Chapter 245 Treat Me Just As You Used To

Chad was having second thoughts about acknowledging this. He knew it would upset Rachel. He nodded.

"I didn't believe it at first. My men saw his butler showing up in the police station and bailing them out. Kun was forced to do what he was asked. I think he was going too far."

Chad knew what was going on between Rachel and Gavin. It was high time he stopped doing that to her.

Rachel was innocent though Gavin was still reeling from Landy's death. After all, she was pregnant with his grandchildren! It was cruel of him to hurt Rachel's mother and it must have been heartbreaking for her.

Rachel came back from losing herself in her thoughts. She picked a small flower into her hands, and her mouth broke into a smile of disappointment. "I don't understand. He shouldn't have done that to me and my mom, especially when Hiram was not around."

She knew Gavin suspected her father of hurting Landy, but surely he knew that she was pregnant now

He could be cruel to her, but how could he be cruel to his own grandchildren!

More than anything, it was wrong for him to take revenge on her mom.

"Rachel, don't you worry. It was lucky that Aunt Fannie wasn't injured badly. I told Hiram everything. He'll take care of it." Chad tried to comfort, seeing her despondence.

Rachel slowly closed her eyes, shook her head and said,"He's Hiram's father, and Hiram is my husband. We will have to let it go."

"Rachel! You must trust Hiram. I'm confident that he can handle his father!" Chad said confidently. He knew Hiram would be on Rachel's side this time.

Rachel was now the most important person in Hiram's world.

If the kidnapping in the theatre hadn't happened, he might take his father's side and turn a blind eye to what Gavin did. But he had let Rachel down once. He wouldn't do it again for his father's sake.

From now on, Hiram wouldn't let Rachel get hurt again by his family.

Chad left and Rachel wandered in the yard for some time. When she turned around to go back into the house, she was surprised to see Fannie standing in the corner. She had no idea how long Fannie had been there.

"Mom?" Rachel called out to her.

Fannie came to herself when she heard Rachel. She walked towards Rachel and said,"Sweetheart, I washed some fruits. Come and eat them with me."

As she came closer, Rachel noticed that she seemed upset. She asked,"Mom, When did you come here? Why didn't you join me?"

"Just a little while ago. I saw you wandering and thought not to disturb you. Come on! Let's go and have some fruit." Fannie said as she took Rachel's hand and walked her in.

"They say an expectant mother should eat as much fruit as she can. Then the baby's skin would be healthy and lovely. When I was pregnant with yo

“Who does she think she is? I won’t marry her even if she is the last woman on earth,” said Hiram Rong.

“Marry into a family with tens of billions of assets? How lucky I am! I won’t be so foolish as to break off the engagement. At worst, I can receive money as part of the divorce settlement,” said Rachel Ruan.

Their great-grandfathers made a pact about their engagement a hundred years ago...

he coffee on the table and walked out silently.

Ten minutes later, there was a visitor at the door. It was Lydia.

She saw Hiram sleeping as she came in. She gazed at his face with blank eyes for a moment and went to the hanger, took his coat and threw it over him.

Hiram woke up the moment the coat touched his body. He grasped her hand and asked groggily,"Rachel, is that you?"

The moment he realized it was not Rachel, he took his hand off. "Why are you here, Lydia?" he asked.

Lydia glanced at her wrist and then replied with a smile,"I dropped by after class. Since you didn't come home, I come here to see you.

I know that you're worried about Rachel, but you must take care of yourself too. Otherwise, she won't be happy. Please come home tonight. You can take a good rest and get back to your work full of energy tomorrow."

Hiram hadn't stayed at his parents' house at Washington since he came back, not even once.

He took the coat off him and put it aside. He rubbed his head and took a sip from the cold coffee before he said,"I've got lots of work to do. You should go home now and I shall get back to work."

Lydia was wounded with his words. She forced a smile and said,"Hiram, I know you hate me after the kidnapping. But it's not right! We are still family!"

Hiram could be very cold to people, but he had a soft spot for her. They grew up together all childhood. Lydia remembered how he used to pull his face to people as a child, but never to her.

"If I promise to get over you and be nice to Rachel, can you treat me just as you used to?" asked Lydia.

She was missing the old times. Times when Hiram warmed her surroundings with his smile whenever they met. Times when he shared the dinner table with her. Times when she stayed around him without a word.

She badly missed those times.
