Chapter 85 - Trouble

Now with his magic ready to be activated Ethan saw that Ais was keeping the Minotaur busy without much trouble while he finally finished his chant.

'I hope this time, with the full version of the chant, I will be able to at least damage it more significantly than before'

Thinking this, Ethan tried again to pierce the Minotaur with the arrows. Evading them all, Ais saw as the Minotaur was certainly more shaken by his attack, but still, it wasn't enough to fully deal with it.

'This monster is highly resistant against physical attacks, magic works better but my [Boost Magic] doesn't work..what does this mean? Is it that my [Boost Magic] isn't magic at all..? I don't even know why I'm thinking about this as it's not what is important right now..'

By dispelling the thoughts that were not needed at the moment, Ethan was now thinking about a way to make the monster dissipate while Ais was determined to finish it once and for all. Activating her [Ariel], she immediately went against it as it roared angrily. Without even time to move his arms to try to lend a blow on her, Ais had already landed a blow on the Minotaur rather heavily.

Seeing how much damage the Minotaur received, Ethan was shocked.

'Why Ais' [Ariel] works as if it was its highest weakness while my [Boost Magic] couldn't even touch him at all? I don't think my technique is too different from hers…'

Understanding something important, he knew it couldn't have been the answer to his question, but..

'Proficiency? Maybe, what I lack is that I don't have enough proficiency with my technique...or it could be one of the possibilities..If it's like this then I would have had no chance to hunt it on my own from the start.'

Even though he had these thoughts in mind, he decided it wasn't really time to bother himself in thinking about a way to hunt it himself as he bit his lips. Chanting his [Sagitta Magica] again, Ethan did some other damage while it tried to use its shield to defend against them as it understood as well the situation wasn't going to be easy for him.

Even though the monster was stronger than most, it didn't mean it was a treat to Ais. If Ethan was alone facing it, he would have had a hard time, but, in the end, this monster was brought to fail.

Without even sparing him a second glance, Ais used her [Ariel] to cut it in two as even the shield was destroyed in pieces in contact with Ais.

'Incredible..Her [Ariel] really is at a higher level..to cut such a though opponent like a piece of paper..'

Gulping, he remembered that he got used to training with her and the fact her [Ariel] had the strength to destroy something he couldn't even scratch highlighted the huge gap between the two.

'I'll have to train even harder to reach her…'

Finding determination in the way she overpowered the Monster, he saw as Ais nodded her head slightly before turning her focus on him as he managed to make a smile.

"It's definitely not a normal encounter. I'm glad we were able to beat it easily. If someone other than us or core members were to face it.."

Hearing him, she knew he was right. The situation surely wasn't normal. For a monster so abnormal to spawn on the 17th floor where it was clearly a floor for a level 2, the situation was clear to both of them.

"Let's return to report this, I don't want to think what will happen if another monster of that tier spawns against another group of our Familia."

Nodding again, Ethan took her hand with his as the two hurried back. Even though they encountered some monsters, the situation was 'normal', something that honestly worried him because, the last time a similar situation occurred, a Dragon spawned.

'If another Dragon should appear, even stronger than the first one, it would be a massacre considering how many are hunting right now…'

Shaking his head to clear these thoughts from his mind, they completely ignored other monsters as they, having passed the boss room, were already on the 18th floor.

Seeing a group that was heading on the 17th floor, Ethan immediately stopped them.

"Wait! I don't advise you to go. We just returned from the 17th floor and there are already abnormalities. One was so strong that I couldn't even make a scratch on its shield. I think it's better that we report this before anyone will be allowed to cross this exit"

With his longed, hurried explanation, the Adventurer looked confused before understanding it was a serious matter. Telling to his group it was better to not risk, he decided to head back as Ethan nodded his head before adding

"If you see other groups heading towards other floors, please stop them from trying to enter the 17th floor before the situation will be explained to you. "

Hearing him, the Adventurer nodded his head without actually replying as they decided to refill themselves a bit in Riviria's pub.

Now with nobody in sight, Ethan nodded as he turned towards Ais while she just stared at him.

"Now, let's go report to Finn the situation"

His words made her look towards the main tent while he sighed. He knew the situation wasn't really a 'problem' yet, but, as a core member, he had to protect his familia from harm if he had the way to do so.

'I can't just think it was something occasional. I have to report this as fast as possible"

These thoughts in mind made him even more determined while Ais tilted her head slightly. She understood he was right about wanting to report the situation as fast as possible.

"...Let's go."

Her words made him nod as the two headed towards the main tent...

'Deal with these things is always a pain..but finally, I have some time to rest as well..'

What she didn't expect however, was to see Ethan and Ais hurrying back as he had a serious expression on his face. Knowing her much earned sleep wouldn't have come, she sighed as she saw the two, now in front of her.

Confused, she wanted to ask what happened but, before she could, he was already starting to explain.

"Oh, Riveria. I have something to tell you regarding the Dungeon. We found a Variant extremely powerful in the Dungeon. So strong that even Ais had to use her [Ariel]..We have to inform everyone about it and prevent them from going alone in the floors."

Understanding he was deadly serious, Riveria stopped him immediately as he brought him in the main tent. Sighing rather heavily, she added

"Ethan..if you have to tell me such an important thing, at least wait until we're somewhere nobody will be able to hear"

Nodding, he knew she was right, but, he was worried that some kind of monster, even higher in level then the last one would spawn while they were talking…

"You know that as well, but if a monster is so strong that Ais needs to use [Ariel] to kill it, then it's no joke. I don't think the situation has be taken lightly"

Closing her eyes, she hit him lightly on the head as she sighed again

"I know that as well, I'm not taking the situation lightly. But it's not the case to rush everything. Tell me more details. Otherwise, I won't have enough details to report it."

"I'll go to inform Finn about the situation. You two can prevent anyone from leaving the 18th floor. Just check the exit for the 17th. At the entrance for 19th floor I'll send someone else"

Understanding, he sighed as well while Ais just looked at him without actually saying anything.

'the last time I saw him he was already gone.'

Knowing Finn wasn't in the main tent, Riveria knew he was on his own as Finn could only be there when he wasn't busy dealing with Familia's affairs, or when he didn't specify he was going somewhere else

"Finn, are you there? I have to talk with you about something really important"

Her words made him open the tent. Confused, he was about to ask what happened before he saw that her expression was extremely serious.

"In the Dungeon. Ethan and Ais were hunting monsters until a monster party spawned. Just this event is rare, but what really is important is that they found another Variant. It was so strong that Ais needed to use [Ariel] to deal with it. We can't let anyone go alone in the Dungeon while monsters of this level can spawn…"

Sighing, Finn had a small smile on his face as lately, every important thing that happened was starring with his younger core member.

'He always finds something interesting..this time It's a Variant.."

Returning serious, he added

"Can you tell me more details regarding the Monster? Did he tell you something about it?"

With a nod, she explained everything Ethan said regarding their hunt as Finn didn't reply. In reality, he was busy trying to understand why the Dungeon would behave like this but, finding it was too difficult to come up with an explanation at the moment, he decided to just follow the flow and do as he asked.

"Let's call everyone from the familia, we'll restrict access to the 17th floor and the 19th floor to everyone. We core members will have the task to investigate and, if everything is clear for at least 12 hours, we'll let others come with us. What do you think about it?"

Hearing his explanation on how to act with the familia, Riveria answered

"You are the Captain, if you think this is a good decision then I'll follow your instructions"

Knowing that Riveria would say something like this, Finn didn't reply as he continued his speech

"For now your task will be to get everyone to the main tent. I'll talk to them there"

Without questioning, she just headed towards the main tent to start gathering everyone while Finn thought about what to exactly say to them…

'Again the protagonist, Ethan. you must really like your position at this point'

This was his last thought before he decided to seriously think on the best way to tell to his familia what happened without alarming them too much…

(If you're wondering what is the real difference between [Ariel] and [Avian], obviously [Ariel] is a full-control wind technique. Ais has mastery over a single element while Ethan can master it as well as go and master some other element if he feels like it. The ability in using it is another gap and power itself is another. [Ariel] outclass [Avian] in all categories if we're talking about the Wind control version)
