Chapter 150 - Success

Deciding to do as Riveria had suggested, Ethan opened the book before noticing something he hadn't noticed before.

It was indeed true that once a space of 30 words was filled, the page was "used" and defined as "unusable", but this definition was something Ethan hadn't put enough thought in, and that was only now shown to his eyes, that he could also write fewer words on the page, and that the remaining amount would be added to the next "page".

But that wasn't important at the time, so he decided to use his [Hon'yaku-sha] again to tell what he wanted her to know.

Thinking for a moment about the shape of the object, Maple couldn't clearly remember where she seemed to have heard a similar description or where she had seen something that matched it, but she decided instead of worrying about this, to think about the 'other part of the words Ethan had written, in which there was indeed a rudimentary 'solution' to the problem afflicting them...

The fact she was supposed to write led Maple's expression to become more serious as she recalled that writing was one of the things she still had to delve into in detail.

This is because the younger foxes were first trained to be able to speak correctly, which will serve much more during the various receptions and meetings, while writing was then deepened in the following years, so that foxes would be 'truly' nobles at the age of 14-15 years old.

But she, knowing she had no other choice, nodded to make it clear everything was fine for her as Riveria took a sheet and a pen while Ethan picked up Maple, so he could put her on the table where she would have written.

With the situation unfolding before them, Ais stood by and watched as Riveria added

"Lefiya come here, I'll explain quickly why you weren't able to see what I saw while Ethan and the fox communicate"

Never wasting an opportunity to teach something new and especially useful, Riveria said these words before Lefiya, feeling called into question, winced before nodding as she gave Ais one last look before walking to Riveria...

"Ais, if you want you can look closer"

That was all Ethan could say since he didn't think there was any other way to involve her, but even if this was the case, Ais nodded with a smile, and as soon as it was seen by Ethan, it was reciprocated with a smile of the same intensity while she hurried to approach him to see more closely what Maple was writing.

With these small events unfolding one after the other in front of her, Maple had just managed to pick up the pen in her hand. This is because the first flaws of having to use a pen completely different from the one she had always used was significant, given the difference in weight, shape, and material used for the production, but Maple wasn't discouraged by so little, in fact she was promptly trying to write and, barely succeeding in doing so, she immediately noticed the pen she was using was too light...

But this was also due to the little experience in writing that made it difficult to 'understand' how to write properly.

Seeing Maple was having such difficulty in writing, Ethan was thinking of a way to help her while Riveria, expecting such a result, sighed in her mind before returning to the short explanation she was telling Lefiya..

Ethan had confirmed, shortly before entering Riveria's room, that although the World 1999 shop was open, almost all areas were blocked, if not the one that had been unlocked to save Maple. And even though this made him doubtful again, he decided to ignore his conflicting feelings about the shop as he tried to think of a pen that might be able to make Maple comfortable to writing.

[The host doesn't have access to the d.e.s.i.r.ed area]

Sighing this time loudly enough that everyone else in the room heard him, Ethan approached Maple before laying a hand on her paw to make her understand he would have somehow helped.

Seeing this, she responded by nodding because a help could only do her well while she finally decided to think about what to write precisely. She already knew she had to incorporate information like her name and age, but she wanted to ask so many things, even though the first thing she wanted to start with was when he was going to take her home, and even more important question, if it was possible to go home.

Maple wasn't stupid. It seemed too surreal for her that there was such a developed city she didn't know the structure of, or was never mentioned anywhere. In fact, one of Maple's passions was reading about all kinds of topics in her spare time as she had no friends with whom she could play freely because of the brevity of her break periods during each lesson with the cycle that was repeated until the evening. But also during breaks, Her knowledge increased, and she had been able to deepen her knowledge in many places around the world in 1999, so the fact she had never read of such a style was really weird for her.

Ethan's help had been very helpful to Maple. With someone able to hold the pen much more stably, all she had to do was write the various characters, so in about five minutes she had managed to make Ethan write a little speech of 30 "words" long in her own language.

They were fortunate Euksari was a language that tended to simplify words rather than make them more complicated as it happened in other languages, although the difference was almost non-existent in the case of Euksari as instead of 30 words, 28 or 27 was the total of words in which then the text will be translated...

Once Maple had finished writing, she stopped the pen and following her actions Ethan did the same as she conveyed her intentions by nodding again.

Realizing that she had finished writing, Ethan took a look at the text and although he obviously couldn't read a word of what was written, he could notice the style of the letters wasn't 'light years' from what was used in danmachi, and although this had surprised him, he decided not to think about it for the moment while as soon as his hand rested on the text, a panel appeared in front of him.

[Text can be translated]

It was all there was written, but even those four words of confirmation from the system were enough to make Ethan sigh as he was actually a bit worried such a method might prove to be unusable..

While his thoughts reassured him as they finally had a way to communicate, his joy was interrupted by another panel that placed itself above the last panel.

[Please place the sheet on a page of the book]

Understanding what he had to do, Ethan brought up the [Hon'yaku-sha] again and without hesitation, opened the book to the first page instead of a random one while Ais asked

"Can you translate... what she wrote.?"

To her question, Ethan smiled back at her as he stroked Maple's fur with one hand and held the sheet with the other.

"There's a chance"

In response, Riveria, just after the explanation, decided to see how it was preceding and from Ethan's words, everything seemed to be going well while Lefiya proposed to the latter to approach him to see better, which Riveria had accepted out of her curiosity for the strange book.

By putting the sheet on the page, Ethan had only one thought in his mind

'This is the beginning, from here we can finally fully communicate with each other...'

After all the problems that happened in such a short period of time because of something so 'trivial' as the ability to converse, Ethan felt happy and at the same time a fool for not having thought of something so obvious. The book in fact said he had to be the one who had to translate, and not that the text should have been written necessarily by himself...

But as these thoughts filled his mind, they were all driven away when he could see the book react to words.

Ethan saw that the words were copied across the page, and as if by magic, it quickly became readable to his eyes word by word, as well as to everyone else's eyes in the room except Maple, now close enough to be able to read clearly what was 'composing' in front of them.

After a couple of seconds, the process was completed and everyone could read what Maple had wanted to tell them.

"I would like to start by introducing myself first. My name is Maple, I am 4 years old. I have several questions, but first, I had a dream where a being, helped and bestowed me this symbol saying I should activate it by training. I would like to thank you for the care, and for your kind heart, I will remember it forever… I also have many questions. In which country are we? How far away are we from home? is it possible for me to come back?"

It was certainly more than 30 words. That's because Ethan had discovered another very interesting aspect of the book. That is, two pages could be merged, getting the possibility of writing a 60-word long message inside the book, plus the words added from the other pages where he had written in some cases only 20 or 25 words, had allowed Maple to write such a big message.

Overwhelmed with information, Ethan didn't know what to focus on, and although he would like to think about even the small details of her message, the symbol was certainly the most important thing there was to discuss

"I don't understand what she meant by 'helping' her, but first this being told her to train to be able to activate the symbol, and the fact they are able to interact with the real world through dreams, the latter can only be someone very strong...What do you think about this, Riveria?"

As he said these words, Ethan thought of what to answer for the various questions he had asked him. Having been unknown of his age, Ethan had tried to hide his various doubts, but now that she had claimed to be 4 years old, Ethan felt even more nervous and concerned about the situation in her city.

'As I thought, she's completely unaware of what happened to her city, and she's also asking me to bring her back.. But that's a Dungeon now, taking her there would be a big risk right now as I don't know what kind of thing there may be there, and most importantly, what about her family..'

He had the chance to ask a question about her relatives and ask if they were in town or if they were somewhere else, he had the chance to tell her everything he knew, but he knew well he wouldn't be able to tell her the truth anyway, So he decided, even though it made him feel bad, to lie...
