179 Nightfall 4

Name:Immoral System Author:FallenBlue
The half-host was quite frustrated, so he ordered the remaining man to carry his companion away, to a deserted place, preferably a faraway mountain or forest. Once there, he was to cut off his and One's tongues too, apart from his own hands.

To what would happen to them after, Chris didn't plan to know. They would probably still be alive, or at least, he hoped they would stay alive since he didn't want his actions to really cause their deaths. Anyway, they were more elite than ten normal men combined. They should be fine even without a limb or three. Human potential too was never to be underestimated, so he expected them to find a way to carry on living despite the condition they would be in.

Chris watched as the second man absentmindedly half-dragged, half-carried his companion outside the unit. It was past midnight, lessening the chances of them running into any witnesses if they took the stairs. They would surely arrive at a destination without fail. And then after that, the commands would take place.

What more does his mischievous system want?

Ignoring it, Chris strode towards the shivering lady who couldn't stop crying at one corner of her own bed. His free hand went to his mask, to be precise, to his forehead. For some reason, that part just abruptly began to throb and hurt. It rendered him wondering whether the headaches and dizziness was an aftereffect of the skill. This never happened before though. Weird.

'... Ugh, must be the lack of sleep for a fairly long time.'

On the other hand, in the woman's perspective, the last masked man standing was emotionlessly looking down to the weak and sobbing mess, her. Despite knowing that he saved her just now from the other two people who had wicked intent against her, she still couldn't help trembling and hugging herself as she tried to bury her whole person on the adjacent wall.

'N-now what will happen? Will this man also kill me?'

It was her first contact with people who wanted to silence her. Before there were also individuals who made attempts to her life, but they couldn't really go near her due to the two extremely capable bodyguards her deceased grandfather had given her.

'I should not have let them go... even if they just have gotten married.' This selfish thought stayed in her mind for so long due to her fears and insecurities.

'Think! I, I don't want to die yet!'

She didn't do anything yet to deserve an early death! At most, her schemes made her half-sister's people jailed or bankrupted. But all she did was exposed what should be exposed. In actual, she had helped out in making this world a bit cleaner and more breathable. In which part of it was she wrong?

For quite a while, her mind blanked out.

But when she saw the cold looking sharp blade in the left hand of the man slightly shimmering under the moon's refracted rays, sanity suddenly returned to her. It was as if she was in some sort of epiphany said to be only possible to have when facing death. Miraculously, her brain seemed way clearer than before, clearer than it had ever been in her twenty-three years of life!

"I..." She stopped crying. After raising her head, Alessa's lips parted to make way for her slightly wet and shaky voice. "I, I'm still useful!"

"If it's about the money, I, I can triple... No, I can even raise the amount by five or ten times!"

The steps continued and the sounds produced by them were like hammers beating on her chest. The woman didn't know that the left brow of the guy taking big strides to her direction rose up due to her words.

"If, if money can't..." She tried more to think of what to say to convince the person. "I'm sure... Your employer will still want me alive! Either to torture or just for the plain sake of ratting out my helpers!"

Alessa said this with survival in mind. But it was also the truth since that woman had once tried to probe from her, in one of the parties hosted by the Goldwins, who was the super hacker helping her tide most of her plights before.

Of course, she had no plans to speak even a word about Chris. It was mere lip service to pique the hitman's attention or make him think twice from killing her.

Chris saw through her plans from her eyes. And this was the only reason why he didn't become disappointed at her yet. To be honest, his heart dropped a little when the words came out of her lips.

If he was truly a hostile enemy, and she suggested that she might tell him who her helpers were, he would have been ecstatic or hesitate and report the information to his boss. But he was not. He was her acquaintance. The person she even termed as her helper.

While suppressing the impulse the take off the mask to rub his throbbing forehead, he replied. '... No. We've been acquaintance for three years. I will be a fool if I can't guess her stance. Probably buying time so that 'I' can discover the anomalies here.'

When Alessa saw that the masked man was still going to her with a knife in hand, even though there was no blood in it, the scene still looked so frightening for her. It made her stay still in her position, wide-eyed, with the tears coming out of her eyes.

'Survival... Survival!' Her eyes busily swam around, settling one time on the broken phone one of the two intruders earlier had sliced in half.

'If I survive even half a day, Chris might know that I suddenly went missing!' she thought, still not intending to give up her life.

Perhaps it was out of desperation that she finally noticed something which could help delay her death for a few more seconds or minutes.

"M-mister! Wait! Don't kill me yet!"

'This girl went nuts.' Chris thought, amused. But the young man had to pull down the edges of his lips when the waves of dizziness attacking turned vicious and sharp. His steps almost faltered on that moment since he was already seeing three, sometimes, four or five Alessa talking at the same time to him.

'98, what's suddenly happening... to me?'

The woman's hysterical yet pleading voice came first before the system.

"D-don't kill me!"

"I, I am willing to, to treat your neck wound!"

"...What?" he confusedly blurted out.
