Chapter 666 Meet Bruce

"You won't say anything if I didn't ask you?" Milla asked seriously, seemingly aggressive.

"Or what?" Leo squinted almost imperceptibly, and his eyebrows barely lifted. He did not want to recall the past that left a scar on him.

Sensing the change in his mood, Milla stopped asking. Her eagerness was instantly replaced with disappointment. She was a sensible woman. She knew that Leo had someone in his heart, but that person had yet to appear. She let her mind drift back to that evening when Leo was drunk and kept calling a woman's name.

A wry smile formed on her lips. It felt like a thorn in her heart that shot a fierce pang of pain through her. But she was not foolish to ask Leo who the woman was. Their marriage was a sham, anyway. There was no need to take it seriously.

The two-year marriage contract ended in a snap, and all she wanted was to leave quietly. She turned slightly and glanced at the man who was sitting in the driver's seat, but she could not say anything.

In a tea house

Mandy took Nacy to a quaint tea house secluded among trees. As soon as they opened the gate, they could see a small yard and hear the flowing water from a stream nearby. The ambiance instantly made them feel at ease.

"Mr. Xu, you are a promising young man! I wonder if you have a girlfriend." The CEO of a large company sat opposite to Bruce. He was a thick, ruddy-faced man with a half-bald head. It was easy to see that he was a self-made businessman.

Ever since Bruce was appointed to the post of deputy director of the Education Bureau, he had regularly received invitations from a lot of entrepreneurs. Over time, he felt that he could enter the business industry.

"Yes, I do have a girlfriend," he answered timidly. The man was subtly sharing hints of his plan to introduce him to someone.

"My daughter has recently returned from studying in France. She's turning 23 this year and very pretty. I want to introduce her to

She gazed out at the trees surrounding the tea house as she listened to Bruce and Nacy quietly, her mind drifting elsewhere.

The two were having a pleasant conversation. On the other hand, Mandy was quiet for many moments. She was thinking about Lisa, wondering how she was recovering and if she was happy.

While Lisa filled her mind, her phone rang. It was from Colin.

Mandy stood up and walked to the yard, answering the call. Before she could say anything, Colin's urgent voice invaded the air. "Mandy, are you free now? Come to the hospital as soon as possible. Lisa has a high fever again." On the other end of the phone, Colin's calm demeanor was all but gone as he paced back and forth. His expression was a muddle of worry, fear, and heartbreak.

"Okay, I'll be right there." Mandy felt an urgency that brought her to the edge. She quickly retrieved her handbag and bid farewell, ready to rush to the hospital.

"Do you need me to drive you there?" Bruce offered when he saw the fear that scored her pale face.

"No, thanks. I drove here myself. Please take Nacy home instead," she said hurriedly. She could feel her breathing quicken as she left.

'Why is she burning up again? Isn't the fever supposed to be gone now?' She quickly jumped into the car, her mind in a mess.
