Chapter 28.1 “I won’t charge you money for this, put it on.”

Seeing that Ji Lin’s mother was fine, Rong Sheng called some other of his drinking buddies and without staying any longer, he said goodbye to Ji Lin and left. Ji Lin returned to the villa along the same road. On the way, he received a call from a client and was delayed for a while. As a result, when he got home, Bai Duanduan had already left, and only Ms. Meng Xin was left in the living room sighing in resentment.

“Shhh!” Bai Duanduan made a silent gesture as she lowered her voice and said, “Turn off the car and turn off the lights first.”

Ji Lin frowned, although he was not sure what she was doing, but still complied and turned off the car engine. He opened the car door and got out to check the situation.

When Bai Duanduan saw Ji Lin get out of the car, she hurriedly pulled him over, pointed above herself and leaned close to his ear and whispered, “See?”

Unexpectedly her breath lingered around Ji Lin’s ears and caught him off guard. The warm stream of air brought a faint smell of citrus eau de toilette, and Ji Lin took a step back subconsciously. The distance was too close for him.

Ji Lin almost absentmindedly looked up in the direction Bai Duanduan pointed out, “Oh, the moon is quite full tonight.”

Bai Duanduan glared at Ji Lin, “You think I’m standing here to enjoy the moon?”

“Didn’t you?”

“Of course not!”

Bai Duanduan was simply speechless. She could 100% confirm that Ji Lin was definitely his mother Ms Meng Xin’s own child. This mudslide thinking and operation of his was really exactly the same as his mother.

She pulled Ji Lin over, “You stand at my angle and look up!”

Ji Lin followed the angle that Bai Duanduan was looking up at and finally saw that what Bai Duanduan was looking at was a tiny cat in the tree. The cat had somehow climbed up to such a high branch and was now shivering and afraid to come down.

“Come on, Mimi, jump down. It’s okay, there’s no dog here, the big dog that was chasing you just now has been chased away by me!”

It was a pity that no matter how much Bai Duanduan tried to persuade her, the cat still hesitated to come down from the tree.

“This stray cat in your neighborhood was chased and beaten by an unleashed dog. So it fled up the tree and now refuses to come down.” Bai Duanduan looked up again and said, “Forget it, I’ll go up and bring it down myself.”

When she finished speaking, she simply took off her coat, rolled up her sleeves, and before Ji Lin could react, she jumped up the fence of Ji Lin’s neighbor’s house and started climbing up the tree. It was a pity that she had just stepped back onto the fence and was about to jump down when suddenly, the lights in the courtyard of the family villa turned on.

“Who?! Which thief?” An angry shout came from a distance and soon reached the fence, “How dare you steal from this old woman! See if I don’t clean you up!”

As soon as the words left her mouth, without waiting for Bai Duanduan to explain, a strong stream of water came spraying towards her. The lady of the house was so ruthless that she used a high-pressure water gun with a hose which was usually used to wash the car to greet her. Bai Duanduan was not mentally prepared at all, and under this strong water pressure, she lost her balance directly and fell off the fence.

The fence was not too high, but not too short either. Bai Duanduan shielded the cat in her hand and only had time to close her eyes in the weightlessness and prepare for the impending collision and pain.

But to her surprise, none of this happened. What she ended up in was the warm embrace of someone who stumbled a little at first when he caught herself, but soon he steadied himself. Then a strong hand wrapped around her waist, and a few seconds later, her feet finally landed firmly on the ground, and the dizzying weightlessness was over for good.

All of this happened in only a few seconds, but it was so thrilling that it seemed like a lifetime of ups and downs.

Bai Duanduan looked up and was caught off guard when she saw Ji Lin’s eyes.
