Volume 2 Chapter 23: Versatility of Transportation Job

「Axel-san. Today, adventurers are going to investigate the source of monsters in the surroundings of this city. I would like to put Axel-san and your comrades in charge of observing several of them.」

This is what we heard from Lilac, who came to serve our meals when we came down to the bar to eat breakfast.

「Hmm? I assume this is the request that you briefly mentioned yesterday?」

「Yes, that’s right. This is the work about which I said that I might have to rely on you.」

「Is that so. But……Observing… Is it okay with my job as a carrier?」

Going by phrasing it doesn’t look like work for a carrier at all.

And I didn’t try anything like that in the City of Stars, so I’m not sure if I should be taking this request. Thinking that I asked—

「No problem, Axel-san. This is also one of the roles for transporter-type jobs.」

Marion who came from the door in the back of the bar said.

「Marion? Good morning. You also woke up early?」

「Yes. I too will be participating as an observer in this investigation. So I have to make some preparations.」

Saying that Marion showed a correspondence box in her hands.

So she will also be in this observer role.

「Um… So, basically, what kind of work is this survey observation? I have a hard time imagining how it is connected to transportation jobs.」

Marion sat at the table and explained while sipping the tea.

「And… Lately, it’s quite rare, but in the case of adventurers from outside the city, they might try to cheat on the quest of investigation and acquisition type. So in part, it is also to prevent this as well.」

「So there are such difficulties as well?」

「Right? So, Axel-san, Berzelia-san. And if it’s fine with you, Hero of Magic Saki as well, I thought I’d ask for your cooperation. We know the power of you three well enough.」

As she said that, Lilac’s eyes became serious.

「……So, how is it? This is a very important survey in order to protect this city, of course, we will prepare a suitable reward. ……Will you do it?」

Power was dwelling in her eyes. She seems to be quite fired up.

And from the fact that she is even willing to use adventurers from the outside, I can see their serious lack of manpower. That being the case I’m not that reluctant to help.

「Yeah… If that’s the task that a carrier can do, then I can try.」

It will be a good experience.

While thinking that, I ask the duo beside me.

「Berzelia, Saki, are you fine with this as well?」

「Yup! Rather, it’s a pleasure to be able to do the same work as Master.」

「Yes, it’s not like I agree with this dragon, but I have no objection to your decision.」

「Okay. —— That’s it, Lilac. The three of us will participate.」

When I answer so, Lilac breathed what appeared to be a sigh of relief and a faint, satisfied smile appeared on her face.

「No no, save it for after we finish our observation work. We merely agreed to do it.」

「Haha, you are right. But having you is indeed reassuring. You just accepting this task makes me grateful.」

Saying that she lightly slaps her cheeks as if trying to wipe the smile from her face.

「Okay……Then, let me officially say, it’s my pleasure to be working with you, Axel-san. The youngsters who I want you to observe this time will arrive here soon. Until then feel free to have your breakfast or ask questions about the current request.」

「Ah, I will also explain some tips about the work of an observer. Ask anything.」

「Okay. Got it.」

And so, we would have breakfast while asking the details about our current assignment.

All while being just a little excited about my new role as an observer.
