Chapter 126: High Stakes

Mary sighed as she closed her eyes, 'I can't even go on like this. I feel like a puppet for them… This military contract was a mistake, I'm just stuck now for that mistake but I'll have to live with it for a few more years… The military lied to the awakened about the entire thing and acted like they didn't know that all this happened but they knew all along that some of their weapons were stolen including emps but were too afraid of what might happen if that news were to come online. Now because of that, the awakened's didn't get an opportunity to have safety measures ready and got struck with a quick small scale attack…'

Mary Sighed, 'I can't say any of this right now but I might be able to hint it to them… I've also had enough of the military so I'll be quitting as soon as the contract ends… I'll go back to being a part of the awakened under Master Zhun's leadership… Maybe Hana, or Gold once Master Zhun decides to retire but I won't look back at this job ever again.' She seemed to be slightly frustrated. Mary opened her eyes and looked at the ceiling. She took a deep breath and spoke, "I can't think about this too much, for now, I need sleep."

Alex jumped back from the gremlins. He was cornered by the sheer number of them but he couldn't give up. Alex continued his assault on the gremlins with his leeching punches but as before, the number of gremlins just increased instead of decreasing. The Wolves also seemed to become more and more aggressive and were attacking Alex even more. Alex, who was cut all over needed to take a breather. He ran around, trying to get some space between him and them. 'I didn't want to do this but…' Alex spoke as she took another sip from the small healing potion.

Being healed up back to its original shape, Alex took a deep breath and jumped towards a dark shadow in the corner of the wall. As he did, a wolf jumped from the shadow, striking its claws towards him. Alex bent his body backward and dodged the strike. The wolf jumped over Alex's body but before it was out of Alex's reach, Alex stabbed his dagger upwards and struck the wolf in its stomach.

Blood poured on Alex's face as the world fell onto the floor, bleeding out. Alex jumped to the wolf that was lying on the floor to finish it but before he could do so, the gremlins jumped to the wold and a green hue was glowing around the wolf. The wolf slowly got back up and growled at Alex.

Seeing the wolf being Healed, Alex didn't know what to do for a second. He just felt overwhelmed. The gremlins seemed to never end and the wolf would be healed by them no matter how much he would attack them. It looked truly hopeless for Alex.

However, Alex didn't give up just yet. He wiped his sweat and attacked the wolf. The gremlins seemed to be attached to the wolves so if he took down the wolves, he would have a good chance to take down the gremlins. This was what was going on in Alex's head.

Alex used might and went to kill the wolf in a single blow. It was as powerful as he was but Alex was confident in being able to take the wolf down in one shot if he with surprise. The wolf looked slightly panicked but it jumped back towards Alex, it wanted blood for being previously injured by Alex.

Alex smiled and went to strike down the wolf in one complete blow. He used the leeching punch on the wolf, striking towards its snout. The wolf was blown back and seemed to be in a very weakened state. Alex cursed, 'Shit!' He saw the gremlins jumping to aid the wolf again. Alex had only one idea in mind, throw the dagger. And Alex did so. He threw the dagger towards the wolf with all his strength.

It struck the wolf between its eyes right before the gremlins could heal it, killing it instantly. 'Not exactly what I was thinking but It worked…' Alex smiled as he turned around to the rest of the gremlins. They all seemed to be slightly angered by the death of the first wolf and went on a frenzy to attack Alex.

Alex looked around, trying to find the other wolves. He did the same with the second wolf, found the shadow, punched it to weaken the wolf, and throw the dagger into the wolf to finish it off. Alex turned to the final shadow in the corner. He looked around and knew that he couldn't do the same with the final wolf. It seemed to be eating the gremlins and in turn becoming larger and larger until its body was twice the size of Alex.

Without even knowing it, the number of gremlins in the room had gone down to only 5. Alex knew that this was the right time to follow his initial tactics of going for the weak first then killing the final strong enemy. He jumped and attacked the gremlins whilst dodging the attacks from the wolf. But He wasn't able to dodge them all. One attack hit Alex, causing him to be throw to the other side of the room, breaking several bones. Alex looked as the wolf slowly approached him. He was in pain and couldn't move his body properly at all.

Luckily, the wolf's attack wide enough to not only hit Alex but instantly kill the other remaining gremlins. Alex slowly healed himself. He was in deep pain but right now, everything was too high stakes for him to think about pain. After being healed enough to move around, Alex took another sip from the healing potion, instantly healing his body to the original state. 'That was the last drop from the first potion…' Alex looked slightly disappointed but he couldn't be worried about a healing potion at this moment.

He watched as the wolf slowly approached him, it was too big to run around quickly so its pace was very slow. Something that Alex knew he could use as an advantage.
