Chapter 24 - Did Your Date Go smoothly?

Chapter 24 Did Your Date Go smoothly?

The most touching thing in the world was “sincerity.” Although I wasn’t used to Leo’s honest and straightforward way of dating, I had to admit that I was moved by him. If I wanted to move on, the first step was to give myself a chance. I was only 24 years old, and my life had just started. I couldn’t let myself stay 18 forever, could I? Just then, I saw my phone screen light up with a message: “Because Millie had just gotten a little better, I’m still quite worried about the child.” To my surprise, the message was from Mike.

“Baby, how is your date? Call me if you need anything. I’m with Millie now.”

How did Mike know about my date? Did Mandy tell him? Or did he visit Millie, and Millie told him? I felt a little emotional and excited to see that it was a text from Mike.

“How’s Millie? She doesn’t have a fever, does she?” I still couldn’t stop worrying about the child.

“Millie is fine. With me around, don’t worry. You haven’t told me how your date is.” Mike seemed to be very concerned about my date.

“Um, we’re eating dinner. The food tastes delicious,” I said truthfully.

Just then, Leo, who was across from me, said, “Melanda, is everything okay? I see you’ve been texting someone.”

“Oh, it’s okay. I’m sorry, Leo.” I picked up my spoon and was about to continue enjoying my delicious dinner when my phone screen lit up again. “Baby, remember to come back early. And be careful not to choke while you eat.”

I couldn’t help but laugh at the message. This message looked a lot like something my father would send. What was Mike doing? Was he jealous? Through the words, I sensed jealousy. And why did he call me baby again? Even though it was just a text, I still felt my face heat up.

I quickly texted Mike back. “Are you crazy, Mike? You seem like a father jealous of your daughter’s boyfriend.”

Mike’s reply came quickly. “Okay, I’m crazy. I’m crazy for you, baby;)” Oh my God! Was he flirting with me? This lunatic! I was with another man, but he was flirting with me!

I could feel myself blushing even more. Shit. I hoped Leo wouldn’t see through me. But it seemed too late for that.

“Melanda, are you hot? Your face is very red.” Why was Leo so attentive?

“It’s okay,” I answered Leo. I decided to ignore Mike. But frankly, the vibe had been ruined, and I became a little distracted. Even though I stopped replying to him, I couldn’t help but glance at my phone screen from time to time to see if it lit up again.

It was almost nine when we finished dessert. Leo suggested we take a walk somewhere else, but I wanted to go home. “I’m sorry, Leo, but Millie had a high fever last night and I want to go back early to spend time with her. I’ve never been back so late.”

“In that case, okay, I’ll take you home. This is the first time you’ve left your child. You need time to get used to it.” Leo was such a thoughtful man.

Just as we got into the car, Mike’s message came again. “Baby, you should come home. Stay away from that guy. You have to be on guard.” This guy was acting too weird tonight.

“Don’t worry, we’re already on our way back.” I didn’t know if he sensed the impatience in my words.

“That’s great. Millie and I will wait for you at home.” Mike’s text arrived quickly. We didn’t talk all the way home. When we were almost home, Leo’s voice sounded. “Melanda, I’m glad you agreed to have dinner with me tonight. If Millie needs anything in the future, you can call me. I’ll definitely help you.”

“Thank you, Leo,” I said sincerely. “I had a good time tonight, too.”

The car had just stopped when I saw Mike waiting at the door. Leo was shocked to see that it was Mike. After greeting each other, he asked, “Mike, what are you doing here?”

Mike said, “We’re neighbors. Is it strange for me to be here?”

Leo shrugged without comment. Wasn’t it strange to show up at the beautiful neighbor’s house at 9: 30 p.m.? Mike was the only one who could say that shamelessly.

“Um, Leo, my daughter, Millie, likes Mike a lot. I think he’s here to see Millie,” I explained.

Mike said again, “But why are you here?” Anyone could hear the hostility in Mike’s tone.

Leo said, “I like Melanda. I invited her to dinner.” Leo was indeed a young man of the modern era.

It was Mike’s turn to be speechless. “She’s home. You can go.”

“Mike, that’s enough. Where’s Millie?” I interrupted Mike before he could say anything more.

“Millie’s already asleep,” Mike replied.

I turned to Leo. “Thanks for driving me home, Leo. Drive safe on the road.” Leo was in no mood to stay any longer. He said goodbye and left.

“So, did you agree to him?” Mike’s voice came from behind me.
