171 The Conference I : The Call

The green district has always been a gathering place for vampires, so it made sense if most, if not all vampire activities are carried out there. But not today. The coven conference is carried out within a specially allocated place in the mines itself.

Apparently during the early days of imprisonment; the warden previously in charge of the pit hated vampires to the core. But stopping a tradition like this would have the recently defeated race of blood suckers volatile and a riot he could not afford to have imminent.

So in the interest of peace he had allocated a spot to the vampires in the mines and dubbed it the ancestral dumping grounds of vampiric filth. Of course the vampires gave it a better name. It was place where they could keep the traditions alive and indulge in their lust for violence and solitude. They called it, the hollow basin.

There was a massive crater to the north of the mineral mountain, after thousands of years of work; it has been fashioned into an arena that has place host to the coven conference since then. That was our destination today, and since the conference was tomorrow, and it took unsealed vampires anything from three to two days to get there, we decided to get there early.

I was going with the Envoys, with exclusion of Gus. His training was apparently at a rather crucial stage, so he has not been able to get away from the Nexus bar for the past two days.

Either way I think k it was good that he has found a place for himself, and he was getting stronger for it. I hoped when I got back, I'll be bringing him back some good news. He deserved that much at least.

Among the Envoys going with me were Xaseah, Kodak, Teluna, Black and White, and the remaining ten coming along for moral support. Of course also following were hundreds of the vampires who lived around the palace.

The conference was not for everybody, so there weren't a lot of them. Besides work was still ongoing back home and it would not be wise to leave it completely undefended, so it was just a small population that was going with us.

Asare, Magellan, Malek and Nisi were actually staying back. To be honest the conference was not that important to our future, as we could make do without it. However this was an integral part in uniting the entire pit. I have to be seen and I have to be known to achieve anything tangible and long lasting.

I had to put myself out there and impress upon the vampires, showing them the strength that can keep them safe and get them the freedom they so desperately wanted. Besides a conflict was coming and I needed more vampires on board with my ship than off of it.

We left as soon as I was finished with my impromptu meeting/warning with Malek and Farina. And since Farina was coming along, I didn't feel so alone and helpless against the other elders. But before that, I need to see how much stronger I've become.

I had too many skills at my disposal. But due to how numerous they are, I hardly get to use all of them, which makes some of them really weak.

I needed more practice with all of my skills, and I had a feeling that the upcoming conflict would give me a chance an avenue to display and strengthen my skills beyond my expectations. I just had to be ready to use them all.

We made our way to the green district since the actual entrance to the pit was actually located at its outskirts. Along the way we ran into other vampires who were also leaving for the conference. that was a lot of vampires, even more than I had as subjects.

I couldn't count how many they were, and they were all staring. It wouldn't be too farfetched to say that the reason why they were all going to the conference this time was because of me.

Their gazes made me nervous and I couldn't help but to fidget as we moved in to the main tunnel that would lead to the original hub, right at the place where all of the caves systematically changed their positions at random moments in random sequences. But the tunnel leading to the hub was not just a simple of straight forward tunnel, for one it led to three other prisons.

One was the prison for the Naga, however the Naga are not the only race imprisoned there as it was a prison that fell under a racial category called Serpentis. Which mean it was a prison for snake like races.

The next prison is known as the aviary, and it was home to a race of beings that fell to the council of light not more than a hundred years after the fall of the vampire race.

It was home to the Nephilim. The winged half human children, of fallen angels and angels. True masters of a specific category of light magic called the holy element. Of course quite a few of them dealt with the unholy part of magic.

But they have been the natural enemies for countless numbers of years due to the fact that mastery of their magic had the same effect on vampires as silver and sunlight.

But I thought it was quite ironic; two natural enemies are actually neighbors in a prison, put there by the same person. Fate really had ways with which it fucked with people.

We came up to the intersection that led to the other prisons when I felt a tug of energy from deep within my soul. It was a feeling so powerful that it made me stumble as I broke out into a cold sweat. My feet halted in its movement and just like a compass me head turned towards the direction of the final prison.

Even from here I could see the thick and heavy gate that barred entrance to that part of the dancing caves of Noxis Nyx. According to rumors and what I've been told by Asare; that prison was home to dragons, the very last of their kind.

It was unknown whether they were also put there by humans, or if it was something else. All we know was that it was called the Den, and only a select few are allowed to go through those gates and see what lies beyond.

I know that my heart recently became the heart of a living being again, and fairly recently too, but what I was feeling right now was something I've never experienced before, not before or after I became a vampire.

Something or someone was tugging at my heart, and the attraction I was feeling was too strong to ignore. And that was when I heard a voice, it was ancient, archaic and rumbling with power, even what he was saying was just a whisper.

"I see you my King, I hear you, and I can feel you. Don't take too long, this dragon waits for you, hurry!"

"What!"

I exclaimed in surprise and took a few steps back, suddenly free from the powerful feeling that had gripped my heart. The sweat on my body seemed to rapidly evaporate as the world fade in and out of focus. I felt Xaseah grab my shoulders in worry, her eyes narrowed together in vigilance. I gave a smile and said to her.

"Don't worry; I just thought I heard someone call me. Come on, let's go."

She gave a rather stiff nod, which showed me she didn't believe a word of what I just said and that something was really going on, however she knew if it was really important I would tell her later, because she knew I didn't keep things from her and Asha, not unless it was necessary.

As we made our way through the tunnel, I couldn't help but look back at the intersection and the gate that led to the den and to dragons with a longing expression on my face. Someone was calling me, and I really wanted to know who.

THE BLUE DISTRICT

THE PALACE

ASHA LEONA YSMIR COR

Pregnancy was a really hard thing to go through. I had to deal with the increased appetite, the pains from my children rapidly growing, to my increase hormones and violent mood swings.

Nefisat has had to fix a section of the palace wall almost fifteen times due to how often I turn that section into nothing more than rubble. It was a stressful experience, but I would be lying if I said I didn't love every moment of it.

I couldn't wait to hold them both in my hands, to show them a better love than my parents ever showed me. And to do this together with Kael and Xaseah, I just knew that we would be happy, and that once they're born, the world would seem brighter and a million times more colorful.

Sometimes I felt as if they were both talking to me, though it's quite unfortunate that conversation has to be initiated by their kicks, and erratic growth and movements. But none the less I loved it, this feeling was incomparable.

Being responsible for bringing another life into the world was an honor beyond all measure, and I'm happy I get to experience it. I moved to the window and looked out at the city that was beginning to take shape, I've seen the blue prints and I knew Malek wanted to build a city with the palace in the middle, but he was only focusing on one side at the moment.

But I knew how glorious it would be, especially since the city itself would hold a big secret, a secret that Malek hoped to expose to Kael on the day he was officially going to unveil the city.

The very thought of what we could achieve, and the future we could build for our children made me wish the day would come sooner. Then all of a sudden Gus barged into my room with his mother in tow.

He looked so haggard and his black hair stuck to his face in a rather haphazard manner. He was breathing deeply, and his mouth and throat kept moving as if he was trying to make a sound.

But nothing came out; I think he was so worried he had actually forgotten he couldn't talk. Then I heard his voice in my mind, clear as day and frantic as the seas during a storm.

[Where is master Kael?]

"Sorry Gus, but you missed him by about two hours. He's already on his way to the conference. What's wrong" I asked him with a confused look on my face.

[Lady Asha.......we're under attack!]
