Chapter 15 - You Are Mean

Surprisingly, Heya didn't shed a tear. She was used to this and had even experienced far worse.

At least, Shirong had been good to her. He made a few comments to suggest she lost weight but he didn't call her unpleasant names because of it unlike her previous boyfriend whom her aunt had introduced her to. He was a socialite and full of himself. She was never going to forget the words he had said to her before they broke up

"Don't you look at yourself in the mirror? Who would like a pig like you? You should be grateful you have me and stop whining like a little dog."

That had earned him a slap from her, which he had retaliated and even went as far as strangling her with his hands. Long story short, he was still serving jail term.

The only one she believed had genuinely loved her, she had let him go because she was so stupid. She knew it was too late for them now. She had deliberately not attended any occasion she knew he would attend and it seems it was the case for him too because she was told couple of times that even though his parents were present at such occasions where she had missed, he never was present. At this rate, she wasn't sure they were ever going to bump into each other just like they haven't in years.

For 5 years, they haven't seen or spoken a word to each other. Maybe he had even forgotten all about her? Would he even acknowledge her if they bumped into each other some day?

At 29, if her life was still like this, then she didn't have a choice, "Fine! Let's die single!" She said as she got into her car.

*********

"Jo, come see this!" Reen pushed open Joreen's bedroom door and jumped on her bed, wearing only a pant and bra.

Joreen sat up, pushed aside the comic book she was reading, and took Reen's phone to check what Reen was so excited about.

When she saw it, her eyes widened.

"What? Han Yu's contract with G-GLOBAL was terminated?" She asked as if that wasn't what she had just read. Although the headline made it clear it was still a rumour and not a confirmed news.

"I guess uncle Hoy really did something. I was wondering why everyone's been calm." Reen said with a smirk. "Well, serves him right. Next time, he would know better than to take advantage of little gir— oh my God!" Reen held her chest and exclaimed when Joreen suddenly began to complain in a loud, angry voice.

"But he promised me!!" Joreen screeched.

"Keep it down, you startled me girl." Reen said with a frown. "And it really doesn't matter. He should be lucky those nosy reporters didn't know the reason why or else, his career would be over by now. And trust me, as the manager of your fanpage, I won't waste time to magnify the issue and finish him off."

"You are so wicked!"

"And you are so naive. You should at least be grateful that uncle Hoy is trying to keep the media from knowing what had happened on that beach because he knows how much you do not like being on the spotlight."

"I don't care! I'm calling him now."

And she did just that. She thought he wasn't going to pick up after it rang for a while but he did pick up. Reen quickly took the phone from her and put it on loudspeaker before she gave it back to Joreen.

"What did you do?" Joreen asked immediately.

"I ate dinner, fed Ruby his dinner—"

"I'm not talking about that!" She snapped, making Reen flinch. Reen still didn't understand how her youger sister always spoke to Li Hoy without fear. He was a very unapproachable and aloof aloof, even she felt uncomfortable whenever he was around.

"You promised me you were going to let Han Yu go." She reminded him.

"And that's exactly what I did."

Reen used her hand to cover her mouth,  trying not to laugh before she murmured to Joreen, "He played you."

"I wasn't talking about that 'go' I was talking about the other 'go' where you didn't have to do anything to him but you deceived me when you knew exactly what I was talking about!"

"Why are you so pissed? Did you feel some kind of connection with him after he kissed you?"

"Uncle Hoy!" She gasped. She looked completely embarrassed and Reen delighted in it.

"You didn't have to do that to him. So what if I feel some kind of connection with him huh? Are you going to bring him back? For my sake?"

He was quiet for a few seconds before he answered, "You realise you just gave me another reason why he won't ever be returning to G-GLOBAL right? So save your energy and go to bed."

"You are mean!"

She heard him chuckle. "I know."

"I won't ever speak with you again. I'm hanging up."

"Does the idea of sailing a ship scare you?" He asked, stopping her from hanging up.

Scared of sailing? Who told him she was.

"Why would I? No." She answered coldly.

"Alright then. Go to bed. And congratulations on your gift. You deserved it."

"Uhoh! For a moment, I thought you were going to say I was too young to own a car." She said smugly.

"Of course, I won't let you drive until I am sure it's safe for you to drive yourself." He said in a light tone. She could tell he had that annoying smirk on his face right now.

"You are a bully!"

"Good night baby"

Joreen raised a brow before he added, "Jo."

Baby Jo. That did make sense.

"Wow!" Reen said, looking at Joreen with squinted eyes when the call ended.

"What?" Joreen asked, obviously confused.

Reen thought against saying anything and shook her head instead, "That's not possible." She muttered to herself before she stood up from the bed.

"Stop walking around the house naked. Don't you have any shame?" Joreen asked when she took note of what Reen was wearing.

"I don't." Reen replied with a grin as she walked towards the door but turned to remind Joreen,

"Kyle is coming over tomorrow. Thought I should let you know."

"Kyle? Who is that?"

"The 'boy' you've been curious about." She winked at Joreen before leaving the room.
