4 The temple

Mike walked out of the guild and turned left and then he followed the main road up until he found an inn like building with a wooden sign that hang outside with a bed on, he walked in and found himself in what looked like an eating hall with people sitting around drinking in the middle of the day, Miked gave a slight frown as it reminded him of his father.

"Hello, are you looking for a room?"

Mike turned towards the voice that called him and saw a poster girl, she looked to be in her teens and had long brown hair.

"... Yeah can you tell me your prices?"

"Sure! It's 15 for a night and 100 for a week"

Mike gave a nod, right now he had 150 so investing 100 right off the bat made him hesitate, the poster girl noticed this and turned up the charm.

"When you buy a week at a time you get free breakfast otherwise you have to pay for it, it's the best offer in town!"

"... Alright."

Mike gave a sigh and pulled some money out of his pocket and after thinking for a moment he handed two silver coins to the poster girl that gave a smile and ran up to the counter while yelling.

"Mom we got a new customer!"

An older lady walked out from a back room, she also had long brown hair and showed a smile when she saw the girl come running, then she looked at Mike and asked the girl.

"Monica can you show our guest to his room?"

Mike hesitated for a moment before he asked

"Umm … Can I get something to eat first? I would like to go to bed early tonight."

The older lady looked Mike over for a second before she gave a nod.

"Sure, you're an adventurer right? Have you just come back from a long trip?"

Mike gave a nod.

"Yeah I just spent three days in the forest."

The older lady gave a nod.

"I'll get some ready for you in a moment, please have a seat first."

"Okay."

The poster girl ran over to Mike and grabbed his hand and half dragged him towards a table.

"This way mister."

Mike gave a smile and followed after the poster girl and sat down in a seat, then to his surprise the poster girl sat down in front of him and looked at him with a wide smile on her face.

"... Umm can I help you with something?"

"You're an adventure right?"

"Well … Yeah I am."

The poster girl's eyes lit up before she leaned forwards and spoke in a very excited manner.

"Then can you tell me about some of you adventurers?"

Mike thought for a moment before he gave a nod.

"Sure, you see this poncho I'm wearing?"

"Yeah, what kind of beast did the hide come from?"

Mike gave a smile and raised his hand up before he spoke.

"From a wolf this big."

"Amazing!"

The poster girls eyes lit up before she asked.

"So how did you kill it?"

"With this baby right here."

Mike showed off his sacrificial knife to the poster girl that gave a gasp when she saw the knife.

"WOW it looks so cool!"

Mike gave a smile and began spinning the knife around like a toy which greatly impressed the poster girl, he then showed her tricks with the knife until his food arrived, then he put the knife away and got to eating his dinner which consisted of a big piece of brown meat and some unknown vegetables bathed in a sauce of some kind. After eating the surprisingly delicious meal Mike asked the poster girl to show him to his room, the room was on the first floor while it was a little cramped it was a nice room with a table and a chair as well as a nice looking bed and a single window that overlooked the busy street outside the inn. Mike sat down in the bed after he closed the door after himself and gave a sigh. After looking into the empty air for a couple of minutes Mike put down his backpack on the floor and laid down on the bed after he put the knife on the end table beside the bed.

'I should go to bed…'

Mike took off his poncho and pulled up the quilt before he closed his eyes and regulated his breathing, soon he fell asleep...

Next morning Mike gradually awoke to the sound of the bustle outside the window and sat up in bed and stretched before he scratched his stomach and got out of bed as he stifled a yawn.

'It feels like a long time since I have slept that good…'

Mike put on his punch and opened his had which made the sacrificial knife fly into his hand before he grabbed the hilt tightly and walked out of the room, walking downstairs Mike wondered what he should do for the day and gradually got an idea in his head.

'First I'll head to the temple, then I will take a contract from the guild to make some money… But first comes food.'

Mike walked into the eating hall and found it half empty, the people that were there was either eating breakfast or drinking alcohol like a bunch of losers.

'... Just like dad, best not to make eye contact.'

"Ah Mike, good morning!"

Mike looked over and saw the poster girl but struggled to remember her name.

"Good morning, could I get some food?"

"Yes leave it to me, just take a seat!"

Mike sat down as the overhyped poster girl ran out of the eating hall to find some food for him, meanwhile Mike sat down and waited for a few moments before the poster girl returned with a plate of food which she sat down in front of Mike.

"Here you are."

"Thanks."

Mike began eating meanwhile the poster girl sat down across from him and watched him eat with a big smile on her face, when Mike finished eating he thanked her for the food.

"Thanks for the food."

"You are very welcome Mike!"

The poster girl took his plate and walked out to the kitchen Mike gave a nod and walked out of the inn before he walked out on the streets and asked a random person.

"Excuse me, can you tell me where the temple is?"

"Oh sure, just head down this road and then it's on your left."

"Thanks."

Mike walked down the street and sure enough there was a temple like building, Mike walked in and found it looked rather homey with furniture were one could sit in a lobby like room, he then walked over to the reception where a nun like person stood with a clam smile on her face.

"Umm… I was told to head over here but it's my first visit, can you tell me how to level up?"

The nun's smile widened slightly before she gave a slight bow.

"Sure, please follow after me and I will show you the robes."

"Thanks."

Mike followed after the nun further into the temple down a hotel like corridor with lots of doors on each side of the corridor, the nun seemed to pick a door at random and walked into the room, Mike followed after her and walked into the room. Inside the room where rather empty except for a pedestal in the middle of the room where a crystal ball stood on.

"Okay first you put your hand on the crystal ball then you wait for your status to show up."

Mike gave a nod and walked over and put his hand on the crystal ball that soon lit up with an ominous vermilion glow, Mike turned to the nun and asked.

"Is it supposed to do that?"

The nun looked horrified at Mike and with a pale face she yelled.

"DEMON!"

Time slowed down from Mike, he knew the nun had figured out something about him that was detrimental to his health if she shared it with someone else. Without thinking much he lept at her as a red glow shone in his eyes, the nun tried to run out of the door but the knife soon sank into her back before she managed to reach the doorknob Mike then commanded the knife in a low voice.

"[Drink]!"

The nun froze as her blood was drained from her body, soon only a dried up corpse in nun clothes was left in the room along with Mike of course, Mike gave a sigh as he looked at the corpse of the nun.

"Now look what you made me do… Oh well."

Mike quickly thought up a plan but before he began he put his hand on the crystal ball again and waited as it glowed in an ominous vermilion light, soon words appeared mid air:
