Chapter 93 - Make Amends

Chen Yi stood frozen at her spot for some time, quite taken aback at what her hubby had done. Li Luxian, on the other hand, acting totally normal as if there was nothing wrong with simply grazing off something from Chen Yi's face and then licking it off.

She gulped silently.

The way the word...delicious...rolled out of his tongue, it was as if he was not talking about the batter. Something or rather, someone else.

Thinking about that, a shudder ran down Chen Yi's spine, traveling slowly making her skin tingle while finally settling down at her core.

"We should get ourselves to the table. Don't want to get my little wife's meticulous cooking taste unsavory?" Li Luxian sultry voice brought Chen Yi out of the trance.

"Right!" Thinking he had a point, and partly to distract herself from the not-so-innocent thoughts whirling around her mind, she immediately grabbed a chair out and threw her butt over it, picking up the forks and ready to dine.

"Very eager, aren't you?" Li Luxian chuckled before pulling a chair beside Chen Yi and taking a seat, all the while maintaining those ingrained manners in his bearing that made him appear like a noble, a royal-blood from an ancient era.

"Go on, you first." Chen Yi urged; her previous excitement, that had been blown away by Li Luxian's teasing a few seconds ago, reemerging at the sight of him ready to try out her dishes.

"If you say," Li Luxian could not comprehend why was so she so excited at the idea of his trying her cooking. She didn't strike him as a traditional wife who believed that a 'man's way to the heart is through his stomach' or asserted that being good at cooking was a woman's core responsibility and greatest virtue.

Li Luxuan carelessly placed a piece of soft flesh in his mouth. To his surprise, it was so flavorsome that it blew away his senses for a few seconds. The texture was perfect; soft and melting into his mouth in an instant, dissolving into a rich flavor. Li Luxian was pleasantly surprised and quite lost in the taste when a voice inquired demurely. "How is it?"

Li Luxian frowned at her. Why was she sounding so timid? Wasn't she pretty confident and full of praises for herself, well, not a few seconds ago? The corner of his lips revealed traces of a smile. "Delicious."

However, at the compliment that she previously so passionately sought after, his wife did not appear to be as happy as he had expected her to be. Finding the situation unusual, Li Luxian inquired. "What's wrong?"

Chen Yi opened her mouth then closed it as if she was unsure how to voice it out in an intelligible way. "When you said 'Delicious' a moment ago, it was not like last time." Finally arriving at the inference after whatever internal strife she had to process, Chen Yi said leaving Li Luxian speechless.

His silence was, of course, followed by a heartfelt laugh on which Chen Yi could not quite right place a finger on as to what it was hinting at, leaving her perplexed.

"My dear wife," With his smile gaining the richness of flavor, he asked. "What was it that you find different?"

That question put Chen Yi in a difficult spot. "The 'Delicious' you said at that time was..." Profound? Heartfelt? Deep? Despite thinking hard, Chen Yi could not choose the accurate word.

"Yes, it was?," urged Li Luxian although he had already guessed what she might have wanted to say from her expressive eyes.

"Nevermind," Chen Yi attempted to dismiss the question averting her eyes from his penetrative gaze. She quickly put a bit of her masterpiece into her mouth immediately arriving at the opinion that it was far superior to anything being served on those five-star hotels.

Then why would that unreasonable man find that batter nicer than her meticulous cooking? Nevermind. This 'Li' family member is always ridiculous. She must no expect something realistic from them.

"Look at me," Li Luxian husky voice sounded quite near her. When Chen Yi moved her eyes up, she almost jumped back at how close he had shifted to her; his arms reached out and went over her chair as he inclined even closer giving her very little space to herself.

With a spoon still in her mouth, Chen Yi blinked at him. "You did well. I could not have expected this considering your temperament but since my wife is so good at cooking, it is definitely a cherry on top of the cake."

Although Chen Yi's resentment dissipated, at the same, she picked up on his words. Taking the spoon out of her mouth, she angrily said. "What do you mean you could not have expected this? What's wrong with my temperament?" She was incensed. "Alright, I admit that God had been very generous when it came to your expertise but that does not mean I am any lesser!"

"Where did that come from?" Li Luxian titled his head; his eyes gleaming in pure amusement.

Chen Yi realized that she might have overreacted. "Nowhere." At Li Luxian narrowing eyes, she quickly adjusted her tone and said in a serious tone. "Sit back and eat quietly. Where are your manners?"

"And if I don't? I had been thinking about what we did this morning." The subtle smile at the side of his lips became increasingly intense as the distance between them reduced.

Now, now...where the hell did that come from? Chen Yi's heart thumped loudly.

No! Not that! Anything but that!

At the point where she wanted to enjoy her food, why must he bring up that embarrassing incident?!

Despite Chen Yi's face revealing vibrant embarrassment, Li Luxian had no plans to let her off. "You had me left quite distraught all the time in my office. Don't you think you should make amend for that?"

"W-What does that had to do with me?" She shrunk in her chair shifting away from that man.

"Well," Li Luxian brought his hand to her face. The back of his hands rested at her cheek. His eyes did not look into her eyes any further but moved downwards, to her lips. "You left me after kissing me on the cheek.. Before I could catch you and punish you, you had already sprinted away. My little wife, have you forgotten? We had come to an understanding that lovers shouldn't be kissing on the cheek?"
