CH 23

The director really tried his best to dig pits. After all, when this question was displayed on the screen, Gu Wei swore he saw a sinister smile appearing on the director’s face.

Tying the knot?

The first thing he thought of was that there happened to be such… marriage talks between him and Jiang Xun. Should they really go along with the engagement, they would be, metaphorically, tying the knot.  

But how to describe this?

He really couldn’t say any of that on a variety show!

They were being filmed, and his father already called off the engagement. On top of that, Jiang Xun might not be able to understand what he meant. 

The timer reached the last ten seconds, and the director happily prepared a gong, ready to ring it in celebration of the guests’ epic failure. 

However, at this moment, Jiang Xun, who was facing away from the screen, suddenly caught Gu Wei’s evasive gaze. Just now, the kid had an excited look – positively brimming with joy. But now he looked hesitant and shy. He only dared to peek at him, then quickly moved away from Jiang Xun’s line of sight. Jiang Xun saw Gu Wei’s expression like this once – that time when he blocked Gu Wei in the dressing room while bullying him by calling him his little bride. 

Hm… just what kind of idiom then, that could elicit such a big reaction from Gu Wei? 

If he considered the relationship between them, and recent events that happened… could it be—

Jiang Xun opened his mouth: “Tying the knot?”

Gu Wei: “…”

There was a loud bang, the gong in the director’s hand fell to the ground, causing a huge commotion that cut the guests’ silence sharply.

The director held the staff’s hand and cried, “is the question I prepared so simple? Why can they guess correctly from sheer eye contact???”

“No, no. They’re just… like that. Not your fault,” the staff reassured the hysterical Director Zhang. Truly, it was the miraculous operation of these two guests. They won by fucking telepathy! Who could do that? ESP1extra sensory perception; psychic powers basically? Not even the esteemed pit-digger Director Zhang could predict this kind of outcome, okay!

The excitement of successfully breaking through a huge trap blinded Gu Wei’s eyes. He forgot the subtle feeling the idiom brought to him, as he was overcome with joy. He flew over and threw himself into Jiang Xun’s embrace, who was standing facing him.

“Ge, you are truly, too powerful.” The youth pressed his face into Jiang Xun’s neck in this hugging position, and he was not stingy with his praise.

Jiang Xun took Gu Wei into his arms and spun him around in a circle.

“Ge, let’s go!” Seeing the director and the staff whispering to each other, Gu Wei hurriedly urged Jiang Xun to leave. He wouldn’t let these two suddenly give them extra bullshit challenges! Uh-huh, no sire!

“As you wish,” Jiang Xun grinned, and repositioned the youth into a comfortable hold. After that, he ran away with Gu Wei in his arms – in a complete bridal carry.

The two of them didn’t forget  to take away the mission key reward.

Seeing the two guests running away, the cameramen gave chase, leaving the director still stunned on the spot.

What just happened? Jiang Xun just ran off with their guest? He even carried Gu Wei like that, like some rascal snatching a bride on her wedding day! 

Staring at the show’s plans outline in his hands, Director Zhang inexplicably remembered something that he heard from his good friend Song Jingxi a while ago… didn’t she said that she found a fiancé for her son Jiang Xun? 

This… this couldn’t be such a coincidence… could it? 

Gu Wei and Jiang Xun finally left the teaching building and headed straight towards the athletic field. The other two guests had already found each other and were standing on the running track, waving at them.

When answering the question from the Q&A session  just now, Gu Wei guessed that the remaining two guests should be Bei Ke and Qian Yining. So, he was not surprised to see them now, but their roles… well, they were quite eyecatching, to say the least. 

The popular actor Bei Ke got the role of a school janitor. He wore a cap with the word “CLEANER” on his head and brought a mop along on his shoulder – all very contrasting images to his usual cool and handsome image. While the pop sensation Qian Yining was even worse. She got the role of the school flower2most beautiful girl in the school. The unscrupulous show crew forced her to wear a miniskirt, along with a cheap plastic flower pinned on her head, as if her role wasn’t clear enough. 

The two of them were obviously cheated by the program crew to the point of suffering. So when they saw their fellow victims guests, they were filled with joy as if they were meeting their long-lost relatives. 

But Gu Wei didn’t want to give another loving hug anymore, and—

“Ge, you can put me down.” Gu Wei said cautiously.

The two of them were busy running just now. And with no one pointing it out, Gu Wei wasn’t really conscious of the fact that he was still being carried by Jiang Xun all the way.

Gu Wei looked at the surrounding cameras a little uncomfortably, and quickly asked Jiang Xun to put him down.

“God Xun,” Qian Yining was very excited when she saw Jiang Xun, “I couldn’t believe it when I answered my set of questions! I didn’t expect this unscrupulous show to be able to invite the world champion!” 

“I’ve seen your work,” Bei Ke was talking about the TV series that Jiang Xun starred in when he was a child.

“Please don’t talk about that,” Jiang Xun laughed politely, “my mother used that to tease me all the time.”

Due to the fact that the director had put them through the wringer, all the guests showed a sense of camaraderie on the first meeting despite never cooperating before. 

Qian Yining pulled Gu Wei and chatted endlessly, “I finally saw the real one! I have been a fan of your group for a long time. When I answered my question, I kept wondering which member will come~”

The two of them were about the same age. So it was no wonder they got along instantly. Once they started to chat, it kept going, jumping from topics to topics. 

Jiang Xun stretched out his hand, and calmly pushed Gu Wei into his direction, away from Qian Yining. The school bully shouldn’t get along too well with the school flower, right…?

Gu Wei didn’t notice Jiang Xun’s small movements at all, so he let himself be moved closer to Jiang Xun, while continuing to talk to Qian Yining, “actually, another member came along with me. But I still haven’t found him yet.”

Meanwhile, Shi Xinyan, who was forced by the evil program crew to dress up as the cafeteria auntie, was frantically washing dirty dishes. He was this close to full-blown sobbing at this point.

“Can I go out already? Please? With a cherry on top?” He was not beneath begging for his freedom.

Gu Wei was still waiting for him! He promised to take care of the main dancer of his group!

“The director said fifty more,” The staff member ruthlessly said.

“Why??” Shi Xinyan sobbed. He now considered the pros and cons of just kneel down and kowtow.

“Because your fellow groupmate ‘shook my mother just now’. These are Director Zhang’s original words.”

Shi Xinyan: “???” 

It’s none of his business if Weiwei shook your mother!

Besides, such a thing was practically impossible. Weiwei was a good boy. He was their well-behaved, shy, nice little baby of the group. He would never cause trouble for others!
