Volume 2 Epilogue: Accumulated trust and departure

Returning from the sea after defeating the black tortoise, we first received cheers from the residents of the city, including members of the Marine and Shipbuilding Guilds.

They say the damage to Sylvestre miraculously was limited to a few ships and a part of the breakwater.

After that, we received gratitude from Lilac and Wilhelm and took part in the celebration held by the pirate’s inn and the shops nearby.

There, we drank and had our share of fun, then, perhaps finally released from the tension from combat with the black tortoise, the wave of exhaustion finally caught up with us, and so we fell asleep like we were knocked out.

A few days have passed since the day when we enjoyed our rest and had fun.

Around the time when the city had completely regained its usual atmosphere. Together with George and Cecile, I stood in front of the Pirate’s inn.

「Are you going already?」

「Yeah, we already saw most of Sylvestre. ……And we also got a good request.」

While saying that, I look at the request form. Written there was『Transport clients and the letter to the City of the World Tree』. It was requested by the sibling adventurers with whom I worked the other day.

「I will be counting on you two again.」

「Yes! To think the team that defeated the black tortoise, Axel-san, Berzelia-san and the hero of magic, would accept our request! Both me and nee-san will be in your care!

「Yeah…… Truly so. It’s really reassuring……!」

George and Cecile said with sparkling eyes.

It seems that since the black tortoise attack the other day their attitude towards me changed even further, and now they are like this since the moment they were notified that we will be taking their request.

「Looks like you are quite liked, nii-san.」

「Well, I’m glad that I have their trust.」

As such, it turned out that I, along with Berzelia and Saki, will have to take them to the City of the World Tree.

It’s relatively far from the City of Water, but since we are going with somewhat familiar members it should be a comparatively easy journey, or so I thought. But—

「Be careful on your way there. That majin and stuff is still under investigation but it sure stinks.」

Lilac voiced such worries. Wilhelm who stood next to her also nodded in agreement and then warned us.

「After that, Lilac and I probed for more, but as it turned out, that self-proclaimed majin that lured the black tortoise here, had no additional information…」

Yes, later they used【Confession of Truth]on him once again, but nothing came out besides what we already knew. We couldn’t find out who gave him orders as well.

「It’s all good if he acted alone, but it really sounded like he belonged to some faction. I will think about asking for assistance later《Senior Investigator》or someone with a detective-type job. Though it doesn’t change that we have no idea where and what is hiding…… The threat of majins emerged once again. So be careful out there.」

「Yeah, thank you. I’ll be on my guard.」

And while we exchanged such lines with Lilac and others—

「Ah, thank goodness. Axel-san, you still were around.」

Marion came from the inn’s direction.

「I’ve got a bit stuck with my work, I’m glad that I made it in time to see you off.」

She said with a slightly dejected smile, and while speaking in a somewhat regretful tone, she offers a handshake.

「This time it’s a real goodbye, Axel-san.」

「Yeah, see you again, Marion. Thank you for guiding me from the City of Stars to the City of Water despite how busy you are. It was a very pleasant journey. And you also gave me a lot of help in relation to the guild. As a result, I was able to gain the trust of many people.」

As I gave my thanks while shaking her hand, she responded by smiling and shaking her head to the sides.

「Fufu, don’t mind it. If you feel that way, I guess it was worth it for me to come all this way here. As for the guilds, you actually accumulated that much achievements.」

「Hahaha, that’s right. It’s a bit strange saying it right in front of the person in question, but I wouldn’t put so much trust into you just because of a recommendation from Marion.」

Agreeing with Marion’s words Lilac grandly laughed. Then, as if she suddenly remembered something, she looked at my fingers.

「… Ah, that’s right. Speaking of Marion, Axel, do you have that seal of recognition by a guild? I’d like to put the mark of recognition by the marine guild Aquarius as well, would you mind?」

「Ah, let me put my Pisces’ as well. We are really indebted to you after all.」

「Yes, I would be grateful if you did. But are you sure that it’s fine to give marks of approval so casually?」

The two awkwardly smiled when I replied like that.

「What you’ve done for this city is not a trivial thing at all, so there is no issue.」

「That’s right. Rather, if i don’t give you one I’ll feel like crap later on. So I’m gonna do this.」

With those words, Lilac and Wilhelm pulled out small rods and pressed them onto my ring. And with that two additional figures were engraved on the ring.

「Okay. Now…… To say without worries would be a lie, but we can finally see you off——See ya, Flying Carrier that brings victory.」

「Yeah, I’m yet to repay the debt after all. If there is something we can help you with don’t hesitate to contact us anytime. Carrier-niisan!」

「Understood. Thank you, both of you.」

Saying that I shook hands with the two and—

「Master, Master. I finished packing.」

「I’m done as well.」

While glaring at each other with smiles Saki and Berzelia, who went to buy supplies, returned from the local market.

「Looks like you are perfectly ready for travel.」

「Yup, I’m ready to go anytime! I also already said goodbye to Lilac and uncle Wilhelm.」

「Same here. And not just travel preparations, but baby-making preparations as well, ready to go anytime, so if you feel like it, go ahead, Axel. Kinda like that. Yup. 」

「Ah, great. Well, ignoring a certain part——Then, let’s go!」

「「Yeeah!!!」」

And after saying goodbyes to everyone we were acquainted with in Sylvestre we left the City of Water.

While feeling the sea breeze at our backs, we walk along with our new companions.

And full of expectations about what we will see and what we’ll be able to do in the next city we make our way there.
