The two of them walked out of the supermarket in that posture.

Just then, Bai Duanduan’s heart was set on the pair of evil grandmother and her grandson, but now that only she and Ji Lin were left, she realized the ambiguity of the posture. The first time she thought of the plan, she didn’t expect that Ji Lin would immediately let go of the plush bear and pick her up……

“Oh, our child is stable now?”

Ji Lin’s expression was calm and his tone was cold but Bai Duanduan felt that he had bitten off the word “our” a little too hard, with a bit of a questioning tone.

Bai Duanduan laughed dryly, “That….. was an emergency situation at the time, so I just casually made up a random excuse.” She quickly changed the subject and said, “But Ji Lin, this time remember to thank me. In order to help you out, I didn’t buy any of the carefully picked snacks in my cart…” Bai Duanduan said, while pulling out the four hundred yuan that Ji Lin had given her before. “Here, take it back. I didn’t use this favor, so I’m exempted from working overtime ah! Don’t look for me to work overtime!”

Ji Lin pursed his lips, his face was cold and sturdy and he didn’t really have any special expression. However, when Bai Duanduan was looking at him like that, he felt his heart beating like a drum, and he subconsciously panicked and almost rushed to find an excuse to run away and leave first.

And just after leaving the supermarket, Bai Duanduan received a phone call from Dai Qin, informing herself that Guifeng Communication’s lawyer has scheduled a meeting in the afternoon of the next day with her to communicate about the invalid dismissal of the employment contract. Bai Duanduan comforted her with a few words, then looked at her schedule and marked the next day’s afternoon slot for the meeting.

After doing so, Bai Duanduan looked up and spotted Ji Lin. He was holding a bear of almost equal height with no expression on his face, and then he pushed the door into the cake shop by the supermarket without fearing the gaze of others.

Not long after, Bai Duanduan saw him come out again with a cold face, holding the bear, but with a cake shop bag in his hand.

Doesn’t Ji Lin have a dislike for sweets? Why did he buy such a big cake?

Bai Duanduan had just answered the phone under the hot sun so she ran to hide behind a bush under the shade of a tree. Ji Lin was walking towards her with a cake and a stuffed bear. Following the direction of his route, Ji Lin would soon be able to see herself. Bai Duanduan didn’t know what was wrong with her, but she felt that her heart was pounding hard. She had just received a call from Dai Qin, so she should have taken the opportunity to communicate with Ji Lin. However, she suddenly felt panicked, as if she was a person with temporary stage fright, and the only thing left in her mind was the idea of running away. And just like a ghost, she hid her entire body in the bushes, allowing the green leaves to cover her completely.

Ji Lin really didn’t see her but he stopped right in front of the shade of the tree where Bai Duanduan was hiding. He looked at his watch, and it wasn’t long before a little boy dressed in dirty clothes came running towards him with a smile.

“Brother Ji Lin!” The kid’s voice was tinged with surprise, “You really got the bear!”

“Yeah.”

Through the gap in the leaves, Bai Duanduan saw Ji Lin calmly hand the plush bear in his arms to the little boy in front of him.

The boy looked about the same age as that scum child who was rolling on the floor in the supermarket. Yet he was a little tanned which showed he spent a lot of time working outside and his clothes were a bit ragged. He was carrying a large bag of rubbish in one hand. Bai Duanduan took a closer look and found that the bag was full of plastic bottles and cardboard boxes. This kid was actually a rag picker.

He looked at the plush bear and his eyes were all bright, yet his expression was coy, “No, Brother Ji Lin, I’m dirty now. Can you help me put the bear in a big clean plastic bag?”

Ji Lin’s expression didn’t change much, yet his tone was patient,”Ok.”

The child was very happy, “Thank you brother Ji Lin, last time I said I wanted this bear for my birthday, I didn’t think you would really remember to buy it for me! I even went to the supermarket and saw that this was the last one left!”

“Here’s the cake, happy birthday.”

The child waved his hand repeatedly, his face full of embarrassment, “No, no, I’m taking too many gifts from you, Brother Ji Lin. I’m happy to have this bear as a birthday present, take back the cake and eat it yourself! Don’t buy anything for me purposely in the future! What a waste of money!”

“It’s not a waste.” Ji Lin’s expression was calm and concise as he lied, “I didn’t buy it. It’s the cake coupon I got for buying the bear earlier, so I got it for free. Since the bear is a gift for you, of course this freebie I got with the bear is for you too.”

The child was finally relieved when he heard that the cake didn’t cost him anything, and smiled sweetly at Ji Lin and thanked him, before accepting the gift with peace of mind.

Children of the same age such as that scum child in the supermarket have been pampered by their families all their lives and not being able to buy a plush bear was already a huge setback for them. Not to mention gratitude, they do not even understand the simplest way of life.

However, the child in front of Ji Lin was really poor who has suffered hardship and knows that life was not easy. He also knows how to be considerate of others.

Although he accepted the gift, he was still a little shy, “Brother Ji Lin, you gave me a gift for my birthday, and usually buy me a lot of books and food, and pay my school fees. If you spend a lot of money on me, it will not be enough for yourself ……” the child solemnly said, “You can spend a little less money now. I usually help my parents with garbage collection and can save some pocket money for myself.  You do not have to give me so much and keep more for your own use, I…..”

Bai Duanduan, who was hiding in the bushes, was really surprised. Ji Lin was usually a very hard-hearted man, who never spent money when he could. She thought he would be stingy on all fronts. Yet to her surprise he had been sponsoring the child in front of him.

His tone of voice with the child was still not polite. He was as cold and inquisitive as ever and cherished his words like gold. Even though he was dealing with a child, he didn’t communicate with the other party in a childish way, but still maintained the same calm adult tone and wordings, and didn’t appear much softer either.

However, for no reason, Bai Duanduan felt that Ji Lin was a gentle man. He didn’t say anything warm, nor he was overly proactive and enthusiastic, yet the way he looked at the child at the moment inexplicably made Bai Duanduan’s heart palpitate – the warmth of a cold man was really very touching.

In that instant, Bai Duanduan could not control herself. The strange heartbeat from earlier came back and she had to subconsciously press her chest in order to remain calm and continue hiding in the bushes.

And before the child could finish his sentence, Ji Lin interrupted the him—

“It won’t. You can use it without worry.” His voice was dry and concise. And just at the moment Bai Duanduan was continuing to feel touched by him, she heard him say—

“I’m making all this money out of other people anyway.”

At Bai Duanduan’s speechlessness, Ji Lin continued blandly, “And I have many employees, so don’t worry, I will squeeze them when I run out of money.”

“……”

Ji Lin’s warmth? It doesn’t exist.
