Chapter 44 - Investigator On Duty

Chapter 44: Investigator On Duty

Kyle Leonard smiled, pressing his finger against her lips, “Shh. There is an old couple in the next room, so we’d better be quiet. And I should have told you in advance that your sentence will be judged according to your statements.”

“….”

“Yulem kills captured members to stop them from talking. You look like you’re at the bottom of the ladder, given that you’re not good at camouflaging and handling your knife. Are you going to be captured and killed by Yulem, or are you going to be under the protection of the Laurent Investigative Security Agency, even if you will be stuck in prison for the rest of your life?”

“Don’t make me laugh. If I tell you anything I’ll be dead in a second.”

“So, you admit. It’s up to you. Death or prison.” A silver revolver was pinned on the woman’s temple, and her face instantly turned pale. Park Noah pitied the woman again.

Despite her quivering voice, the woman managed a pretense. “Hey, do you think this would scare me? I know you can’t kill me here. Investigators do not have the right to adjudicate. Ha!”

However, Kyle Leonard wasn’t ensnared by her facade. With menace in his voice, he asked the woman, “Didn’t your boss give you any information about the man next to the woman believed to be Eleonora Asil?”

“What are…”

“There are only four people who possess the right to take immediate action: Her Majesty, Minister of Investigation and Security, Deputy Secretary, and lastly, the General Manager, which means, I can dispose of criminals in any situation at my discretion.”

Pulps of sweat trickled down the woman’s forehead; her face had turned extremely pale. A laugh of scorn escaped the investigator’s lips, “Bad luck, isn’t it?”

Park Noah sunk in her seat, reminding herself not to annoy him from now on. She recalled the moment Kyle Leonard pointed a gun at her, and shivered.

“Uh, uh, the command was only to look at the face! It’s the watcher’s duty!” The woman stuttered, her lips visibly trembling.

“That’s why you were holding a knife? You were going to stab me as soon as I opened the door.”

“Uh… I had no intention to kill. I was just trying to make sure she was the real Eleonora. If she was the real one, I would have withdrawn!”

“I don’t care about your intention. Do you know anything about your boss?”

“No…”

“Is there anyone else who has been given the same order?”

The woman shut her mouth, glaring at him. Kyle Leonard stood up, his eyes devoid of pity, and smacked the woman’s neck with his hand. The woman fainted and collapsed to the cold ground.

Confused, Park Noah asked, “Why didn’t you ask her more?”

“Yulem implants a self-destructing device near the head or heart of all non-executive members. If you say anything about your employer, contract, or organization, the chip explodes immediately, and your head or heart is blown away. She’s not talking, so I guess she’s been transplanted.”

The gruesome information sent chills down her spine. It was brutal, but the words Kyle Leonard uttered next made Park Noah more afraid of something else than Yulem.

“It was the early invention of Eleonora Asil. A detonation chip small enough to be implanted into a living body.”

“…..”

“She was sentenced to death for handing over the design of the chip to Yulem in exchange for a large sum of money.”

Eleonora Asil. To what extent was she evil? Park Noah now understood why Kyle Leonard bore deep, raging hatred towards the witch.

“Then, you can’t get any more information from her.” She muttered, holding her throbbing head.

“There is a way. Send her to the headquarters of the Investigative Security Agency to undergo surgery to remove the chips planted in her body.”

“…..”

“If the chip had planted in her wrist, I would have shot it, but this woman seems to have it planted above her ear. It’ll be a little tricky to remove. If I accidentally touch her head, I’ll be making a fool of myself before I can get any information out of her.”

Brought to the real world, Park Noah realized her journey was more difficult than she had expected. Her body stood frozen in the cabin and her mouth could utter no words.

Kyle Leonard, who dragged the woman’s body into the corner of the room, glanced at her. Then, he grinned, “I certainly warned you. The process of solving cases of this importance is quite extreme.”

“…..”

“But seeing this woman had followed you all the way from Sorrent, there’s no guarantee that Miss Noah will be safe even if she stays there. As a result, you made the right choice.”

Confounded, Park Noah debated whether or not she should be happy that she made the right choice.

“I’ll have to stop by the Lunazel security forces to round her up and send her to the headquarters. It’ll take at least 15 days to get the chip removed and find out who’s behind it.” Kyle Leonard said, interrupting her internal crisis.

“Isn’t it going to take too long? What if there’s another attempt like this?”

“As soon as we get to Tezeba, we’ll have an escort right away. But, the problem is whether we can get to Tezeba safely. Once they know she’s been captured, they’ll send more skilled assassins.”

“What…?”

Oh, mom. I’m scared.
