Chapter 58:Just Deserts

On the way to the police station, there was a traffic jam that was caused by a fatal accident up ahead. Jordan and company were unfortunate to watch the whole scene unfold right in front of them. They managed to escape the incident by a cat's whisker. It was a head-on collision between a haulage truck and Aston Martin.

"Lana..that looks like your car." Jordan peered out the window. "Stay here." He said as he jumped out of the car. He could tell that car apart from anywhere because he had chosen it for her personally.

"Where are you going?" Jones called out and went after him. So did Lana.

"To investigate," he hurried towards the accident scene. "What are you doing here baby? I thought I told you to-never mind.." he sighed and grabbed her hand and they walked together.

They got to the gruesome sight and it was evident that there were no survivors that made it out alive. The bodies were thrown out of the car and lay gibbeted, mangled, and torn to pieces. It was heart-sickening to witness the bloody, mutilated forms.

"You shouldn't be seeing this-let's go back-" Jordan pulled her away and she stood, frozen to the spot.

"Th-that's Scott.." Her heart sank and her voice dwindled to a quavering, unfamiliar whisper as she pointed a trembling finger.

"You're sure?" Jordan's gaze followed the direction of her outstretched hand.

"I might have to get a closer look but I'm sure.." she swallowed hard, "I recognize the shoes.. and his hair-"

"If it is Scott then I hope he rots in hell!" Lana was quite conscious of his distaste, but it didn't trouble her. "I think you've seen enough. Come on," he took her arm and led her back to the car.

After the police had taken her statement Jordan decided to take her home but they were intercepted at the exit point by Ron Pullock, Preston's lawyer. "It would be in your best interest if you came with me to see my client."

"That sounds like a threat.." Jordan scowled with a natural hate, and refused to comply with the request. "Jones I think you should get Barry to get down here." His hold on Lana's hand tightened.

"Does that mean you're willing to talk? Strike some sort of compromise?" Mr Pullock clutched his attache case and looked at them expectantly.

"Actually..I think I will see Preston," Jordan nodded slowly.

"I'm glad you've seen reason," Pullock smirked.

"Jordan..no.." Jones warned.

"Keep an eye on Lana. I'll be right back.." He walked behind the attorney and followed him down the long hallway.

As soon as they entered the interrogation room, Jordan ran towards Preston, tackled him to the ground and began to beat the living daylights out of him; and the hands of the other grappled at Jordan's as he continuously smashed into his face. He grasped the arm of his assailant and struggled with all his might, but to no purpose. The crack of a breaking bone was heard as Preston was kneaded and pummeled until he could hardly repress cries of pain. His face was a bloody mess and Jordan, blinded by rage, continued his assault.

His attorney watched helplessly and resolved to go out and call security to restrain Jordan. The officers stationed at the door had decided to turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the commotion going on in the next room.

"My client is being attacked and you're all standing idly out here! I can sue-" Mr Pullock fumed.

"We just did what you did. You just stood and watched." One of the officers said with a careless shrug.

"Besides, he deserves whatever Carter is dishing out. Plus my son is a huge fan so.." the other officer added.

"If anything happens to my client I will hold you solely responsible!" He threatened with a clench of his jaw.

"I wouldn't be so worried about your client. He's a lost cause-too many charges against him," the officer advised.

"Drug possession, ****, blackmail, kidnapping, sex-trafficking, DUI, assault-do you really want me to go on?" the other officer asked.

Pullock threw them a look of contempt and stepped back into the room. Jordan seemed to be done and was yelling into Preston's face; "You were my friend Pres! How could you do this to me?! Huh?!" All Preston could do was grunt and splutter his response, as he lay coiled on the cold floor.

"Mr Carter I think that's enough!" Pullock finally spoke up.

"I'm done with him anyway!" Jordan snapped as he straightened up.

"You do know that we will be pressing charges?"

"Whatever," Jordan muttered and pushed him aside as he exited.

"Good going Mr Carter," the officers said. He nodded his head, not dejectedly so much as in dismay.

He trudged down the corridor in search of Jones and Lana, his hands swollen and throbbing in pain. He kept wondering why Preston continually betrayed him? He had been a good friend to Preston-he had been like a brother to him. They had been through so much together-why would Preston want to do him wrong? To hurt him-to hurt the only woman he ever loved? He had never wronged him in anyway-at anytime.. Jordan couldn't come up with a logical explanation for any of this-none of this made sense..

Jones rose up from the bench to meet him, "Jordan! What have you done?!"

"Please take Lana home? I just-I need to be alone for a while okay?" he answered, despondently, looking up at Jones with tear-stained eyes.

"Okay..don't get into any more trouble you hear?" Jones rebuked him, as he placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Is he okay?" Lana came up behind Jones, as he watched Jordan bolt out of the station.

"Yeah..he will be.." Jones turned to face her. "Everything is taking its toll and he's wrestling with so many feelings right now.."

"I understand.." Lana nodded.

"Let's get you home kid. You look like you're about to drop with exhaustion." Jones put his arm around her shoulder and led her out.
