I sat there looking at the program that popped up as a touchable holographic image. I looked at my status as well as my lack of points and became frustrated.

[ I am so broke! ]

I thought about how I could best use my points to be able to help kibbles and decided to put two points into his strength so he could at least hurt something if anything was hurting him. I was honestly very worried since he wasn't used to his human form.

I watched as new prompts were flashed on the screen as I thought about the upgrades. Even though I knew that where ever he was currently, at least he was now a bit safer, it still made my heart bleed watching all my points disappear into thin air once again.

[ I wish I would get more missions! ]

As I played around with the holo app trying to figure out what to do, I heard a slight rustle in the bushes. Instantly I looked over and watched quietly hoping not to attract what was unseen.

Rustle!

Rustle!

The fine hairs had risen up on my back, I stood up and looked around for anything to use as a weapon to defend myself.

Rustle!

Rustle!

Woosh!

Something that had moved quicker than lightning brushed past me followed by some slurping noises. I slowly turned my head to look at the beast that was so fast it could have killed me without a fight.

It was very small in size, had green scales, little purple beady eyes and rows of razor-sharp teeth, what surprised me is that it looked a little like a pocket-sized velociraptor with leather scaled wings.

It looked over at me, then I at it. We were locked in a Mexican standoff as it drank. Its little beady eyes were like a goat's so they were a little unsettling.

I stood up slowly, simultaneously grabbing a stick off the floor then trying my best to walk away while still facing it.

Whoosh!

I watched as the little spirit beast charged towards me in a zig-zag pattern.

I flew back a little with the force of the attack if I could even call it that while I landed square on my butt.

Ouch!

It began to start biting my hair as it quickly scampered up onto the top of my head.

[ Oww! Oww Oww! You little!!! ]

I thought of every way to swat it off my head, if I pulled, it would dig its little claws into my neck from its feet, if I pushed, it would bite my nose... If I tried to grab it with both hands, it would start nipping at my hands.

After five minutes of struggling I couldn't seem to remove the little beady-eyed dragon creature off me. The scaly little rat had moved around a few times before finding itself a comfortable spot, lounging on my head like a seat much to my discontent.

" Listen here you little…ahh forget it! " I said to the beast.

I couldn't be bothered to struggle anymore. I had already been covered in scratches from the plunge in the river earlier and now my face was burning from being treated like a scratching post for cats.

I was furious but extremely tired.

I stood up using the long stick to steady myself and started to walk along the river bank looking for Kibbles.

I searched both upstream from where I was as well as downstream. I couldn't find even a small trace of him.

Finally, there was some progress after noticing a little piece of black material on a twig, as well as some disturbed foliage. I may not know much about survival but this clue was enough to put a smile on my face.

At least there wasn't any major spots of blood.

I sighed in relief.

Walking towards the path that I felt Kibbles had taken, I tried my best to watch the ground as well as my surroundings.

[ I hope there are no spiders or snakes! ]

I had never been a fan of scaly things, knowing that there was a little beast on my head was making me uncomfortable.

[ Hey maybe this thing could act like a sniffer dog? ]

I searched into my chest pocket and pulled out the small piece of fabric from Kibbles clothing and held it up near my forehead.

I could feel a little set of nostrils sniffing at it before it swiped the material up with its little hands. I tried to pull the fabric back from the annoyance on my head but it was too late…

It had actually eaten the cloth.

It even burped afterwards as if it was the most delicious thing it had ever eaten. I wasn't surprised that it wasn't some magical super finder beast… but eating the cloth was well out of my expectations.

[ I hope you choke you little thing! ]

All of the sudden off into the distance I heard a cry and it sounded human.

" MEOWSTTTERRRR HEEELLLLLPPPPP!" It bellowed from a little while away.

[ KIBBLES!? ]

The little annoying lizard and I picked up the pace, still with the stick in my hand I charged forward cutting through trees as fast as I could. Hearing the desperate cry of Kibbles, I knew something was terribly wrong.

Faster and faster I ran through the undergrowth of the forest, dodging massive rocks and jumping over fallen tree logs.

My wet clothing brushed against my skin, chafing it but I did my best to ignore it.

When I had finally gotten to the spot where Kibbles was calling me from, the sight I saw in front of me made my jaw clench.

Kibbles was up in a tree holding on to it for dear life while several wolves were at the bottom growling at him.

I didn't call out to Kibbles, so as to not draw their attention and took a deep breath.

[ Remember the training from Ren ]

I calmed my nerves by saying "sharp as a sword" in my head more times then I could count and steadied my breaths.

[ This is all or nothing! ]

I looked around me and found what looked like a small sharp rock, I stashed it into my pocket before finding a few more and hid them too.

I took a strong step forward with the lizard still on my head gripping my hairs tighter.

Charging at the first wolf with nothing but a stick and a few rocks I dived into battle. Swinging the stick hard I managed to wound the one furthest away from Kibbles.

It yelped a little before finally, the other wolves noticed me.

" MEOWSTER YOU CAME!!! " Kibbles called still clinging on to the tree.

It looked like I had found him just in time as the system's voice rung through my head.
