28 Once Abandoned Hope

I'm running, running... Running.

But for some reason I'm also crying. I have tears running down my cheeks, and my vision is blurring from the moisture.

Why am I crying?

I haven't cried as much as you might expect from a captive person, so...Why now. I suppose that this is a rather big moment for me, but...

Oh, whatever- I don't have time to think about this right now, I'm too busy running for my life.

My legs are burning, even though I'm pretty sure I haven't been running for long.Even though I can't hear it, I'm pretty sure that there are guards yelling at me. I can't even see where I'm going, but I wouldn't be surprised if I've been heading in a circle.

Wiping my eyes, I see a wall fast approaching. Panicking, I quickly turn a sharp right and run down a long stone corridor. I start desperately searching for door or a window but all I see is the same stone walls.

The corridor seems almost endless and there are no turns in sight. My bare feet are bleeding from the jagged floors and I can't hear whether or not there are footsteps behind me.

I won't be able to last long, going on like this. I feel as if I'm about to collapse.

I sneak a small glance behind me and see something that makes even more fear creep into my heart. There are countless guards stomping after me, all of them wearing ferocious expressions. They're completely different from the guards that would watch me with bored and somewhat stupid gazes.

Switching my attention back to the path in front of me, I focused on searching for a way out.

I was rapidly losing hope.

But that was when I saw that small sliver of light. I was too far away to tell where it was coming from, but it was there.

It was real.

My once abandoned hope rose.

But it didn't get very far because...

I tripped.
