293 More Pain and Hur

"What? Did you just say if you had done this sooner? No father." Owen stood up from his seat.

He was already angry at the way his father shifted the blame. He should not regret this little thing when what he should be regretting something much worse than this if possible.

"Correcting and making Cullen and I close was not the issue. If you had stuck with mother and not followed so many ladies, then you would not have ended up with Erwina and made her pregnant. Worse still, mother wouldn't have died and none of us would be in this mess!"

Bayard could understand his son's anger and knew just mere words would not be able to solve this issue right now.

Owen was too hurt. He had carried this pain all his life and it would take quite a long time to change his heart towards him and forgive him.

"How can a father not consider his actions and how they would affect the life of his own child? Is that love? Do you even care at all? My life has been a mess because of you. I am in this situation because of you. My life was turned upside down and the only love I had ever known taken away too. ALL BECAUSE OF YOU!"

"Owen, I apologize. I am sincerely sorry." Bayard stood up as well and made his way to where Owen was close to the window and stopped a few feet from his son.

"Sorry is not good enough father." Owen's voice came out sharp and full of hurt.

Cullen who wanted more than anything not to be there at that point in time had no choice but to watch the display between both father and son.

He was thinking about how the whole talk suddenly turned sour and into one full of regrets and blames.

He understood from Owen's perspective all too well and it now all became clear as to what had happened why the young prince that was so well talked about and praised turned into who he was today.

It was a sad tale indeed but something was not right too.

Yes, Bayard was more than wrong for his actions and it felt as though he never thought twice before he did what he did.

He basically only thought with the lower part of his body, following the direction of his erection and ended with a vile lady like Erwina, further entrapping himself and his family in her web full of misery.

Bayard could feel every hurt and pain he had caused his son just from his words. Owen was doing it again, pushing him away and shutting his heart to him.

"Owen, please."

"And what did you do that I should forgive you for?" Owen asked as he turned around t face his father, his anger and disgust very evident in his face and eyes.

A dark glint flashed in his eyes as he shot his father a deadly glare. He was already gone, too gone down memory lane to a place he wished he never would visit.

"Forgive me and let me make it right again. Please allow me in."

"So you can cause more hurt? No. I would take my chances and keep this heart of mine locked forever."

"Owen," Bayard's broke at his son's last words. He never would have thought that having the very conversation he dreaded the most with his son to be this painful and torturous.

He knew Owen wouldn't readily accept him, but still, there was a glimmer of hope and Owen was crushing whatever it was that hope was.

"Tell me, father, do I lie? Can you guarantee you would not cause much more pain than you already have?"

Bayard could not give Owen an answer to his question. Not because there was nothing for him to say but because Owen just got to the threshold on his life where things would become tougher than before, especially now that Erwina sees him as a huge threat.

"You see you cannot answer. Give me an answer, father. Can you protect me from the sorrow that is coming and the battles I would face? No."

"I am sorry Owen. I know there is nothing I would say or do that would change anything. And even if I tell you I would not cause you any more pain, it may just be empty promises as you and I know that what is coming may be the biggest battle and challenge you've ever faced in your life and I caused it all to happen."

"I am glad you could get that right. So why should I still let you in?"

"Because…"

"Because he is your father, Owen."

Both father and son turned their head towards Cullen and watched as he got up from his seat and walked toward them.

All this while he had been silent and spoke only just now when the heat was getting worse.

Owen frowned at his friend's intrusion and was about challenging his words when Cullen spoke again.

"Because he is your father, Owen," Cullen stated once more.

"Cullen," Owen started but stopped when Cullen raised his hand to stop him.

"Please wait. Let me speak. It s wrong for a parent to make a child pass through so much because of their inadequacies. But irrespective of what happens, your father is your father and deserves your forgiveness when he truly asks for it."

"Cullen, this is a different case. My whole life was ruined because of him."

"And who said so?"

Owen was shocked by his question. What did he mean by who said so? Wasn't this his life?

"Who said he ruined your life? Your life is in your hands. You have the power to shapen your destiny to whatever and however, you want it. Your father is not the only one who is to blame for how your life turned out."
