Chapter 231: Did the Boss Spank You?

When Cai De introduced her, Peng Huo clapped his hand together. "You're beautiful. Have I seen you somewhere?" he asked.

Qian Meng had never seen him, so she didn't respond.

"Maybe not. How would I know you?" he sighed. "I've been working here since college and the work is keeping me alive at this point. With Mr. Mo running behind me with a sword to perfect everything… I need to cleanse my aura." He put his hand on his chest. "As you can see… this body is a gift from God." He batted his eyelash at Qian Meng.

She chuckled thinking he was joking around, but then she noticed he wasn't chuckling along with her.

A diva. A diva who liked yoga.

"Where did you work before this?" he asked casually. "Did your boss spank you there, too? Is that why you came to our company?"

Qian Meng choked on her chuckle. "Excuse me?"

"Oh, so you are an innocent flower and walked into the dragon's lair. He'll eat you alive!" He shook his head in disappointment.

Before she could respond, a woman appeared behind him. She rolled her eyes and snapped, "Leave her alone."

"God, Huo Lei, don't be so prissy. It's not my fault you need to work overtime!" He swung his hand over his head theatrically.

The woman just shook her head, though she looked amused. "I'm Huo Lei, Software Developer in Team One. Peng Huo and I went to college together, but he became a scared lamb down the way."

Qian Meng could guess that they had an amicable relationship and were not in the same team. That was why they could talk this way to one another.

"Nice meeting you," Qian Meng said.

Cai De came back from wherever he had gone. "Okay, follow me. Mr. Mo might call on you at any moment. Let's complete the tour." He walked Qian Meng through the rooms. "Just so you know… we have an employee's meet every year and we dress up. You should be prepared for that!"

That sounded fun and not something Mo Qingchen would indulge in.

Cai De pulled out his phone and showed her a picture. It was a group photo of core staff it looked like. They were dressed in clothes from the Western seventies. She recognized Cai De, Peng Huo, Huo Lei, and Gu Rong. There were also several people in the photo she didn't recognize.

Qian Meng released a half-laugh. The photo was equal parts funny and disturbing to look at.

"This was last year. We always go with a theme." Cai De smiled as he looked over her shoulder at the picture.

"Such a shame you weren't born in this decade. Those clothes were made for you," Qian Meng complimented.

"Ah, don't tease me just yet. You should wait to see what we have planned this year. You are going to love it." He headed for the door snickering and smiling devilishly as he went.

"I want to see you in a mullet, for some reason," Qian Meng commented, her hands folded in prayer.

"Keep speaking, little girl. Don't forget, you're the newbie here. This means you don't get any input on your first costume. Be warned, we are a very creative bunch." He gave her a quick wink and closed the door.

They were led back to the main area, where the familiar faces had congregated. It seemed like everyone was done with their work or taking a break.

Peng Huo came up to Qian Meng. "How do you like the building?" he asked.

"It's very beautiful. Who designed all of this?" Qian Meng asked.

Peng Huo shrugged. "Probably the aesthetic Mr. Mo likes. Grand and expensive."

Qian Meng shook his head. "No. He despises the decoration, I can assure you," she snickered. She could imagine him dreading walking through those hallways.

"How would you know?" he asked.

Her phone rang just at the moment. She looked at the name and smiled. "I'm in the health club. Done?" Qian Meng asked gently.

"Yes, I am just coming down to get you. I finished work."

"Okay. I'm waiting," Qian Meng chirped.

She hung up the phone.

The people around her stared. "Am I not allowed to take calls in the building?" she joked under their eyes.

"Oh, no. Just… I never thought anyone apart from Gu Rong would be in a relationship. You have a partner and still came to this company as a secretary."

Qian Meng frowned. "Why? Do the executive secretaries come to seduce Mo Qingchen?" she asked.

There was some commotion. "Whoa. You can't call him that!" Peng Huo leaped to her side. "If you call his name, he will appear."

Qian Meng started to laugh really loudly. They thought she didn't believe them but when the elevator door opened and Mo Qingchen arrived, she heard Peng Huo say something on the lines of, 'I told you so.'

She continued to laugh, unable to stop herself. It wasn't that she found the situation amusing, it was just funny thinking how these people would react.

She was desperately gasping for air when she sheepishly looked at Mo Qingchen through red, watery eyes. She was sure she looked unstable. The others around her had the same freaked-out expression that she thought they would.

Mo Qingchen, though, shook his head in amusement and held his hand out to her.

He rubbed the moisture away from her eye. And took it. "You're late," she reprimanded in an amused voice.

"I had business to take care of. Let's go," he announced. He looked around at the room and then at Qian Meng questioningly.

Qian Meng turned to them. "Sorry for duping all of you. No one gave me the opportunity to say who I was when I arrived. I'm Yun Qian Meng. My office is across the street."

There was silence in the room.

"Why are you… here?" Peng Huo was the first to respond. He finally realized where he had seen her.
