Mandy was wide awake after Nathan disconnected the call. She yawned and stretched her stiff body.

"Nathan, are you going to work?" Mandy had speculated that Nathan couldn't miss work as he had skipped work yesterday. He would have the burden of the work of the previous day as well.

"Yeah. You go back to sleep. I can't skip work. There's a shareholders' meeting at our company this morning," Nathan said, unbuttoning his pajamas. He quickly slipped on a shirt and was fussing around with it.

Mandy couldn't help but smile at him. "Let me help you."

She grabbed a tie and carefully slipped it around his neck, smoothing the wrinkles on his shirt. "It's done. You are good to go." Mandy smiled, looking pleased with herself.

Nathan skipped to the bathroom and quickly splashed some water on his face.

He walked out and kissed Mandy on the forehead. "I'm leaving."

"Don't forget to have breakfast," Mandy said as she opened the door. The delicious aroma of food wafted in the air, making their mouths water and stomach grumble.

Madeline had woken up at six o'clock in the morning to make breakfast. She had forgotten to ask what Nathan liked to have for breakfast and had cooked fried rice with eggs, steamed buns, and dumplings, which were Mandy's favorite.

"Good morning," Madeline greeted them with a smile as she continued to cook. Stanley, who was busy reading the newspaper, snapped his head around and smiled at them.

"Nathan, are you going to the company? It's too early, isn't it?" Madeline inquired as she saw that Nathan was dressed up, ready to go to work.

"Yes, there is an early meeting at the company, and I cannot miss it." Nathan smiled.

"You need to eat first. I won't let you skip breakfast," Madeline said sternly as she brought a plate loaded with steamed buns.

"No, thanks, Auntie. I'm running late. I'll just have a sandwich." Nathan smiled gratefully as his eyes flitted to the sandwiches that were loaded on the plate.

Mandy skipped to the kitchen and returned with a quarter of a sandwich and a glass of milk. "You should have breakfast, Nathan." Her face was filled with concern.

''Well, take care, Mand. Don't forget to eat breakfast. Get some rest if you are stil

ut a huge stack of letters. It was a collection of letters that she had received during these years, including the letters Sharon and Daniel had sent to her.

Mandy and Sharon were fond of exchanging letters during primary school. They scribbled little notes, gossip, and secrets to each other almost every day. Some letters were several pages long, while others were concise. But the letters were a part of her childhood memories, an indicator of the intimacy that Sharon and Mandy had shared over the years.

During high school, Daniel and Mandy were crazy about each other and had exchanged love letters frequently. Mandy still had them as she did not have the heart to get rid of them. The blue envelopes that had pictures of the Eiffel Tower had letters that Daniel had sent to her.

A wave of nostalgia washed over Mandy as the letters brought vivid memories of her youth. The letters were not mere pieces of paper but carried emotions. Happiness, sorrow, love, and tears were mingled with the ink, which Mandy could smell even today. As she trailed her finger across the letters, an unknown heaviness resided in Mandy's heart. Two of the most important people in her life were not by her side anymore. She couldn't share her happiness with them like how she once could.

Mandy kneeled and pulled out a big iron box from the cupboard. An exquisite lock was hanging on it, protecting the contents of the box. Mandy had bought the box at a boutique when she was in high school.
