Chapter 283 - REGIONAL JAIL II

Just like this time, when Jackie and everyone in the kitchen finished cooking, they placed all the food in the counter behind the glass to make sure that everyone would be able so see the food that they're getting.

When it was time to eat, all prisoners will be guided towards the dining hall and some of them were chatting with their climates but, Simon would walk quietly towards a corner and away from the crowd.

The first day that she arrived, she looked for Simon to see if he's doing fine. When she found him, she would always look in his direction. That's when the warden noticed this simple yet intentional observation of someone.

As usual, this time wasn't an exception. Simon sat on his usual seat, facing his back to Jackie but she didn't mind it as long as she could see him.

Vincent Ruiz, the young warden, caught her watching the man again. He walked towards Simon and sat opposite him.

Simon just greeted him and behaved himself in front of the warden. He didn't want to make enemy with the person who can help him inside with so many people who wanted him dead.

"Simon, do you know that woman behind the counter?" Vincent asked him while he placed his hand on his palm.

Simon looked over and saw Jackie preparing the utensils. "Nope. I haven't seen her before. Why?"

"I just noticed that she had been watching you since she arrived her a week ago."

"She did? That's weird. I don't really know her." Simon told him the truth and he believed him because he knew that Simon was a decent and honest person. He even exposed his family because he knew that they were wrong. "I'll take her for questioning later. I'd like you to come as well. I don't want to put your life in danger if she's someone dangerous.

He actually pinpointed the truth but he made a slight mistake. She wasn't dangerous to Simon at all.

Jackie could feel someone observing her but she didn't bother herself to look who it was. She knew a certain someone who would observed her bluntly without any shame.

The day ended and she was still unable to do her task. She sighed deeply while leaning on the back of the kitchen chair. She looked up at the ceiling and closed her eyes from the stressful environment.

"Tired?"

She knew who owned that voice and his voice alone can irk her. She opened her eyes and found him watching over her.

"Can you stop showing yourself here? Why don't you place a dozen of CCTV cameras here if you are that suspicious of me?"

"I don't want to spend money recklessly when I can use my feet and eyes to come over."

Jackie didn't say anything. She wasn't sure yet but she figured that he knew her already. It would be troublesome if he caught her in the act knowing that he would just pop out of nowhere and show his face in the kitchen.

''Once you are done here, come over to my office. I have questions to ask you."

"Why not ask me here?"

"Someone will be there to accompany us."

After telling his purpose of visit, he left the room and went back to his office. Jackie could already feel the incoming headache but she didn't have a choice but to go over.

"Looks like you caught his interest." The head chef stated with a smile. "I've never seen him step foot in this kitchen for god-knows-how-many-years already."

"He is suspicious of me. He was more like looking at a criminal than looking at a woman." Jackie opposed the chef's statement while she removed her apron. "I'll go visit his office for questioning. I'll leave first."

"Hn. Don't be afraid of him. He's actually kind." The chef reminded her which Jackie ignored.

'Kind? Who? Him? I doubt that.' she questioned and sneered mentally to herself.

She knew where his office was and the officers roaming around where respectful of her. She didn't know why he was very suspicious of her.

She was just about to knock on the door when she heard the voice inside telling her to get in.

She opened it and saw Simon sitting on the couch with the warden sitting opposite him.

"So what's this all about?" Jackie asked without bothering herself to sit. She just stood at the door in case she needed to escape.

"I just noticed that since you arrived here, you've watching Simon Summer from the kitchen counter. Do you know him?" Vincent asked Jackie, at the same time he was watching her facial expression.

To his dismay, Jackie just rolled her eyes on him. "I know him. I saw him on TV. Does it bother you that much?"

"Not really. I was just worried that you are plotting something against him."

"If there's anyone I want to plot against, it would be you. Do you even know how annoying your actions are? If you know something, just tell me directly. Don't play a fool in front of me."

Not only Vincent but Simon was also shocked with her fearless behavior. She didn't care about anyone's status and she wasn't the least bit affected of him at all.

Vincent took several pictures from his drawer and showed it to her. Simon was surprised once again to see a twin caught by the camera.

"Which one are you?" Vincent asked.

"Why don't you guess? Anyway, I'm just here to make sure that Mr. Simon is safe and sound."

"Who hired you?"

"Do you think I'm an idiot?" Jackie rolled her eyes as she crossed her arms on her chest. "No matter who my employer is, you didn't need to know them."

Vincent sighed and took the pictures to keep them in his drawer. "I suggest that you leave this place. In any case, nothing will happen to Simon. If your sole purpose is to keep him safe, then I can do that for you."

"Sure. I'll leave right now." Jackie turned around immediately since there's no point to continue with her task when she's exposed.

"Wait! You will leave right now?" Vincent was dumbfounded with her reply. He thought that she would insist to stay since he didn't really expose her. He didn't even know why she was there. He just chose to believe that she was there to keep Simon safe.

Jackie raised her eyebrow in question. But Vincent didn't know what else to say.

"Can you stay a bit?"
