Chapter 48:A Reason To Stay

Lana had decided to take Amaya up on her offer to move to New York. Kyle had even used his connections and got her a place at The Julliard School, where he tutored now and again. She had always wanted to enroll there and although she had to repeat a whole eighteen months in order to graduate, this was like a dream come true for her. However, she had a few loose ends to tie up at her current college before she embarked on her new journey. There was the end of year college dance and all the music classes would be given a chance to perform their songs on that night. Lana didn't want to let her friends down so she was going still showing up for band practice with Austin, Tyler, and Charlotte.

Jordan even allowed them to use his studio for their rehearsals and would sometimes listen in to give them pointers. He was their unofficial coach and they didn't mind one bit.

He had kept his distance like she had asked and didn't press the issue of reconciliation any further. But he ached to touch her, to hold her, to kiss her..and would spend many nights sneaking into her room just to watch her sleep. He would have given anything to be close to her again but she didn't seem to be on the same page as him.

Her friends left after another rehearsal and she lingered in the studio a little longer with Jordan. He was sitting at the grand piano and she placed herself beside him.

"Jordan, I have something to tell you. " she twisted her fingers nervously.

"What is it? You know that you can tell me anything right?" He twisted his sideways so that he could look at her.

"You might not like what I'm about to say but-uh-I've decided to move to Manhattan with Maya and Kyle.."

"Oh."

"I think it would be better if I made a fresh start somewhere else you know?" She scratched the back of her head.

"So where does that leave us?" Jordan stared at the black and white keys on the piano, trying to keep it together.

"I-nothing has changed..I'm sorry.." She squeezed his arm gently.

"So you're saying there's no chance?" He couldn't brink himself to look at her, lest she see the tears that were pricking his eyes.

"I'm saying that I need to focus on my life for a change. In case you haven't noticed..my life has been a mess-I need to piece myself back together and start living again. For me. I hope you understand?"

"Where do I fit in? In all of that, where do I fit in Lana?" He placed his hands on her shoulders and fixed his eyes on her. "Is there any place for me in your future plans? Do you not see us embarking on this new journey together? I need to know baby?"

"I need to do this on my own-I need to prove to myself that I can make it on my own.." She said with conviction. "You've taken everything from me and now I don't have anything more to give..I'm just an empty shell.." She lowered her head and her hair fell over her face.

"Then allow me to give it back?" He held her face between his hands. "Give me a chance to love you like I was supposed to?"

"I want to..but the timing just isn't right.."

"Karaoke?" Jordan asked hopefully as he turned and struck a familiar tune on the piano.

"Carter we can't sort out our issues like this-"

"Humor me? Please?" He continued to play and signaled for her to begin to sing.

Right from the start

You were a thief, you stole my heart

And I your willing victim

I let you see the parts of me, that weren't all that pretty

And with every touch you fixed them

Now you've been talking in your sleep oh oh

Things you never say to me oh oh

Tell me that you've had enough

Of our love, our love

Just give me a reason, just a little bit's enough

Just a second we're not broken just bent, and we can learn to love again

It's in the stars, it's been written in the scars on our hearts

I'm sorry I don't understand

Where all of this is coming from

I thought that we were fine (Oh we had everything)

Your head is running wild again

My dear we still have everythin'

And it's all in your mind (Yeah but this is happenin')

You've been havin' real bad dreams oh oh

You used to lie so close to me oh oh

There's nothing more than empty sheets between our love, our love

Oh our love, our love

Just give me a reason, just a little bit's enough

Just a second we're not broken just bent and we can learn to love again

I never stop, you're still written in the scars on my heart

You're not broken just bent and we can learn to love again

Oh tear ducts and rust

I'll fix it for us

We're collecting dust, but our love's enough

You're holding it in

You're pouring a drink

No nothing is as bad as it seems

We'll come clean

Just give me a reason just a little bit's enough

Just a second we're not broken just bent and we can learn to love again

It's in the stars, it's been written in the scars on our hearts

That we're not broken just bent and we can learn to love again

Just give me a reason, just a little bit's enough

Just a second we're not broken just bent, and we can learn to love again

It's in the stars, it's been written in the scars on our hearts

That we're not broken just bent, and we can learn to love again

Oh we can learn to love again

Oh we can learn to love again oh oh

Oh that we're not broken just bent and we can learn to love again
