Chapter 29: A Moment Of Bravery And Fear

As soon as it opened its jaws, it spat out a grey-colored liquid towards Silvi, who was standing closest to it.

Silvi dodged in panic while using her daggers to shield herself. However, it was not that effective in protecting herself from the Dreadling's spit completely.

"AAHH!!" Silvi cried out in horror and pain as some of that ominous-looking grey liquid fell on her right arm because she could not dodge in time.

A sizzling sound came from her skin where the grey liquid had fallen. And soon, her skin turned red and began to tear while a pale yellow liquid began to ooze out from the festered wound.

Tears began to drip from Silvi's eyes as she painfully cried while stumbling backward, "AHHHH!! IT HURTS!! It's burning my skin!!!"

The dagger she was holding in her right hand fell because of the severe wound on her right arm, and it seemed as if the red mark on her skin was slowly spreading and turning worse.

"It's poisonous! Don't let its venom touch you!" Cayden shouted since he had heard about such Dreadlings.

Everyone there wanted to help out Silvi, but right now, they knew they couldn't afford to let down their guard for even one second unless they wanted to get attacked by this venomous Dreadling before them.

However, they came together and formed a protective cover in front of Silvi so that she would be safe for now.

Still, each of them was not faring any better as fear was making their hands and legs tremble, and they were desperately trying their best not to run away by gritting their teeth.

They were taught and trained by their parents to never leave behind their comrades and to fight as one if they ever wanted a chance to defeat a Dreadling.

They also told them that the moment they tuck their tails between their legs and run would be the moment they get targeted by the Dreadling and get killed.

The four of them and the Jawfiend were again having a stare off as it tried to look for any opening. Since it made a surprise attack before, it knew that next time they would be prepared for it.

However, just looking at eight of its eyes staring at them with killing intent filled the hearts of these inexperienced youngsters inflamed the fear and dread in their hearts.

Arion was trying his best to crawl away from the eerie-looking giant spider. He was even more terrified when he saw Silvi getting attacked by its venom.

The venom wasn't even injected into her body but simply fell on her skin, and that was enough to incapacitate her entire right arm. He couldn't imagine how much more injured she would have been if the entire venom fell on her.

He could still see Silvi crying in pain while moving backward, not knowing how to stop the pain or treat this terrible and poisonous injury.

Silvi whimpered as she sobbed, "Somebody h-help...it hurts...ngghhh…"

"Silvi, come here! Let me help you!"

Silvi's eyes brightened up a bit when she saw Ina waving at her from afar. Since Ina was using a bow and arrow, she was already standing more than a dozen meters away from the Dreadling to get a good shot.

But after seeing Silvi getting injured, she got worried and shouted at her to offer her help while putting back her arrow into her quiver.

Silvi rushed towards Ina with whatever energy she could muster despite the excruciating pain she was suffering.

Ina quickly tore out a piece of cloth from her skirt in order to bandage Silvi's injury for the time being.

But when Silvi got to her, and she saw the festered wound, Ina was shocked to see that the venom was eroding her skin away, till even her muscles and bones were starting to become visible slowly.

No matter how gruesome Silvi's right arm looked, Ina tried to focus her best and somehow tied the cloth around her arm while Silvi screamed in pain as Ina tied the cloth around her arm.

"Ina, take her home! We will buy you time!" Cayden shouted from afar while not letting his sight away from the terrifying Dreadling before him.

The four youngsters did not dare to attack first out of fear since they had no idea how it was going to retaliate. All they could pray for was that Silvi and Ina reach home fast enough to call an expert for help.

*Kreee*

The Dreadling clenched its jaws together as some venom dripped from its mouth while slowly stepping closer to them.

"Ahhh, I can't fight it!!" Bari shouted as he ran away, having his courage shattered after completely feeling terrified just from the Dreadling's gaze. He even threw away his axe to run away faster.

He felt as if he was going to die for sure if he kept standing before this monster. His clothes were already drenched from excessive sweating because of how scared he was. The only reason he was able to stand for a while before the Dreadling was because he wanted to protect his friends.

But in the end, his fear for his life won out his courage and thus made him run away like a scared deer.

*Kreee*

The Dreadling screeched upon noticing Bari running away, and because of that, it got an opening to rush at the human running away.

"Don't run, you fool!" Cayden shouted as he tried to block the path of the Dreadling with his sword so that it wouldn't rush towards Bari.

But alas, the Dreadling was too nimble that it sidestepped with its scrawny but powerful limbs and proceeded to run straight, chasing Bari like a predator chasing its scared prey.

Ina was running away while carrying Silvi by putting her arms around her neck. Her pace was slow since she had to carry along the injured Silvi.

However, she heard the shouts from behind, and when she turned around, her eyes widened, seeing that Bari was rushing towards her direction with the Dreadling catching up to him at a fast pace.
