Chapter 208 - WANTED TO CLARIFY BUT CAN'T

"You are so adamant in making me open the door and I didn't get to put on my clothes." Gabriel stated with his raised brow. "Shouldn't that be your fault?" He was standing right in front of her, half-naked with just a towel wrapped around his waist.

"You knew someone was on the door. You should've at least put on some clothes!" she yelled at him before turning around to avoid seeing him. "Put on some clothes now. I need to talk to you." she calmly stated while trying to ease her beating heart. 'I'm worried that the towel would fell.' she added mentally before covering her hot face.

She heard him walking around the room, shuffling through his bag and putting on his clothes. She didn't turn around until she was told to do so.

"I'm done." Gabriel said while wiping his hair with another dry towel. "What is it that bring your feet voluntarily here?"

She stood a few feet from him and handed him the picture. Compared to her previous stubborn and hate towards him, she was being shy and docile right now while showing him their photo.

"How did you get this? I didn't show you the photos earlier." Gabriel spoke before reaching out to get the picture from her.

Winter remained calm and compose despite all the confusions and questions in her mind. "Did we know each other prior to our meeting in the military camp?"

"Hn." was his simple answer. He walked towards his bedside drawer and slid the picture inside. "Is there anything else?"

"Nothing. Nevermind. I was just shocked to see your photo with me. Thanks for confirming." she smiled faintly at him, a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "That's all I have to ask." She turned on her back and walk away. 'I told you! You shouldn't expect anything at all!' she yelled internally to herself. 'You promised not to fall in love again. You better keep your promise and distance yourself.'

She was having an inner monologue as she walked out of the room. Gabriel wanted to chase after her but he didn't know if she had remembered anything. Base on her reaction, it was a complete surprise to see a picture with the both of them but there was no recognition in her eyes. She didn't remember him.

Winter came back to her room with a disappointed expression. She was expecting him to say something about their past now that she saw a picture of them but his reaction wasn't what she expected at all.

She could still remember the day she met him in the military camp during her first day of enlistment. He was shock that she was there but she didn't know him at all. She didn't know what he did but he became friendly of her and started bringing her to places that she hated the most. When she got her heart broken, he would always check on her if she was still fine, monitoring her until she felt so frustrated of him and left, drinking herself to death. If Travis didn't come at that time, she would've died from alcohol poisoning already.

When she found out his identity and connection to the Avery family, she despised him so much and started avoiding him. Whenever she saw him, she would automatically find a way to escape.

There were times that she ended up in his arms and she hated him so much for that. She hated him for kissing her when he didn't love her at all. She hated him for taking care of her because she was a task he needed to care. She hated him for forcing her to remember her past when all it would bring her would be agony and pain.

"I don't want to remember anyone. I don't want to remember the broken promise." she murmured to herself as she sat on the cold floor with her back leaned against the door.

"I hate everyone." she whispered, slowly closing her eyes and slept on the cold floor.

The next moment when she opened her eyes, she saw Gabriel standing at the foot of her bed while talking to a handsome doctor. 'Oh god! It's Brown.' she commented mentally and face-palmed herself.

"What are you guys doing in my room?" she asked them which brought their attention to her.

"See? She's doing fine. She was just exhausted." Brown told Gabriel which made Winter raised her eyebrows.

"C'mon. Of course I am fine. Hurry up and get out of my room already. I want to sleep." she spoke softly before curling her body on the bed to comfort herself. 'You will be fine. No worries.'

"Alright. I'll go out now." Brown left her room in a hurry. He still needed to talk to Jillyanna about his mission.

Leaving the two of them alone, he knocked on the door of Travis and Jillyanna's room. Travis opened the door and let him in.

"I have something to show you." Brown spoke while pulling out his phone. He scrolled through his gallery and found several pictures that she wanted to show her. "Here. Take a look."

Jillyanna took his phone and looked at the photos with Travis. "How did you get pictures of these people. I've heard that they haven't been home per my sources."

"They are the ones I am investigating right now. It was said that they are having illegal human experiments." Brown answered her which widened Jillyanna's eyes.

"Oh god! That must be the reason why they were so bent on getting my mother's research." Jillyanna stated while looking at the pictures. It was her mother's family who was working on a laboratory with different body organs.

"How did you get to work in there?" Travis asked Brown.

"They were looking for a doctor. However, I don't have access to the whole buildings since I am a newbie. I am still under monitoring and close observation. I was only able to come back because it is weekend."

"Be careful always." Jillyanna told him while returning his phone back to him. "They are ruthless and merciless."
