Chapter 77 - What Have You Done To Me?

After Selene treated Eros's wound, he started ranting at her again.

"By the way, Selene, I'm not yet done lecturing you. Next time, can you listen to my instructions and not do something reckless! You uhm~"

Eros didn't finish his words as Selene pounced on him, covering his mouth right away using her hand. Because of that action, Eros was pushed down on the sofa while Selene was on top of him.

"Shhhh! Stay quiet! Don't mention anything about what happened a while ago. Grandma might hear us," Selene murmured to Eros.

She didn't want her grandmother to know what the two of them had experienced today. Grandma Elysa didn't know the real reason why Eros got injured.

If she learned that they encountered a stranger with a knife and Eros got injured during the fight, Grandma Elysa might worry about Selene. She might also misunderstand everything and would stop Selene from seeing Eros, who was known as Gabriel.

Eros could only nod his head and gave her a thumbs-up sign, indicating he understood. They were still in that kind of awkward position when Grandma Elysa returned to the living room, thus witnessing the two of them on the sofa.

Grandma Elysa was dumbfounded for a moment seeing Selene on top of Eros while they were on the sofa.

"Cough! Cough!" Grandma Elysa cleared her throat after she recovered from the shock, catching the attention of Selene and Eros.

When they averted their gaze to Grandma Elysa, they saw her holding a tray of food with her eyebrow raised. She was giving them both a questioning gaze as if asking them 'What are you two doing on that sofa?'

Selene's eyes widened in realization. They were in a very awkward position wherein she was pinning Eros down the sofa.

She immediately retreated her hand away from Eros's mouth and sat up straight, smiling sheepishly at Grandma Elysa.

Eros also got up from the sofa and sat properly in his spot, not looking into Grandma Elysa's eyes. The two of them felt guilty as if they were caught while doing something bad.

Seeing the embarrassed expressions of the two young people, Grandma Elysa decided not to mention anything about what she had seen so that Selene and Eros would not feel uncomfortable in her presence.

"Oh, come and have a snack first," Grandma Elysa put down the food on the mini glass table in front of them.

Eros glanced at Selene helplessly. It had not been that long when they finished their lunch. He was still full but he didn't have the heart to refuse this. Grandma Elysa had prepared those snacks personally. Eros had no choice but to eat his fill.

While Eros was busy eating the snacks Grandma Elysa prepared for him, Grandma Elysa called Selene to come with her to the kitchen. She wanted to talk to her granddaughter privately.

"My dearest, Selene, be honest with me. Is Gabriel your suitor? Is he courting you?" Grandma Elysa blatantly asked Selene.

Selene's jaw dropped upon hearing that question from her grandmother. She quickly shook her head vigorously as a response.

"No grandma. Gabriel is just my friend. He is not courting me. Besides, he already has a girlfriend," Selene said, correcting Grandma Elysa's wrong assumption.

Grandma Elysa didn't know if she was glad to hear that or not. For some unknown reason, she felt at ease seeing Eros and Selene together.

But of course, she should not assume things between them, since Selene was already betrothed to Renz. Selene was meant to marry Renz and become his wife.

"Hmm…"

"Grandma, if this is about what you have seen moments ago, believe me, it's just nothing. Gabriel had said something I didn't like so I tried to cover his mouth. There's nothing going on between us. Besides, Renz is my fiancee. I will not dare cheat on him," Selene explained to her grandmother spontaneously.

Grandma Elysa nodded at Selene with a teasing smile. "Alright, dear. No need to explain. I understand. I believe you. Don't cry."

"Eh, grandma! I'm not crying. I'm just explaining!"

"Haha! I know. I am just teasing you. Now, let's go back and entertain your FRIEND!" Grandma Elysa emphasized the word friend while looking at Selene meaningfully.

After bonding with them for several minutes, Grandma Elysa left the two of them. She was feeling tired and wanted to take a nap.

Grandma Elysa was not feeling well because of her illness but she was trying her best not to show it to Selene. Fortunately, Eros was there. Selene was occupied by entertaining him. Grandma took that chance to leave them and hide in her own room.

When Selene and Eros were left alone in the living room, they started talking again about their encounter with the strange man.

"By the way, did you confirm it? Did you see if the guy has a dragon tattoo on his arm?"

During their meeting at the Cafe, Selene told Gabriel, Eros's other identity, that Samantha's life was in danger. When Eros asked her how she knew that, Selene just told him that she saw it through a vision.

Honestly, Selene just tried to see if Gabriel would buy it. But surprisingly, he just believed her without asking more questions.

Selene thought maybe Gabriel was just desperate to have a part-time job so he didn't care whether Selene was telling the truth about her vision or not. Unknown to her, Gabriel was Eros, so he already knew about Samantha's situation.

With that, Selene informed Eros about the suspect having a dragon tattoo on his arm. She also mentioned the Orion Empire Hotel as a dangerous place for Samantha.

Their mission was to find the identity of the culprit. They were looking for a person who had a dragon tattoo. Second mission: they had to closely monitor Samantha's movement secretly.

Third Mission: they had to prevent her from coming to Orion Empire Hotel, especially on the day she died in Selene's previous life.

"Yes, I checked it. But he is not the guy we are looking for. He doesn't have any dragon tattoo on his arms. Are you sure that the culprit who wants to harm Samantha is a guy with a dragon tattoo?" Eros asked Selene again.

Selene sighed deeply. "Honestly, I don't have any idea as well. I'm not sure."

"All I can remember is that the police were looking for a guy with a dragon tattoo because he was the last person spotted together with Samantha in the Orion Empire Hotel before she was found dead in her hotel room."

"Unfortunately, the investigators didn't find the identity of the guy. He was the only clue to solve Samantha's case," Selene said, feeling saddened as she recalled the injustice that happened to Samantha.

Eros just bobbed his head. He was silent as he tried to figure out what was the connection of the guy he encountered today in Samantha's fate.

'Wait, why do I feel like our real mission is being diverted now? We are supposed to work on making Renz fall for her, but here we are trying to do another dangerous mission to save her friend.' Eros smacked his forehead at that realization.

"Hey, what's wrong? Did you remember something?" Selene asked Eros inquisitively when she saw his action.

'Yes, I remembered something! WE. ARE. SUPPOSED. TO. DO. MY. CUPID'S. MISSION. But we are here, thinking about something else and meddling with the grim reaper's task.' Eros thought to himself while shaking his head to Selene.

"Nothing," he simply responded to her.

He couldn't remind her that because he was facing her right now as Gabriel, a human, not Eros, her cupid.

But deep inside, Eros preferred doing this now than to finish his mission of helping Selene in winning Renz's heart. The sooner he would accomplish this mission, the earlier he had to say goodbye to Selene.

For some unknown reason, Eros began to feel worried… worried that they would accomplish their goal soon. If that would happen, then he would no longer be with Selene.

And the saddest thing was Selene would have to forget about his existence. Eros would be erased in her memory.

Just thinking about being completely forgotten by Selene made his heart clenched tightly inside his chest.

'Why am I feeling this pain? Am I sad? But why? I am not supposed to feel this. I have been working as a cupid for so long, helping my human contractees to find their true love. Lots of them had already forgotten me. But I have never felt this feeling of sadness before.'

Eros reflexively pressed his chest using his arm. Selene looked at him worriedly when she saw that.

"Hey, are you alright? Do you feel hurt somewhere? I told you, we should have gone to the hospital to treat your wound!" Selene moved closer to Eros, holding his hand to check his wound.

Eros's heart skipped a beat after seeing the genuine concern in Selene's brown eyes.

'Selene, what have you done to me? Why am I feeling this way just because of you?'
