Chapter 13.5 - Luckily

Just as she was about to ask whether her brother had money to stay at a hotel, Bai Xingfan abruptly ordered the driver to return to the manor. The driver nodded and carefully accelerated the car.

Su Yan froze and stared blankly at Bai Xingfan. She remembered how she had refused his proposal earlier.

The neon lights of the city started to flicker at this point, and the sky had already turned dark. The interior of the dark car was bathed in light and shadow as a result of the street lights' constant retreat.

From her angle, she could see Bai Xingfan's profile clearly: the angular jawline was severely shaded, the tall nose bridge was highlighted by light, and the thin and angular cheekbones were all clearly visible. This person was like a three-dimensional sketch.

'No woman could resist such a man.'

She wanted to express her gratitude, but when the words left her mouth, she once again felt helpless because there was no other way to show her appreciation besides by expressing it aloud. Although he said not to say ‘thank you’, Su Yan finally expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thank you so much for what you did."

"Miss Su, why don't you send me a voicemail? When I want to hear you say "thank you," I'll click to listen," Bai Xingfan said with a light sigh.

Su Yan wanted to laugh but also felt a little ashamed.

Su Zhan abruptly ended the talk about 'thank you' at this point: "Wow, Brother Bai, don’t think about that. She has such a powerful voice! Usually, I immediately convert the voice messages she sends me into text after listening to them for no more than five seconds. Too fiercer!"

Su Yan: ‘That's because you, a fool, don't deserve my tenderness!’

Bai Xingfan couldn't help laughing again: "So Miss Su still has such a powerful side?"

Su Yan flushed even though she understood that he was joking, turned to face the silly Baitian, and started to settle the score with him: "Are you bored? You just came here to look for problems?"

"I didn't come here only to look for problems, I saw Xie Yu on the road, and at first I didn't want to talk to him, but then I couldn't take it any longer, so I followed him to the hospital," said Su Zhan in defence.

Su Yan: "And then?"

"I beat him, who knew that his father was celebrating his birthday today, and the entire Xie family was there? Su Zhan rubbed his head angrily once more.

Su Yan couldn't help wondering if Xie Yu was badly hurt because she didn’t see him at the hospital: "Is he seriously injured?"

Su Zhan quickly uttered: "Actually, it's not my fault, I just punched him. Who knew that he didn't hide or block, he took my punch, and then fell down the stairs. Two broken ribs..."

Su Yan looked at Su Zhan, stunned and perplexed.

Su Zhan was almost as shocked and gave his sister a shocked look: "Why are you looking at me like this?  Do you still worry about him? How did he treat you? Can't you just let him go?"

Bai Xingfan, who was sitting in the passenger seat, clutched his right fist while remaining silent.

Helpless, Su Yan said, "I'm scared he'll sue you!"

Su Zhan: "Oh, it shouldn't be. Before entering the operating room, he repeatedly asked his family members not to call the police; otherwise, I would have been arrested.

It was beyond her expectation: "For he has a conscience," Su Yan said.

Su Zhan agreed "Yes, he does have some morals, more so than his mother, but I still have to thank him for not marrying you because the Xie family is a gang! You can’t live in such a family."

Although Su Yan remained silent, she secretly agreed with her younger brother's opinion.

She was deeply disgusted by the play that took place in the hospital today since it allowed her to see the true nature of the Xie family, whether it was Xie Yu's mother, his aunt, or his uncle.

Thankfully, the marriage was cancelled; otherwise, she would have started a family with this horrible group of people.

Marriage was not only between two people but also between two families.

The Xie family was despicable and dirty, and they were definitely not good people.

Su Zhan was still pondering it over: "His mom is the best! My God, since I was a young child, I have never seen a woman of such poor quality. Not as good as our mom, a woman from the countryside! If you actually wed Xie Yu, his mother will bully you daily."

Su Yan felt a rush of anxiety that she would never be able to shake for the rest of her life, and it wasn't just because she was on the verge of marrying Shen Rong's son-in-law. It was also because of Xie Yu's uncle. Since he dared to tease her in a public setting like the hospital, the old pervert has harassed her. What else could he not do? ‘Xie Yu wouldn't be able to be by my side all the time; there would always be moments when I am alone at home, and if his uncle comes at such a time...'

The more she thought about it, the more afraid she became.

After a long silence, Su Yan said truthfully: "Fortunately, he escaped from marriage…"

A few minutes ago, she still felt that the failed wedding was a nightmare, pushing her into the bottomless abyss. But now she suddenly realised that it was simply a saviour, pushing her out of the abyss.

"Yes, it's fortunate that he avoided getting married. We still wouldn't be able to witness the disgusting side of Xie's family if it weren't for his attempt to flee from marriage!" Su Zhan also agreed.

"Yes," Su Yan finally felt a lot of relief after such an incident.

Su Zhan encouraged his sister once more, saying, "Don't be upset over Xie Yu anymore, it's not worth it!"

Su Yan also wanted to end this relationship, but she was unable to do so since she still hated him and couldn't forgive him.

In the end, Xie Yu betrayed both her and their love. He forced her to the edge, made her feel pain and misery, and then left her and her family in the dark to deal with everyone's judgement and suspicion. If she could even forgive such a betrayal, she would no longer be a human being but the all-powerful Virgin Mary. What's more, he was her entire youth.

How was it possible to end a more than ten-year relationship suddenly?

She couldn't take her eyes off the ten-year relationship, not even for love. It resembled a pond. The fish there always believed the water was crystal clear, so they dove in happily. However, one day, the fish realised that everything was wrong. The water was quite nasty and not at all clear, so how couldn’t the illusion continue?

It was a sense of broken faith.

Without saying anything, Su Yan sighed softly, halted her speech, turned her head aside, and stared out the window.
