372 Guests from Idaho 2

Name:Accident Prone Author:RedSonia
"We were thinking of taking you out for dinner, but since you have doctor appointments in the morning, we thought this will be more convenient as you need to rest.", Sabrina explained why they are eating at home. She was confident that guests would love to see Seattle, but she also thought about what would be practical. "Maybe tomorrow we can have dinner out and we can go somewhere after that?"

"Don't worry about it.", Cynthia assured her. "This is perfect."

Sabrina was happy that they seem to be OK with the current arrangement and she wanted them to be aware of how this is only for the first day.

"In the morning, Ashton will go to University because he needs to work, but I will accompany you to the hospital. My future sister-in-law (aka Elizabeth) will be there to make sure everything goes smoothly. She works in the hospital as a neurosurgeon. When you are not busy with doctors, depending on your availability and interests, we can go sightseeing, eat out, or go to one of many clubs. I would love to show you my design studio, and my parents hope that we can all join for dinner over the weekend. We can…", Sabrina started laying out options and she saw that Cynthia and Adam are not very excited. She paused. "Or… do you have something else planned? If you don't like something, feel free to speak up."

"No, no…", Cynthia raised her arms defensively. "Everything is perfect, and we are grateful that you are having us here and that you are considerate about entertaining us, but we are nervous about this doctor's visit, and other than hoping for a miracle, we didn't think about anything else. Please, don't take it as an offense. Can we talk about other things later?"

Sabrina nodded in understanding. They didn't come here for a vacation. Well, Angela looks excited about her time in Seattle, but Cynthia and Adam are worried about the results of the upcoming tests and how it might impact their future.

"Don't worry about me.", Sabrina assured Cynthia. "We hope that your stay here is pleasant and if there is anything we can do, let us know."

Ashton decided to break the atmosphere which was getting heavy. "How are things at home? I thought that Holly will come as well."

Angela bobbed her head and a grin spread on her face. "You should see the tantrums. There was at least one a day since I announced that I'm going to Seattle. But no matter how much she is sulking, her school started, and she can't afford to miss it, especially because we don't know how long we will stay…"

Holly is the youngest of the Grant siblings and still going to high school.

Sabrina assured Cynthia and Adam that they can stay as long as they need. The guest bedrooms are unoccupied anyway, and Ashton is delighted that with those three visiting, Sabrina will not be left on her own at home while he is at work.

As much as Ashton hopes that his brother and Cynthia can conceive a child soon, he also hopes that they will stay in Seattle longer… at least until April, when Sabrina will give birth because he puts Sabrina first, and he is a bit selfish when it comes to her.

After dinner, Angela asked Sabrina to elaborate on all the things they can do in Seattle, and Cynthia joined them with the hope to get distracted enough not to think about tomorrow's exam.

Adam wanted some air, and Ashton suggested that they step out on the balcony.

It was a chilly evening which is expected, considering that it's January, but Adam refused a jacket.

Ashton observed his brother and decided to address the pressing topic which Adam seems to be avoiding.

"You are stressed about tomorrow."

Adam pursed his lips and glanced at the back, to make sure Cynthia is out of the earshot.

"Yes, I am. Cynthia wants a child." Adam let out a heavy sigh and stared into the darkness in front while speaking in a broken voice: "What if something is wrong with me? Will she leave me?"

Ashton was worried about Adam, and he wanted to assure him that everything will be fine, but Adam would know those are just empty words because Ashton can't predict the future. However, there are other ways for Adam to see that his fears might be unreasonable.

"Will you leave her if something is wrong with her?"

Adam's head snapped toward Ashton. "Of course, not."

"Does she know that?"

"What?"

Ashton gave Adam a knowing look. "Every time you mention this issue, both of you are sulking about not having a child, like it's the end of the world."

Adam snorted. "Easy for you to say. You got Sabrina pregnant without even trying."

Ashton was offended by this remark. "Adam, this is not about having babies or not. It's about you making Cynthia feel inadequate, and I know how that feels. I mean… look at this place. It's Sabrina's. She is beautiful, and smart, and capable, and I don't have anything of value to add because she already has everything. I feel like I am weighing her down, and I am concerned that one day she will realize that and dump my sorry ass. It is funny that I dreamt about Sabrina for years, and now that she is finally in my embrace, I fear that she will leave me because I am not good enough. I am painfully aware that she relies on me not because she needs me, but because she chooses to be with me. I thought that getting married will give me the confidence I was lacking, but it didn't. I still see Sabrina as someone who is too good for me and the only thing I can do is to worship her with the hope that will be enough."

Adam was reminded that everyone has their own problems. "Sorry, Ash it's just… I'm stressed. I thought that accepting to see a doctor will fix some things, but with every passing minute, I am freaking out more. I don't know if I can go through this."

"You need to keep it together, for Cynthia, because she is going through the same. I am confident that you will brave this storm and it will be fine as long as the two of you stick together. Did you talk about other options? What will you do if you can't have children?"

Adam shrugged and shook his head, indicating that they didn't talk about it and that he has no idea what to do if the doctor gives them the bad news.

"Adam, I know you love each other. Don't tell me that your happy future depends on having a child because the two of you have a lot in common. I remember when you started dating, part of me was jealous that you found someone who lights you up and I craved to find my other half. Don't allow this to tear you apart."

"What do you suggest?"

Ashton shrugged. "I'm not an expert but… maybe you should talk with Cynthia about other options before you hear the results of the tests. In that case, you will know that whatever comes next was not forced because of the medical issues."

Adam didn't respond. He looked blankly at the busy streets of Seattle below and he didn't notice when Ashton went inside.

Adam was startled when Cynthia hugged him from behind.

"You will catch a cold if you keep on standing here.", Cynthia said in a soft voice.

Adam put his hand over Cynthia's that rested on his chest. "Tia… if something is wrong with me, I will not blame you if you leave me."

Cynthia pulled her hands away from Adam and took a step back. "Is that what you think of me?"

"I know that you want a baby of your own and if I can't give you one, then…", he didn't finish his sentence."

"Adam… look at me…", Cynthia demanded in a shaky voice.

Adam turned and met her tear-stricken cheeks.

He reached and wiped her cheeks with his palms. "I'm sorry, Tia, but I don't want to tie you up if I can't make you happy."

"You stupid man…", Cynthia sobbed. "I want a baby with you. I can find a way to be happy without a baby, but I can't be happy without you…"

Adam felt that something cracked inside him. He made a step toward Cynthia and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her in a tight hug.

"I feel the same.", he spoke with his lips pressing against her forehead.

Cynthia wanted to look up at her husband, but he tightened his hold on her and his small shivers told her that he is crying and that he does not want her to see him like that.

She buried her face at the crook of his neck, and they both cried in silence, releasing the stress that built up over the years.
