Chapter 5

Translator: Yonnee

Theres a saying that human beings could survive for weeks without eating, but this was Lindberghs mansion.

Days? Weeks?

Nothing mattered.

Once satiety levels reach zero, you just drop dead, period.

In other words, game over.

What are you talking about all of a sudden?

He seemed very taken aback.

Of course, what I brought up just now was obviously unnatural given the context of our conversation, but the number floating right in front of me was compelling me into urgency.

And, no thank you.

Still though, wouldnt it be better to have something in your stomach? You need energy if you want to keep looking for the Room of Truth.

As if what I said hit a sore spot, Dietrichs brows became knitted together.

I dont mean to, but for some reason, I kind of keep offending him every time I say something.

Maybe I should just keep my mouth shut.

I dont need to eat.

If we leave it at that, would Dietrich be able to find something to eat later while hes on his own?

Hed starve to death sooner or later if he couldnt get food in his stomach.

This left me with no choice.

If you dont eat, Ill break into your room in the middle of the night.

Are you insane?

Thats not all. Im also going to pounce on you and tie you up.

Youre out of your mind

So just listen to me obediently, hm? Before I force your mouth open and feed you against your will.

What I had learned in life was thiswhen subjecting someone to the horrors of confinement or violence, whichever it was, just do it while at least keeping them fed.

Did my threat work, I wonder.

Dietrich started following me, albeit with a contemptuous look on his face.

Dont worry, Dietrich. The meals here are delicious.

If the meals arent good, wed really have to escape here, you know.

Actually, uh, was that something I should say to someone who couldnt escape?

I tried to console the disgruntled Dietrich with my words, but that just made his mood worsen.

I truly dislike someone like your type.

Ah, thats too bad. I feel the opposite.

With a flustered expression on his face as he was looking at me, Dietrich said nothing back. Hes probably thinking he wouldnt be able to talk to me properly.

Map.

I looked at the map and found a room nearby that had food inside.

Cmon, Dietrich.

The contemptuous look was still there, but Dietrich nonetheless followed and didnt put up a fight.

* * *

Ah, good grief.

Were here to pick up the food now, but apparently, there was already an owner.

Grrrk?

The monster looked back at both me and Dietrich.

Sometimes, one particularly annoying type of room among all rooms where meals were prepared, but they came with the added bonus of a monster.

In those rooms, youd only be able to eat the prepared meal after you had already dealt with the monster.

Of course, this applied to only Dietrich.

[ HP: 20/20 ]

The monsters HP could be seen above its head.

I had never seen that before, but maybe this was one of the things that came with the system upgrade.

Grrrk!

Upon catching sight of Dietrich behind me, the monster started openly showing hostility.

However, I smiled broadly at the monster.

Sure, try me. Ill kill you at once.

Grrk

As I threatened the monster with a bright face, the growling monster lowered its tail.

Seeing me like this, Dietrich seemed amazed.

Its not attacking you.

I did say Ill kill it if it does, right? It understood what I said, so it seems pretty smart.

There seemed to be a lot that Dietrich wanted to say, but he just closed his mouth as if he had firmly changed his mind.

Anyway, I didnt mind his reaction and just sat down at the table, brazenly passing by the monster.

As he was standing next to me, Dietrich wouldnt budge, so I pulled him forward and sat him down on a chair.

Then, he stared intently at the monster.

Arent you getting out? I asked it.

Grrrk

The moment I made a sharp gesture with my chin to urge it to leave, the monster pitifully hung its head low and left the room.

To be honest, I was surprised that the monster understood me.

Throughout my life here in the mansion, I rarely encountered monsters.

And even if I bumped into some of them, they didnt care about me and just quietly went about their business.

Now that the monsters gone, eat as much as you want.

However, Dietrich didnt touch the food at all and just stared at me blankly.

Whats the catch.

The only thing he did was utter these words quietly.

What catch? Theres none, just eat.

What I meant to say is, why are you being so kind to me?

Indeed. Im the one who got him into this mess and locked him up, so its only natural that hes suspicious of my actions.

Just seems like youre hungry, sall.

You dont have to care about that.

I decided to care though?

Ha.
