388 Weekend in Sin City 4

Max was not sure if Quentin is lying to him or to himself. "Is she?"

"Of course, Bri is fine with Kendra as my assistant. Why wouldn't she be? Since Bri moved in with me, Kendra didn't step into my place and she is staying away from anything that is related to Brianna unless I ask her for something explicitly."

"Oh? And why do you think that change happened?", Max asked mockingly and noticed that Quentin's expression shifted. "Q, you have your answers. Bri is not fine with Kendra. If Bri is serious about your relationship, she will not be OK with another woman sticking close to you. You should know that women don't voice their grievances until it's too late. Some women never explain what is troubling them; they just leave. If you want this thing between you and Bri to last, don't wait until it's too late."

Quentin exhaled. "What should I do? If I keep things as is, it's not good. And if I fire Kendra, it will only be proof that something is fishy."

Max picked up a hint of guilt behind Quentin's words. "Is it fishy? Q?"

Quentin glanced at the door, to confirm that it's closed, before responding: "Since I met Bri, I didn't touch another woman."

Max narrowed his eyes suspiciously. "That was not my question, Q. You are playing dumb, so let me dumb it down for you: did you ever have sex with Kendra?"

Quentin's two seconds of hesitation were enough for Max to understand.

"Q… what are you doing?"

Quentin shrugged. "It was a long time ago and it does not mean anything."

"I suggest that you don't share this information with Bri. Unless you want to get into a fast lane for a breakup."

Quentin was frustrated. "Max, I am not a saint. I never claimed that I was. And neither is Bri. We both have a past, and we are fine with it."

"Saint or devil or anything in between, we are all equal when in a relationship. Didn't you tell me that Bri was worried if you will be faithful? Bri came to Seattle because of you and moved into your apartment. She agreed to work with you so that Harper Investments can open a branch in Seattle. I don't see any guys on her list of friends, and when we go out, her eyes are only on you. Did you forget how much effort you put in order to reach here? Why are you playing? Is keeping Kendra worth risking Brianna?"

"M, you know that I would do anything for Bri. But why are you making it sound that having Kendra as my assistant is risking my relationship with Bri? Kendra is in the past, with many others, and we are strictly professional."

Max patted Quentin's shoulder. "If it's in your past, it should stay there the moment you decided to commit to Brianna. How can you say that Kendra is in the past if she calls you on a Friday evening?"

Max left the balcony and Quentin stared blankly at the lights of the Las Vegas strip below.

Quentin tried to think about him and Bri and if any guy ever came close to Bri and made him uncomfortable since they started dating and Quentin confirmed that there was none. Exes or not, Brianna made sure to keep all men away from her, unless it's work, and it was limited to work hours. Now he really felt like a jerk.

The truth is that the thing with Kendra was an on-off thing a long time ago and it was just hookups without actually dating, at least for Quentin. Why would he date an average-looking woman when he had plenty of models to choose from? And even those models were forgettable because there were too many of them.

Quentin pushed his fling with Kendra at the back of his mind because for the last few years he does not see Kendra like that, and Kendra was always professional. If Quentin showed interest, would Kendra spread her legs for him? Quentin is not sure about that, but it's possible. However, for Quentin, Kendra is so irrelevant as a woman, that if Max didn't ask him now directly if he ever slept with Kendra, Quentin would not think about it at all. Why did it suddenly become important? Quentin does not understand. Is it only because of one phone call?

The more pressing matter right now is Brianna. Is she angry? Is she blaming him? Is she suspecting him? What if she asks about Kendra? What should he say? He does not want to lie to her, but saying the truth sounds suicidal.

Quentin remembers the stiff atmosphere when he returned to the room after the phone call, and for some inexplicable reason, Quentin felt like a cheater.

"Hey…"

Quentin froze when he heard Brianna's voice.

"We are done with food and are wondering when you will end your… whatever you are doing. Should we wait for you or leave?"

Quentin didn't turn to face her, but he could hear that Brianna is upset. What happened with the good mood? It seems that all that disappeared the moment he picked up Kendra's call.

"Are we not talking now?", Brianna asked when she saw that Quentin is still staring toward the street below.

"Do you think that I am cheating on you?", Quentin asked.

"The more you act like this, the more I believe that there is something going on.", Brianna said with impatience in her voice.

Quentin clenched his teeth. Is she really suspecting him? They are spending all the time together unless they are at work. Isn't that enough of proof that he is faithful? Maybe not if she believes that he is cheating while he is at work.

Brianna was irritated with Quentin's lack of response. She snorted. "You know what? I'm going back to the hotel with others. You can come whenever you are done but don't take too long, because I might not be there."

Quentin inhaled sharply and turned toward the door, only to see that Brianna is not there anymore.

His heart sunk. This weekend is getting worse by the minute.

"What are you doing? You moron…", Quentin grumbled at himself.

'SLAP!'

Quentin slapped himself harshly and the sharp pain awakened all his senses. He rushed into the private room and panicked when he saw that Bri and the others are not there. Two servers were collecting the used plates and utensils, and there was no sign of Brianna.

He rushed outside and down the hallway and saw the last bit of the elevator door closing before it headed down.

Quentin didn't have time to think and he didn't want to wait for the elevator to come back up, so he ran toward the staircase exit.
