Chapter 157 - Explaining The Auction

The days before the auction went by in a blur. Han Qingshan would be entirely focused on work while Jiang Yingyue would study everything she could.

Everyone at Imperial World had gotten used to her presence; whenever they entered Han Qingshan's office, they would see that she was seated on the sofa, reading something.

When they were home alone, Han Qingshan would be touchy and shameless. He would try to convince her that they could shower together; he even tried to sneak into her bed a few times, but Jiang Yingyue was simply too embarrassed, and they never went further than kissing.

The day of the charity auction came before Jiang Yingyue even knew it. It was a Friday, and Han Qingshan had taken a leave from university and even informed the office that he would not show up that day.

When Jiang Yingyue woke up, she found that Han Qingshan had ordered breakfast for her.

"I didn't know what you wanted," he said gently as he pecked her cheek when he saw her dazed look as she left her room in her nightgown.

Looking at the table, she found a wide variety of dishes. There was tofu pudding, noodles, steamed glutinous rice, wontons, and dumplings.

It was way too much food, but it seemed that whenever Han Qingshan was ordering food, he would always buy a lot out of fear for not having something that Jiang Yingyue felt like eating.

Jiang Yingyue looked at the table and nodded her head. "That's fine," she said happily as she continued towards the bathroom.

She had to wash her hands and face before eating; then she could shower and change clothes afterward.

Han Qingshan quickly put out the plates and chopsticks. He quickly found some coffee and soy milk and waited for Jiang Yingyue to come out and eat with him.

Although he had been officially dating Jiang Yingyue for some time now, they had never gone out together. They had been at work most of the time, and when they weren't at work, they were home.

Now they would be able to go out together, and he would be able to show her off. He could not wait to tell the world that this woman belonged to him.

Jiang Yingyue was still wearing the nightgown when she left the bathroom. She was looking so beautiful that Han Qingshan had to keep a tight hold on himself to not take her into his arms and eat her instead of the breakfast.

After eating, Jiang Yingyue quickly finished her morning routine, and the two of them left the condo and went towards the Han Residence.

On the way, Jiang Yingyue was asking questions about the auction. She had never before been to an auction, neither a charity event, so it was all new to her, and she wanted to understand as much as possible.

Han Qingshan was patient as he explained the ins and out of it and Jiang Yingyue listened intently.

"Everyone has to take their own item with them to the auction and donate it to the charity. Then these items, which have been donated, will be auctioned off. People will not care about the items; they will do what they can to support the charity. But truthfully, they are trying to show off their wealth and make connections with others.

"The ones who have money are expected to spend a lot here, and the ones who are not ranked as high in the hierarchy of the noble families will try to get others to notice them by spending a large quantity of money on this day.

"There will be a banquet after the auction. This is the real reason that people fight for the tickets to this event. It is a place where everyone can mingle and create connections."

Han Qingshan was explaining so patiently that Jiang Yingyue was feeling happy. She had not understood it completely from the beginning, but now she had a much clearer understanding of what it was she was going to attend.

They arrived at the Han residence, and both Jiang Yingyue and Han Qingshan frowned the instant they arrived.

Especially Han Qingshan was surprised and shocked. The entire house had changed their servants and maids. None of the ones who were usually there were present.

The housekeeper, who had been rather hostile last time Jiang Yingyue saw him, was now incredibly polite and friendly.

Could it be that Yan Meilin had replaced them all for the sake of venting her frustrations?

She was not going to ask; this was something that they could deal with themselves. But she still felt happy that she did not have to see those people who had caused her to bleed before.

Jiang Yingyue had not mentioned the episode to Han Qingshan before, so he was incredibly puzzled as to why the servants were suddenly replaced. But looking at their behavior and ingratiating attitudes towards Jiang Yingyue, he got a slight idea.

"Let us go meet Mother," Han Qingshan said as he took Jiang Yingyue's hand and dragged her towards the upper levels of the house.

As they left, the housekeeper looked bitterly at Jiang Yingyue and Han Qingshan, and he shook his head resignedly.

He was not keen on this young woman who had gotten close to his young master, but he had nothing to say.. He was, after all, just an employee, and he was in no position decide on Han Qingshan's partner.
