Chapter 80 - Comfort

Selene was not yet ready to face the truth about her grandmother's illness. She was not prepared for this event to happen.

Why now? Why did it happen so soon?

In her previous life, she was informed about her grandmother's illness a month after the day she reincarnated.

But unexpectedly, Grandma Elysa suddenly collapsed today which never happened in her previous life.

She couldn't understand why there was a sudden change in her previous life's chronological events and timing.

'Is this because I'm trying to change some incidents in my previous life like attending parties, mingling with Renz's friends, meeting new friends like Gabriel, and saving Samantha's life?'

'But this is the purpose of my reincarnation right? To change my fate and make everything right with no regrets. With this, I can't predict what will happen next? Is everything slowly changing now, including the fate of my grandmother?'

'What if she would leave me so soon? I don't think I can handle that. What should I do?'

Selene was lost in her thoughts as she kept pacing back and forth across the hallway of the waiting area. Eros was leaning on the wall while silently observing Selene.

He could tell that Selene was not okay. Her brown eyes filled with anxiety and there was a storm of complex emotions deep inside her heart. There were lots of things running in her mind right now.

He could no longer stand still. Eros stepped closer to Selene, grabbing her shoulders as he turned her around to face him.

Selene's eyes were already puffy and red because of crying. Eros took a deep sigh before pulling her into his arms. He hugged her again.

Selene didn't complain nor struggle. This was what she needed right now, a warm hug from a friend. She raised her hands and hugged him back, clutching his shirt using her hands

Her tears started to fall down her cheeks once more. She buried her face on his chest and began crying silently.

Eros knew how hard this was for Selene. So he just let her cry. She needed to release them to make herself feel better.

Eros was willing to be her shoulder-to-cry-on at this moment. He wanted to comfort Selene in every darkest moment of her life.

Selene continued weeping and shedding tears while Eros just stroked her hair, rubbing her back. He wanted her to feel that he was there for her.

"Be strong, Selene. This is just a trial for you. I know you will be able to survive this hurdle. I'm just here for you," Eros softly mumbled. There was a hint of sincerity in his every word.

Selene just bobbed her head after hearing his words. Eros tightened his grip on Selene's body. His heart was aching for her as well. He hated to see her cry.

'Selene, what should I do? How can I comfort you? I don't want to see you sad… please cheer up. You have to prepare yourself for the worst. You already knew that this would eventually happen. But I'm so sorry that you have to experience this pain again.'

Eros felt sorry for Selene. If she was just reincarnated a year after her grandmother passed away, she didn't have to undergo this same pain.

But Eros was aware that Selene was also grateful to see her grandmother again. She would rather experience this pain all over again as long as she could be with her grandmother again.

Her grandmother was the only family she had now. She would still be happy for this second chance to bond with her grandmother in the remaining days of her grandma's life. She would make use of her time, showing how much she loved her grandmother.

Selene and Eros were still hugging each other when two people arrived to approach them.

"Selene!"

"Lady Selene!"

Eros and Selene averted their gaze to the sources of those familiar voices. Selene immediately broke the hug and ran toward the man who called her name. That man was none other than Renz.

Renz came to the hospital together with Aunt Ling. She was the one who informed Renz about what happened to Grandma Elysa.

Aunt Ling learned from Selene that they brought Grandma Elysa to Sierra District Hospital. She was worried about the grandmother and granddaughter duo, so she called Renz right away hoping that he could comfort Selene in times like this.

Selene pounced on Renz, embracing him. Renz caught her in his arms, hugging her back.

"Hey, are you alright? I know this might cause you a great shock. But don't worry, Grandma Elysa will be fine," Renz softly said, comforting her.

Selene just nodded her head even though she knew that Grandma Elysa's condition was getting worse. Renz had no idea that Grandma Elysa had a terminal illness.

Seeing Selene in Renz's arms, Eros decided to leave quickly.

'I think I am no longer needed here. Renz's presence is enough to cheer and comfort Selene.' Eros mumbled to himself, flashing a bittersweet smile on his handsome face. There was a gleam of jealousy in his blue eyes.

He glanced at Selene one last time before he turned around to leave. Aunt Ling saw Eros walking away. She was about to call him but he suddenly disappeared from her sight.

"Eh, where did he go? Do I have poor eyesight now because of my age?" Aunt Ling said in puzzlement. She blinked her eyes several times, to clear her vision but to no avail, Eros already left. He was nowhere to be found.

Soon, the doctor and the nurse came out of the ward to approach Grandma Elysa's family member. Selene and Renz faced them. There was a solemn look on their faces as they glanced at Selene and Renz.

"Are you the family members of the patient?" the doctor asked them.

"Yes, doc. I am her granddaughter."

"Okay, Ma'am. Come with us. We have some important things to tell you about the patient's current condition."

Selene and Renz exchanged glances with one another before nodding their heads to follow the doctor. Renz held Selene's hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. He wanted to let her know that everything would be fine.
