33 I'm Not Going Anywhere

I grin at her and say "I'm not going anywhere, mom. Besides... I think it's too late for that." Her face falls as she asks "Why do you say that?" I give her a strained smile as I say "The Alpha isn't the only one who knows what I am, so does the head Vampire here and... I have a feeling there's someone else."

My mom slowly stands with a fierce but worried look on her face as she asks "Who? What's going on, Eris?" I run my hand through my hair as I say "It's just a hunch... a gut feeling but someone has been sending lesser demons after me but... this last one was much stronger than the last."

My mother looks at me with fear as she asks "Demons? Why would someone..." She suddenly stops and swallows hard. I nod and finish her sentence "Send demons after me? Someone must know what I am... maybe not entirely but it's clear they know something."

My mother nods and says "We could possibly outrun and hide from Shifters and Vampires but Demons are..." I nod and say "They can pop up anywhere and find you no matter how far and long you run. I'd rather fight on my own turf and give myself a fighting chance."

I snap my fingers and say "That's right! Aren't we all-powerful? Can't I just 'poof' them away?" My mother snorts at me and shakes her head saying "As nice as that would be, no." I look at her in confusion and ask "Did I miss something just now? Did you not just say that we were boundless and all-powerful!?"

She grits her teeth and looks out the window before looking back to me and saying "Our ancestors were but... something has happened and we no longer carry that boundless power." I look at her with confusion and wave my hands around asking "Something happened? What happened?"

She shrugs and says "No one knows. We just started becoming weaker... well, until you. You don't have to use spells... your magic is endless and doesn't need offerings. You... you're different and I believe you are like the women from the past. Boundless and all-powerful but... You just haven't been taught how to use that power."

"Soooo... teach me," I say missing the point. She gives me a sad smile as she says "I can't teach you something I don't know myself. One of the reasons I left your father and decided to hide you was because when I found out I was pregnant with you, I knew you were different. I could feel it in my soul and knew I had to keep you hidden from the world. So that you could grow up to be a strong and powerful force in this world."

I slowly nod my head and say "The old fashioned way it is then. For now, I think you should be careful too. Just in case." She nods her head and stares off, no doubt thinking of ways to keep us safe as I say "I'm gonna go to bed now."

She absentmindedly waves me off as I smirk and walk to my room. Binx is heavily snoring on his back with all four paws stuck up in the air at the end of my bed. I smile at him and climb into bed, finally feeling my tired muscles relax.

When I wake up again, it's to my annoying phone ringing once again. I reach over and feel around for it before pulling it to me "Hello?" I croak out while rubbing my eye. "Your sleeping habits are similar to mine, Eris. Have you been busy?" Ambrose's smooth voice says on the other end.

I pull the phone back and see that it's seven-thirty at night! I quickly sit up and run my hands through my hair as Ambrose chuckles and says "I heard there was quite a mess left at the downtown police station."

I groan and say "What can I do for you Ambrose?" He chuckles again before he says "I've found something interesting and... I wanted to share it with you over dinner. I feel like this is... important to you if you know what I mean."

His cryptic words aren't lost on me so I quickly say "Tell me where to meet you and I'll be there in thirty minutes." He hmms on the phone and says "Meet me at the club and I will take care of the rest." I quickly hang up the phone and get dressed.

After getting cleaned up, I walk out to find my mother missing. She must be out doing stuff and it looks like Eon, my mother's familiar, and Binx have gone with her. I slightly frown at that and hope she isn't doing anything dangerous. I grab a few things and head out.

As I walk into the club, bodies press in close and sway to the rhythm of the music while others stand around talking with drinks in their hands. I ignore them all and walk over to the bar with a familiar vamp serving drinks. When he sees me, he gives me a large smile and grabs a bottle of water for me.

He twists the top off and hands me the bottle with a charming smile. I return the smile and thank him as another popular song comes on. "Boss will be down in a few." He says over the music so I nod in thanks and grab a seat.

I sip on the water and play with the cap as I scan the crowd with my magic but when I feel the familiar ancient power, I turn and look up to see Ambrose walking down the stairs. To be fair, the guy really was good looking but he reminds me of a crafty fox. I still don't know if he's someone I can trust or not.

He walks up with a smile and says "Looking good as always, follow me." I leave the water and nod to the vamp behind the bar before following Ambrose. I expected him to walk out of the club but he starts walking towards the back.

He takes a few turns before stopping before a black door. He turns to me with a smile and says "I wanted to show you what I found first before going to dinner." I frown at him as he opens the door and walks in.
