“I have to get out or I’ll be burned alive.” Jing Yue looked at the snake in frustration. But then she gritted her teeth and stared at the window. She swung a teapot at it with all her might. The fire was quenched a bit with the tea at the very moment the teapot hit the window frame.

In the same instant, Jing Yue leaped out of the window with all her strength and the house behind her suddenly collapsed and was soon devoured by flames.

“Ah! My clothes catch fire!” Jing Yue hurriedly rolled herself on the ground and thus the fire on the skirt was put out.

“Jing Yue! Jing Yue!” People outside had expected the worst but all at the very moment their thoughts emerged, Jing Yue made her way out of the burning house and began to roll just before the crowd. Shangguan Linglan rushed to Jing Yue as soon as she spotted her.

“Jing Yue… Jing Yue, are you all right?” Shangguan Linglan put her arms around Jing Yue with tears running down her cheeks.

“Ahem! Ahem!… I’m fine.” Jing Yue felt rather painful from her violent roll on the ground and her foot ached a lot from the fire on her skirt, which made her a bit soberer.

“I’m so worried about you…” Shangguan Linglan whimpered. Jing Yue gave her a hug and said faintly, “I’m ok…”

“Jing Yue!” Just when Jing Yue felt a little dazed, she suddenly heard a very familiar voice. Jing Yue was surprised and then turned to seek in the darkness, from where a man was striding toward her at a rapid pace.

“Xiao Chen… Why are you…” Jing Yue blinked her eyes and was about to ask when suddenly Xiao Chen squatted just next to her with his astounded and frightened dark eyes fixed at Jing Yue, and took her into his arms before Jing Yue could react.

“Xiao Chen…” Jing Yue was so shocked that Xiao Chen had just hugged her, completely ignoring her dirty clothes.

“Sorry, I’m late!” Xiao Chen quivered as he held Jing Yue tightly.

“It’s …ok. I’m fine.” Jing Yue started to be nervous because of Xiao Chen’s actions.

Xiao Chen looked Jing Yue up and down, and unexpectedly lifted her in arms. Jing Yue was so scared that she hurriedly put her arms around his neck and glanced at his face in surprise. Meanwhile, she felt quite embarrassed being publicly embraced like this.

“Shangguan Minhao, you handle the rest.” Xiao Chen turned to a general in armor. Jing Yue was a little surprised since the man seemed to be Shangguan Linglan’s third brother.

“No problem!” Shangguan Minhao looked at Jing Yue who was still in Xiao Chen’s arms, his face changed slightly, but finally lowered his head.

Noticing that those soldiers had already controlled the fire and Xiao Chen was going to leave, Jing Yue hurriedly turned to find Shangguan Linglan, who waved to Jing Yue to show that everything was ok. Jing Yue was then relieved and turned to find Ning Xiangyuan and Liu Miaoqiu, only to find Ning Xiangyuan was just gazing at her. Jing Yue was finally all at ease and smiled at Ning Xiangyuan. However, it was weird that Ning Xiangyuan just stared at her blankly as if she didn’t notice her smile.
