Chapter 185 - Reunion

Although his determination and courage kept him moving towards what he believed to be the exit, Ethan saw as at every step, not only the house, but also the neighbouring homes were being swallowed up into the uttermost nothing and, having the possibility to look up at the sky, Ethan saw it wasn't of the usual blue colour, and that especially the sun, or the moon, weren't present.

'As I thought, this can't be the real world'

Having a second confirmation that the world he was in wasn't real, Ethan was this time puzzled, as from what he remembered it wouldn't take more than a few more steps to reach the door of the room, but also proceeding beyond, nothing seemed to be changing.

With no access to aid from the system, Ethan was faced with a choice. He could continue to walk forward, looking for an exit, but following this idea without analysing the situation seemed too rash.

Upon reaching this conclusion, Ethan paused for a moment. Although there were various things he wanted to confirm, first Ethan looked down and, noticed that his feet wasn't actually holding on to anything, but that nothing seemed to hold him anyway to not fall...

'This should be another effect of my Divinity...'

He wasn't sure whether this was the effect of his divinity or not, but from what he had understood, with this power he was able to make anything vanish, without special conditions, or at least not that he could see them at the time, but the thing that most worried him, was the time when his divinity had previously devoured all his memories, emotions and feelings to the point of reaching his very soul.

'If I continue further..this is what will happen to me..?'

Even though Ethan didn't realize last time that his divinity had come to that point, Ethan was now perfectly aware of himself, proof that his divinity no longer had the same effect on him as before, or at least up to a certain limit, But the fear of losing all of his memories forever was something that frightened Ethan far more than the likelihood of his soul being devoured.

But even if that was the case, Ethan decided to continue towards the direction he was walking to before. Although the divinity would try to steal his memories, Ethan would never allow it to prevail on this front, although it was able to ravage an entire world as if nothing had happened, that didn't matter to Ethan. With only a few steps, what used to be Orario was now just a desert wasteland, but Ethan ignored it all and continued to walk towards his goal.

Soon after, however, the first effects began to appear in Ethan's mind.

'Wait, what was I...'

It only took one step after this determination had made its way into his thoughts to make part of his memories disappear, which had destabilized Ethan, who by blinking once, had found himself in a place not coincident with his last memory.

Of course, left alone with a part of his memories, as if suddenly everything around him had dissolved, Ethan was scared and had no idea what to do, but it was just when he was about to succ.u.mb to despair that a light was created out of nowhere in front of him.

Although he had no idea what was going on, Ethan could feel how from the bright light, a familiar warmth enveloped his body. This feeling calmed him down a little, but this wasn't enough to stop his heart beating wildly or to calm his breath but, surprised once again by the strange light, It began to move toward what was the direction he was going in before he lost his memory.

'S-Should I...follow this..strange light...?'

Looking at it more closely, Ethan realized he had no way of describing the colour of this light, in fact it had so many colours put together that it was almost indescribable and, almost driven by an imaginary force, he began to follow the strange light.

This didn't last long though. In fact, after only a few steps, Ethan saw how the light increased in intensity and expanded, but strangely, it wasn't enlarging in oval form, but the figures of a person were quickly being built. Soon after, he was shocked for the umpteenth time. That mysterious light, wasn't a 'light' at all but rather a physical body, and this was proven by the fact fractures began to appear over what was the figure of a woman.

Witnessing how the fractures began to 'break' what was only a layer covering the figure of the woman, Ethan saw how in the span of time equivalent only to a few seconds, all the light previously emitted dissolved along with that outer layer covering her, but even more surprisingly, Ethan saw she didn't seem to have a normal skin colour. It was as if a set of colours continued to appear and form on the body of the woman in question, and Ethan didn't take long to understand, that this woman was beyond ordinary.

"What an impudence! Try to take control of the body this deity created only for a single person!"

With these words, the woman slammed her foot on what was to be nothing but, in less than an instant, Ethan saw how now he and the mysterious woman were in a room unfamiliar to him.

'W...What..?'

Although confused, Ethan understood that the woman was here to help him, but he didn't remember ever seeing such a deity, but it was with this very thought that he remembered what Light had told him about the person who had created his body, and if that wasn't Light, The only option left was...

"T-The Goddess of Souls..Qienta!?"

Letting these words out of his mouth, Ethan shut it immediately afterwards knowing he couldn't casually call her name and that perhaps using the honorifics was a must, although honestly it wasn't something he liked to use, But while he was ready to apologize for the casual way he called her name, Ethan saw how the one he believed to be Qienta had a smile on her face, a kind of smile that made him feel a set of strange and different emotions, but the most important one, was strangely sadness.

"Indeed, I am the Goddess of Souls, surprised to see me?"

When asked, Ethan didn't know what to answer. He had no idea what was going on or where he was, and this was also remembered by Qienta who, with an 'Ah', snapped her fingers giving back to Ethan the memories that had been taken from him before by his divinity.

Blinking again, Ethan remembered everything that had happened and, gasping, he felt strangely weak, but before he could ask for explanations, Qienta added

"...You see, I have a lot to explain to you, but first..."

Making a bed appear as if nothing had happened, Ethan was surprised for the umpteenth time, but understanding the intentions of the goddess, he laid on the bed while he noticed how it seemed to be many times softer than the one on which he was previously with Lefiya..

From his reaction, Qienta's smile expanded slightly as a thought made space in her mind..

'Seeing you laying on this bed without knowing it's you who built it is more painful than I thought...'

Shaking her head to avoid this kind of thoughts, Qienta knew she couldn't reveal what had happened between them, or at least this wasn't the right time. Ethan wasn't yet ready to accept the truth and at the same time live his life to the fullest...just because Qienta knew Ethan's personality better than anyone else.

"Now that you can rest a little, I think you have many questions to ask, but first, let me take care of the insolent who dared to act out of its league..."

Seeing her chanting a spell, Ethan saw how chains appeared out of thin air and immediately they came to stop what was his divinity and, in a few seconds, Ethan saw how the chains wrapped in a spherical shape around a spot in what was his room....

'Wait. She previously said something like my divinity was trying to...take over my body!?'

With his eyes that were widened in perfect circles, Ethan couldn't contain his amazement, to the point of asking the goddess if the divinity really tried to attempt such a thing, and much to his surprise, the atmosphere around the Goddess seemed completely changed. What until a second ago seemed to express warmth from all pores, now had an air of full fury around her, with her expression that was balanced to her aura.

"Yes. Explaining it from the beginning may take longer than expected, but to explain it briefly, your divinity has its own personality and will as your body is similar to an Ancestor God's. The fact you managed to pass the trial should have been enough to let you have a sort of contract with the divinity in due time, but the latter has just tried to attempt your soul, to the point I had to intervene to avoid it..."

Continuing his explanation, Qienta explained to Ethan that the actual use of the skill [Qienta's Blessing] was precisely to avoid this kind of event. And even though it was difficult for Ethan to understand, the skill could only be activated under certain conditions, and it seemed the foolish divinity who had tried to devour Ethan ignoring the contract indirectly established by the two had met all the requisites for her to materialize.

"In a nutshell...are you just the result of the skill Qienta gave me before taking me into the world...?"

When asked, the smile returned to Qienta's lips, this time even brighter than before.

"That's the most interesting part. The answer is yes and no, as you said, I am part of a skill that the real me assigned you as a precaution, but on the other hand, I am completely connected to the true spirit of Qienta, and doesn't that mean that I am also identifiable as the real Qienta?"

Saying this, Ethan met her eyes for a second while thinking about it, but that was enough to realize even though he hadn't noticed it much before, Qienta seemed to be much prettier than what he expected from the strongest goddess that could exist in all the universes created until then...
