Chapter 161 One Enemy After Another

Day Fifteen…

~~*****~~

Kathleen didn't leave the car yet when she noticed Stephen and Nathan in the hotel lobby. She waited for them to ride the elevator before she came out.

"Thanks for dropping me," Kathleen said, unbuckling her seatbelt and opening the car door. However, before she could step out of the car, Jack grabbed her elbow.

"Can I visit you here once in a while? How long will you be staying here?" Jack asked Kathleen. He thought it would be a good disguise that he would come to this hotel to visit someone. With that, he would have an alibi.

Meanwhile, Kathleen just raised her eyebrow, eyeing him suspiciously. "Why do you want to visit me?"

"To get to know you more. And besides, you owed me so much. I took care of you last night. You should treat me to a meal!" Jack demanded.

"Hmm. Okay. Just give me a call. Here's my calling card!" Kathleen gave him a calling card before saying goodbye to Jack.

Without looking back, Kathleen proceeded to the hotel lobby. As soon as she entered the hotel her phone rang. Aiden was the one calling her.

"Yes? What do you need from me?" Kathleen asked Aiden as soon as she answered the call.

"Finally, you answered my call. Abigail and I have been looking for you. Where are you?" Aiden said exasperatedly.

Kathleen suddenly felt guilty at the mention of Abigail's name. She didn't want to get jealous of her friend but she couldn't help it. She allowed Veronica to influence and affect her emotions.

'I should have talked to Abigail. I shouldn't doubt her. I know Veronica only wants to destroy our friendship and create conflict between us.' Now, she sobered up, Kathleen realized her mistake.

"I'm here in the hotel now," She meekly replied.

"Okay! Wait for us. We're coming back! You and Abigail were transferred to another room because of last night's incident." Aiden informed her.

"Last night's incident?" Kathleen was a little bit confused.

"Yes. Someone attacked Abigail in your room!" Aiden was like a reporter, telling her everything.

"What?!! Is she okay?" Kathleen suddenly felt alarmed.

"Of course. I already mentioned that she's with me! Got to go. I'm driving." Aiden hung up the phone after reassuring her that Abigail was just fine. Kathleen could only sigh deeply.

Kathleen waited for them. Twenty minutes later, Abigail and Aiden arrived at Ramenx Crowne Hotel. They saw Kathleen in the waiting lounge of the lobby.

Kathleen immediately stood up and ran in Abigail's direction. She pounced on her, hugging her. "I'm sorry, Abi! I'm sorry!"

Abigail let out a soft giggle, rubbing Kathleen's back. "Hey, why are you apologizing?"

"It's my fault for not coming back last night," Kathleen said, feeling guilty.

"You silly girl. It's not your fault. Someone has a grudge against me… that's why it happened." Abigail consoled her.

"Okay, Ladies, I shall leave." Aiden butted in. He didn't want to ruin the moment between the two so he had to give them privacy.

"Cousin, don't just disappear like that, understand? You made us all worried!" Aiden scolded her one last time before he left.

"So what happened to you last night? Where did you go?" Abigail pulled her back to the couch. She didn't want to talk about the attack because for her it was not a big deal. Her attacker was just a small fry. So Abigail immediately diverted Kathleen's attention.

Kathleen exhaled deeply as she pursed her lips. "It's because of Veronica. She said something that got into my nerves and I lost control of my emotions…"

Abigail frowned. She knew it! Veronica was a scheming woman. She wouldn't be surprised if Veronica was the real mastermind behind the attack.

"What did she say?" She softly asked, encouraging Kathleen to open up.

"She said… you were also trying to seduce Stephen… and she said that Stephen had already fallen for you. She knew that I liked Stephen…" Kathleen told her everything as if she was being bullied by someone.

"Sigh. Don't believe her ridiculous words. I already told you. Stephen is not my target… I mean not my type. It's Nathan. If I have to seduce someone then it would be Nathan, not Stephen!" Abigail raised her right hand as she swore to Kathleen.

"I know… I'm sorry for doubting you, Abi. You can slap me… if you want," Kathleen said, closing her eyes while offering the left side of her face.

Abigail could only smile at her silliness. "Do you really think I am that shallow and will slap you? What do you think of me, Kath? I am your friend… aren't I?"

"Of course, yes! You are my friend. That's why I'm feeling guilty for thinking that way." Kathleen felt ashamed of her childish action.

"It's okay. I understand. Let's not allow Veronica to get between us," Abigail said. She was glad to have Kathleen and Aiden by her side. Gaining more allies would make her life easy.

Kathleen bobbed her head frantically. "Yes! I will. This will never happen again, Abi!" She hugged Abigail once more. "I'm glad nothing bad happened to you."

Abigail just put on a satisfied smile. Everything was still going according to her plan.

Meanwhile, Veronica contacted someone, her face was as dark as the bottom of the pot.

"I didn't expect you to fail miserably like this! What happened to the person you hired?! Don't tell me he was caught last night?" Veronica's enraged voice echoed from the other line.

The guy could only pick his ear as Veronica was yelling at him. She was furious.

"I don't have any news about him. I told him not to contact me again and flee after finishing his mission," the guy reasoned out with her. He was used to Veronica's bad temper. He had been working under her for a long time.

"Find him! He shouldn't be caught!" Veronica was under a lot of stress lately because of Abigail. She ruined her plan for this trip! She got in between Nathan and Veronica.

"Don't worry, My Lady. Even if he gets caught, you will not be implicated. He didn't know who the real mastermind was." The man on the other line reassured Veronica.

"Hmmph! If someone finds out, I'll kill both of you! Understand?!" Veronica threatened him.

The guy just let out a husky laugh. "You can't kill me, My Lady. You owe me big time," the guy said meaningfully.

"Fuck you!" Veronica cursed him.

She heard another laugh. "I would love to fuck you, Nica," he called her nickname in such an endearing tone.

Veronica didn't comment further as she hung up the call. She couldn't win any argument against that shameless guy. She hated his arrogance. But she had no choice but to continue communicating with him.

She owed that man. He helped her a lot so many times. So even though she was annoyed by him, Veronica couldn't ignore or avoid him.

"Damn! I want to kick his ass!" Veronica became more enraged. Her mood worsened further.

"Should I just ask him to do the job, personally? But I don't want to be indebted to him once more. He would just take advantage of me. Damnit!" Veronica threw her phone to vent out her frustration.
