Chapter 461 - Day MCMXXXVII, Part I

This happened probably because I went to sleep so early, but just as I woke up, and managed to eat something Tihana also got on her feet, and she just wouldn't stop talking about how cool the Uhms' language sounded to her.

- They are going uuooohuu, uuaaaaaaooo, uaaaeeee - she tried to imitate the sounds, sticking her lips out, and moving her jaw strangely.

- You just said, that your uncle eats grass -  I informed her.

- Really? - she seemed all happy about that.

- No, you dummy. You spoke nothing.

- Hmpf - she pouted.

I on the other had returned to eating my canned tuna. During my travels, it was one of my favorite foods.

- Eat your breakfast - I told her, with a full mouth.

Grimacing, and mocking me with her body language, she grabbed her food and started eating. Unfortunately for us, we were interrupted by Vladimir Fedorov who came, holding a voice recorder in one of his hands.

- Good morning - he said smiling. - Forgive me for coming this early, but I would like to take an opportunity and interview one of the aliens. I would like to take some word samples if that is ok?

I nodded since I couldn't really speak. He needed to wait a moment until I chewed everything I had in my mouth.

- Ok, I'll ask them.

- Thank you - he said, smiled awkwardly, and then left.

- Wow, you really scared the shit out of them - said Tihana after he was outside of hearing range. - He is still afraid, even after this long.

I shrugged my shoulders.

- I wonder how they would react if you would turn the world into that black windy mess, and summon the monsters.

- Let me take a wild guess... Worse?

- They would all faint. I'm telling you - she said with a grin on her face.

- Stop thinking of flexing your father, kid.

- Who is flexing? - asked Nil, as he came out of nowhere.

- Stop sneaking on us - I told him.

- I didn't. I just walked here - he informed me. - I couldn't listen to the fangirling egg-heads anymore. They are going crazy over those aliens.

- It's repeating itself - said Ki'rai, as she popped from behind him, with disgust painted all over her face. - I thought they were cured, but it looks like they are going through that phase again.

- Phase? - asked Tihana.

- Yes, a phase. They did the same when they first saw me and the others - she informed. - They wanted to talk to us, touch us, or even examine us. They were mad, and it's repeating itself.

- It's called fascination - I explained to her.

- How does one stop it? - he asked me.

- There are two ways - Sanders answered before me. - You can either wait it out, they will eventually get bored of the new thing, or you might kill them.

Ki'rai showed her teeth in a nasty grin and pulled out her knife.

- Wo, wo, wow! Stop! - I quickly shouted. - Put the knife back in the sheet, and don't listen to him.

- They need to stop - she insisted.

- I'll talk to them, ok?

Her eyes got narrow as she looked at me.

- Fine - she said and left.

- You moron! - I hissed at Nil, as soon as she was gone. - Don't say things like that to her! She is gonna do it!

He was just laughing.

- It's not funny.

- Ok, relax. She knows that.

- The aliens are coming - said Tihana, standing up, to see better. - I think you should go there, dad.

I sighed and went to the front of our little camp, where two big Uhms were slowly walking towards us. Both in the bamboo hats, and supporting themselves with canes made out of the whole tall flowers.

I managed to get there just as they did. A group of researchers quickly gathered behind us, to listen to the conversation, which was dumb, since they couldn't understand a thing.

The other hunters weren't as interested, except Ki'rai, and Martin, who were just nearby.

- Good morning, humans - said Ooah. - This is my brother Humma.

I don't want to be racist, but for me, they looked almost the same. Probably because I wasn't used to their strange physique. The big black, and pupilless eyes. round faces with prominent cheekbones, big flat noses, thick lips, and green skin. Not to mention, they had no necks!

I remembered Ole wearing a dirty light brown cloak. The same thing Ooah was wearing yesterday, but today their attire changed. They had something similar to a bathrobe on, tied in the front. The material seemed to be quite harsh in touch, but to their thick skin, that wasn't probably much of a problem. Probably something more elegant in their culture.

- Good morning. I'm Peter, and this is Hailwic - I introduced us to the new guy. - Only we can speak your language here, so those are two names you should know.

- I'll be your guide from now on. You should speak with Naalaa first. She is the head.

- Very well. Let us pack our things first.

- No, no. No need to rush. Take your time - said Ooah. - Let's drink a mug of Uuuun's milk first.

- Uuuun? - I asked.

- That's this animal - said Hailwic, and pointed further at the strange creatures I noticed yesterday.

- Yes, that's this animal. Come. Uuuun's milk is very good - said Ooak, and invited us with a gesture of a hand.

There was a bit of a commotion to make everybody come with the two aliens, but we managed to gather people somehow. Even those who didn't want to leave our camp completely unprotected.

I wasn't worried about that, since I already had witnessed the kind-hearted civilization of those creatures. Not to mention all the stories of them I read in the books.

No matter what, they always remained peaceful, and were often victimized in Bahumdabars' literature. This led me to produce my own stereotypes of them, and also made me very interested to witness how things were for real among them.

Ooah, and Humma led us all to one of their homes, the giant egg-shaped building.

- Welcome to my home - he said to us and opened the door, to let everybody in.
