Chapter 25:Interbreeding

The moment class trickled in, I immediately went straight to the lecture. August leaned on the counter to the right, observing.

"Many of you know of interbreeding, yes?" I asked, getting a few nods from the class.

"Then most of your parents don't approve of it, I'm guessing. Unless of course, it is breeding with a species higher than you, or around your rank."

"We already know most of this," Wren said in a lazy tone.

"Then do you know that inbreeding can give rise to a different being? Although rare, it is in fact possible. Your species, the incubus and succubus, are created from a devil and an undine. The devil for the dreams and the undine for the pheromones.

Of course, this isn't always the case. There are some cases in which a new species isn't made and a halfie is born. A halfie is a creature that often bends the rules. Say, if a vampyr fell in love with a jinx then a halfie could possibly be created and that halfie would have its own sets of rules.

This is also one of the reasons why interbreeding is looked down upon by most races. However, if the halfie leaned more towards one side, then it is obvious that it will follow that rules species.

But there are two exceptions that completely destroy the hierarchy, anyone want to take a guess? Leah?"

"A human is one," she replied.

"Correct, and the other?"

"I wouldn't have a clue."

"The Kikimora. For a human it is because they don't possess a single spark of magic, and so in the next generation, they can manifest the species in its truest form. Otherwise, if two beings of the same species mate, their genes can interfere with each other or cancel each other out. But if you're lucky then the best of each parents is passed down to their child, this is something that most species would rather take a chance on. As interbreeding with a human will only help until the 5h generation, as those from that generation will be infertile. The cause unknown. Adding to that is the trouble of awakening the child's power which isn't always successful.

"For a Kikimora, they are truly an odd species. They are able to pass down their skills along with whatever race they mated with. However, their birthing rate is extremely low. That species is extremely afraid of pain and when experiencing pain, they immediately become corporeal, killing the baby if it was unbirthed. And no shackles can stop a Kikimora from becoming corporeal during childbirth."

"Is that why they are becoming rare?" Elizabeth asked.

"It is one of the reasons, they are truly one of the most powerful species. Their character, however, cancels their power out."

"What would be the next species after them in terms of strength and power?" Silvan asked.

"The Yōkai. There are only 7 that exists, one for each continent. You'll learn more about them later, for now it is time to go."
