“I’ve been extremely busy dealing with Viper. While you have it easy, vanishing for three days.” Ye Wei glanced sideways toward Wu Peng who was by the door.

Wu Peng observed Ye Wei as if he had seen a ghost, “Are you the General Hua I know? To think that you have learned to complain!”

Ye Wei immediately regretted her words after she said them. She might have been under too much pressure lately and had no way to let off steam.

Coincidentally, Wu Peng had come over with a smile, and Ye Wei found it convenient to complain then.

Seeing that Ye Wei was feeling a little down, Wu Peng immediately toned down his hardy attitude. “Are there still no developments regarding Viper?”

“They do not leave behind any loose holes in their operations. Currently, the law enforcers still have to send men to guard the satellite stations. We do not have extra manpower to head out to search for clues.” Ye Wei leaned back into her chair and slowly closed her eyes. She looked extremely tired.

Wu Peng had wanted to tell her about the crystallized meteorite but did not say anything when he saw how tired Ye Wei was.

Additionally, he could not explain how he managed to kill a three-man team from Viper alone.

With Ye Wei’s intelligence, she would be able to deduce that the person who killed the members of Viper the other night was also him.

Wu Peng did not wish to become the center of attention and had always hidden his strength.

After all, those who stood out too much would often become the target of an attack and be destroyed first.

The room slipped into silence as neither of them spoke. Both of them were immersed in their thoughts.

A moment later, a law enforcer barged into the room and broke the silence. “Captain! There has been a murder in the east of the city. A personal shelter has been broken into and a family of three has been murdered.”

“Got it.” Ye Wei opened her eyes. The dejected expression on her face had disappeared, and her icy-cold attitude appeared once again.

Wu Peng was a little curious when he saw Ye Wei straighten her uniform and prepare to head out. “Does a captain like you need to head down to the scene of an ordinary murder?”

Even though the murder of a family of three was a very pitiful event, it would have become the top headline if this had been before the apocalypse. However, in this post-apocalyptic world, people died every day.

Now that Viper was acting from under the shadows, Ye Wei should remain in the base to command the operation.

“It can’t be helped. The elites have all been sent to protect the station. The rest of the members can fight, but they are completely useless when it comes to solving cases.” Ye Wei was also very frustrated. The ordinary law enforcers were basically given a death sentence if they were assigned to deal with Viper. The station would also be destroyed in the process.

She could only send the most elite law enforcers from the base to protect the station and Ye Wei had to personally head to the scene if there were any other cases.

“Then let me follow along.” Wu Peng did not want Ye Wei to take on too many things alone. He would have to face Viper alone if she succumbed to fatigue.

Ye Wei also wanted Wu Peng to follow but was too embarrassed to voice out the request before Wu Peng did.

Since Wu Peng had volunteered to follow, she took advantage of the situation and agreed to his request.

She brought four other law enforcers along. The group got into a vehicle and drove toward the eastern part of the city.

At the scene, Wu Peng looked around with his binoculars after he got out of the car.

Some murderers liked to loiter around the scene after they committed the act. They wanted to see how the people who saw the corpses reacted.

Ye Wei also knew this and asked, “Did you spot anything?”

“Nothing abnormal. I think that the culprit had fled far away,” Wu Peng answered.

Under Ye Wei’s command, the four law enforcers took out three body bags and a camera, before they headed into the crime scene.

Wu Peng scanned the surroundings again after he entered the shelter.

This was a rather simple shelter, not even 10% as sophisticated as his own. There were a total of three rooms, and the three corpses were lying in the outermost room.

Two of the law enforcers entered the room and began to search through their items, while the rest of the team began a simple examination of the corpses.

One of the law enforcers dragged the corpses away one by one for easier observation while the other law enforcer started to take pictures as a record.

Ye Wei squatted down and started to examine the wounds on the corpses. “There are a total of three victims, two male, and one female. One of the males is roughly 45 years old and has three gunshot wounds on his chest.”

Ye Wei got one of the law enforcers to flip the corpse around so that she could examine his back.

“There are also three penetrative wounds at the back. They are likely caused by the bullets piercing through his body.” Ye Wei gave a very detailed explanation. It seemed as though she intended to teach the two law enforcers how to examine a corpse for injuries.

Wu Peng started to look through the furniture and decorations in the shelter. He could mostly understand the wounds on the corpses at a glance.

Just at this moment, a law enforcer who had headed into the room to check out the situation ran out.

Ye Wei gently knitted her brows, “You’ve finished checking whatever is inside?”

“I’m sorry, Captain. I’m having a nosebleed. I can’t stop it no matter how I try. Do you have tissues with you?” the law enforcer asked quickly, feeling embarrassed.

The rest of the group looked toward the law enforcer’s face. They saw that blood was constantly flowing out of his nose through his protective gear as if it was a tap.

“Haha!” The two other law enforcers could not help but laugh when they saw how embarrassing their partner looked.

Ye Wei felt a little embarrassed, especially in front of Wu Peng.

“It’s just a little nosebleed, why are you so flustered? Head out and remove your protective gear to deal with it. Don’t contaminate the crime scene,” Ye Wei said coldly before the law enforcer quickly ran out of the shelter.

After this brief interlude, Ye Wei continued to examine the corpses.

“This man is roughly 15 years old. He…” Ye Wei was halfway into her report when the other law enforcer ran out.

“What happened to you? Are you also having a nosebleed?” Ye Wei’s tone was filled with anger.

The law enforcer first nodded and then shook his head. He ran out of the shelter without saying anything.

Wu Peng felt that it was strange and ran out with him.

When he came outside the shelter, he saw the law enforcer just now remove the helmet of his protective gear and vomit blood.

Wu Peng quickly ran to the car and handed him a towel. “What’s wrong with you guys? What’s inside the room?”

The law enforcer who had been having a nosebleed finally stopped the bleeding. He panted as he said, “I don’t know either. I was investigating the room when I suddenly felt nauseous and my nose started to bleed continuously.”

The law enforcer who had vomited blood could finally speak normally. “I also felt dizzy and discomfort in my chest. There was a metallic stench in my mouth and ran out when I could no longer tolerate the discomfort.”

“Dizzy and a metallic stench in your mouth?” Wu Peng mulled over the descriptions that the two law enforcers had given him. He seemed to have heard about these symptoms before.

Ye Wei also came out. Even though she was furious that her two subordinates had messed up, she was still concerned about their health.

After she saw that the two of them had become better, Ye Wei arranged for them to rest outside while she headed back into the shelter to search the area.

Wu Peng suddenly remembered something when he saw Ye Wei’s back and shouted, “Don’t go back in!”

He charged into the room and dragged Ye Wei and the two other law enforcers out of the shelter without explaining anything.

“What’s going on?” This was the first time Ye Wei had seen Wu Peng flustered.

“It’s radiation! There’s strong radiation in the shelter!” Wu Peng shouted.
