138 Meeting the Ex-Fiance 2

Name:I'm Guilty, My Beauty Author:JoanB
Diane stood there in complete silence, filled with mixed emotions. She wanted to shout and vent out her anger but the Dennis she saw was drunk and pitiable. His eyes were red and he reeked with alcohol. His clothes were unbearably dirty, full of black stains. Dried limestone pasted on his arms and pants.

But what cut her from bursting was the sadness in his face. She knew she was angry with this guy and even hated him to the core but watching him in this state made her feel sorry.

Then Dennis started to cry.

Diane couldn't bear watching him like this and was moved. She even felt comforting him. 'No, this is wrong.' She turned away and breathed deep, controlling her emotions.

When Dennis saw her and she remained quiet, he felt nothing less than shame and torment looking at her pretty face. This was the woman he loved but he was also the reason she suffered. Pain swallowed him and he cried. This unforeseen meeting was a torture to him.

While John was on his way, he heard a male voice calling Diane through his earphone and sped up the car.

"Diane?" John's voice echoed in her ear.

That voice compelled her to run to John and seek his comfort. Forgetting the communication was through her earrings, she instinctively replied, "John?" Her voice trembling.

"I'm coming to get you," said John.

"Don't come. Just tell me where you are." Her eyes roamed the area, looking for him.

Dennis heard her talking, looked around and saw no one. "Diane? Who are you talking to? Who is John?"

Diane realized her mistake and instantly picked her phone from her pocket and placed it on her ear. "John? Hello."

"Look straight. I'm near you," said John.

Diane did and saw his car six meters away, running in her direction. She walked fast, wanting to get away soon.

"Wait! Diane, I'm sorry."

Diane halted and was about to ask why he was sorry, but chose to clamp her lips. She told herself not to lengthen their encounter. She already had John and that what matters most. "No need to talk. Go home, you're drunk," she said kindly.

"I don't easily get drunk and you know that."

She glanced back at him and paused. "I need to go." She continued walking towards her destination.

John stopped the car at her side and thought of disembarking but Leonard spoke in his earphone. "Stay where you are. Gallante might be watching the scene. I don't want him to see you."

"I'm already here and she needs me," his face hardened.

"Wait," Leonard said heavily.

She was on the point of opening the car door when Dennis continued talking.

"It wasn't what you think."

His choices of words triggered her. "You betrayed me. It was clear as day."

Dennis clenched his fist and punched the trunk of the tree.

And then he looked at her, begging. He wiped dry his face and moved his attention toward the warehouse. "I don't know why you're here but please, leave and don't come back. Don't dig out the past. Let the buried be remained buried… for your sake," he said without looking at her. Then, he walked toward the warehouse.

Diane wished to ask more but was tongue-tied. She was at a loss.

John got off the car and quickly walked toward the lethargic Diane, then seated her in.

Distance from them, Richard and Jenna sat in a van silently. They had been there ahead of John because they were nearer to the place. They had been watching the whole drama unfolding until the curtain call. They also heard the whole conversation because John allowed Leonard to open the connection from Diane's earrings to the agency's frequency.

It was not only Diane that was at a loss with Dennis' words, but all of them were also. What was he implying?

Somehow, there was one person inside the warehouse who completely understood what Dennis meant. This man was Mr. Gallante, who saw Dennis talking to Diane through the hidden cameras within the vicinity.
