to disappear and I fail to remember anything from the fight." said James.

"Argh! Where's Lucifer?! He's the original blue flames user so why isn't he here helping us?" complained Rawley. She then walked off in anger and Gaia followed her to calm her down leaving James and the omni-god alone.

"I know you're lying. The celestial weapon of fire is what caused you to lose control before and it's the only thing that will allow you to use one hundred percent of your power. You know this yet you act as if it doesn't exist." said the omni-god. James looked away.

"Having these abilities, it's everything I could have dreamed of. But the price of them is just too much. Just the thought of killing someone, innocent or not, I just ... can't. And I can't even stop myself from doing so. Maybe I'm doing more bad than good with them?" said James. The omni-god changed form into a white mouse and ran up onto James' shoulder.

"If you really think that, then fight me. Push yourself to your limit and fight me with everything you've got and more. If you can keep in control then obviously you're meant to have these abilities ... but if not then you'll commit the crime of attacking a god with the intent of hurt and you'll have to spend another seven months here. By then, Okubi would have most certainly have killed your friends and won. I believe in you." said the omni-god. They jumped off of James' shoulder and changed form into an almost perfect copy of Cynthinia.

"Lets begin shall we?" asked the omni-god.

James launched at they almost instantly and punched them in the face. The omni-god went flying backwards and James followed after with his fist raised. James caught up and punched but a flicker of blue fire caused his to hesitate. That was all the omni-god needed to be able to slam a foot into the ground and lean back. This suddenly slowed them down and, as James shot past overhead, grab James' leg. James was yanked back and slammed into the ground which forced the air our of his body. The omni-god clicked and small orbs of white energy the size of golf balls began appearing in random places in the arena. James sat up in pain and stopped just before his face came in contact with one of the orbs.

"Be careful where you stand, they may be small but they pack quite the punch." said the omni-god. James slowly rose and narrowly avoided touching any orb until he was just about standing upright. The omni-god began to quietly chuckle to themselves.

"What's so funny?!" demanded James. The omni-god raised their arm and began pointing at an orb near James.

"Did you really think I was going to hold back THAT much?" asked the omni-god. They flicked their finger to James and the orb slammed into his side before blowing up; sending James flying into another and another. James was slung back and forth between orbs while the omni-god laughed and created new orbs to make an endless cycle.

'If you send out a pulse of energy you can blow them all up.' said the voices in James' head. 'But if you use your blue fire you'll just lose control again and then your friends will be dead! What if he tried propelling himself out of the orb field? No, they'll just move the whole field along with him. This hurts so bad and their laughing just makes you what to ... KILL THEM, right James? NO! He's not killing anyone!' James was still being launched from orb to orb but the omni-god was getting bored. 'This isn't working. If he won't uses his flames against this person, then I'll try someone else. But who? Oh, I know.' thought the omni-god. They changed form into a copy of the general and clicked. The orbs disappeared and James fell to the ground on his front.

"You failed to protect him. You're failing to protect them now. You're going to fail to protect all of them. Fight back James. Use this amazing power inside of you and fight back!" said the omni-god. James lost it and his body burst into fire ... the left side of the fire was red and the right side of the fire was blue. James stood up and started screaming in pain and the two sides of the fire lashed at each other with James caught between them.

"His body is ... rejecting the blue fire?!" said the omni-god in amazement.

"Will you two," shouted James through the pain, "just sort it out all ready!" An orb of each colour appeared in each of James' hands and he slammed them together. Sparks flew as the two orbs repelled each other but James kept pushing and pushing. Soon, the orbs began to merge slightly but the fire grew and the toll on James' body grew to massive levels.

"James, stop! You'll tear your body apart!" yelled the omni-god. James didn't listen. He swung his arms back and brought them down either side of the two orbs pushing them together into one orb of red, blue, and purple. The fire dissipated and James fell to his knees. The omni-god ran over.

Catching them off guard, James swung a leg around tripping the omni-god up before grabbing their shirt and slamming them into the ground. James raised his fist and it ignited in a blue flame.

"I think I win this fight. Don't you?" asked James. The omni-god faded into nothing in James' hand.

"I think we can still continue?" said the omni-god.
