09. Night Attack (2)

After Bai Zhi left, there were only two people left in the carriage, Yu Qingjia and Murong Yan. The two of them never spoke to each other, not even in the classroom, let alone during this tiring journey. Yu Qingjia was already used to this kind of silence and does not feel awkward at all. She was moving her legs slightly, when Murong Yan suddenly opened his eyes and grabbed Yu Qingjia’s shoulders and bowed her head.

Yu Qingjia was taken aback, her elbow hit the carriage seat with a thud, causing her pain immediately. Then, almost at the moment when the two of them fell to the ground, two arrows rustled through the wind and flew in through the side curtain. Both were firmly nailed into the carriage. After a long time, the buzzing vibration of the tail feathers can be heard.

Yu Qingjia fell down inside the carriage, completely dazed. Those two arrows seemed to be some kind of coded signal. It was followed by locust-like arrows falling from the sky, and the sound of shouting and killing rang outside the mountains and forests. The footsteps outside the carriage were also panicked and confused. The guards hastily gathered to defend against the enemy, but they were caught off guard, and they couldn’t even get into formation in a hurry.

Yu Qingjia’s ears were filled with the sound of arrows being shot into the carriage, so she didn’t have to go out to know that the outside of the carriage must have been shot into a hornet’s nest. She had never experienced such a battle before, she firmly covered her ears, tears welled up in her eyes, and looked at Murong Yan in a panic, “What’s going on outside?”

Murong Yan’s face was very cold, and Yu Qingjia had been shaken by his cold face so many times, but it was the first time she had seen him with such a terrifying expression. His eyes are not pure black, there was a faint blue ghostly light emanating from it, and those eyes are deep and sunken like a whirlpool. It was more alarming, dangerous and bewitching.

The carriage had limited space, and now the sky is full of arrows, although most of them are blocked by the carriage, but there is no shortage of few well-aimed ones that penetrate the carriage at various tricky angles. Murong Yan grabbed one of her arms, pulled her up almost as if he was carrying her, and dragged her around, leading her to dodge the Blind Spots of the arrows quickly. The space was not that big, and she was frightened. She hugged Murong Yan tightly while his arms were around her knees, and grabbed the corner of Murong Yan’s clothes tightly with one hand.

Murong Yan is too lazy to bother with such things at such a critical moment. Yu Qingjia felt as if she had been inside the carriage for a long time, and that half of her life had already passed, but in fact the attack occurred only for a brief moment. When Yu Wenjun found out about the ambush, he felt really anxious. He immediately asked someone to go to the carriage to pick up his daughter and the little prince, but the driver had already been shot dead, and the horses saw the arrows and gave a long, frightened neigh. Since no one was controlling them, out of instinct, they started running away.

When Yu Wenjun saw the carriage stumbling away, his heart was about to jump out. He wanted to ask someone to chase after it immediately, but he suddenly thought that this time the attack was mostly aimed at the little prince, and the people who came here must not know about Prince Langya’s whereabouts. There’s probably a spy along the way. If not, if the current emperor had already confirmed Murong Yan’s location, it would be easier for him to issue a beheading order directly. Why go through all the trouble to ambush them on the road?

The spies must have thought that Yu Wenjun had disguised Prince Langya as a guard to mix in the accompanying party. Their current targets are also concentrated on these people, which is evident from the fact that the other side did not send a lot of people to chase after the carriage.

Yu Wenjun felt his heart pounding in his chest. Prince Langya and Jiajia were together, and everyone subconsciously thought that they were both women. If Yu Wenjun sent a large number of people to chase after them, it would be harming them instead.

Yu Wenjun gritted his teeth, and instead of sending someone to chase after the carriage, he gathered all his men to retreat. The other party saw Yu Wenjun’s performance and became even more sure that Murong Yan was hiding here.

Meanwhile inside the carriage was a mess. It was swaying dramatically from side to side, it almost overturned several times too, Yu Qingjia was so frightened that she did not dare to open her eyes. She was clutching Murong Yan’s arm, while her nails were almost digging into his flesh.

Murong Yan was much calmer than her, especially since he found out that there were no pursuers behind them. He was determined, and was about to check the terrain outside the carriage window, but found that his arm was being held tightly by Yu Qingjia.

Murong Yan’s face twitched, and found that he could not draw his arm out. He was furious and said in a cold voice, “Let go.”

Yu Qingjia still closed her eyes and pretended to be dead. Murong Yan was about to laugh at this fool, “Now that the carriage is out of control, what is the use of closing your eyes? Let go, I’ll control the horse.”

Yu Qingjia opened her eyes half-heartedly, she realized that the horse had been running for a long time, and now she didn’t know where they were. She immediately froze and looked around for a while and found the vixen staring at her with an unfriendly gaze. She bowed her head and let go of the other party’s arm with an “Oh”.

The carriage was almost shaken to the point of flying out, but Murong Yan was still as stable as the ground, and Yu Qingjia saw him half-kneeling and walking out, she was startled, and hurried forward to tug the corner of Murong Yan’s clothes.

As soon as Murong Yan got up, he found that there was some resistance behind him. He lowered his eyelashes and swept downward, finding Yu Qingjia nestled into a ball, and looking at him pitifully. This villain is really too weak, Murong Yan finally did not have the heart to pull out the corner of his coat, so he let her follow behind him.

Seeing that the vixen did not refuse, Yu Qingjia was overjoyed. She grabbed his clothes with her hands and quickly crawled out on her feet.

Murong Yan moved nimbly and lightly inside the carriage, but when it came to her, she could only crawl tremblingly. She couldn’t keep her balance several times and was about to fall. If she hadn’t grabbed at Murong Yan’s clothes, she would have rolled away.

After finally moving out of the carriage, Murong Yan half-knelt outside and tried to control the horse, but the horse had already been shot with several arrows. How could a horse in a manic state be controlled by a human? Murong Yan noticed that the surrounding vegetation was becoming even more bare, and the rocks are also gradually connecting into a whole block. If nothing unexpected happened, there might be a cliff ahead.

Murong Yan immediately shouted, “Jump off the carriage, there’s a cliff ahead.”

Yu Qingjia tremblingly clasped the wooden frame, she was unable to react, “The Carriage is too fast, Why should I jump?”

Murong Yan squinted his eyes and looked ahead. He can already vaguely see the cliff. He picked up Yu Qingjia with one hand, and said impatiently, “Why do you talk so much nonsense?”

Yu Qingjia did not even react, and felt herself thrown out of the carriage. She screamed “Ah”, until she rolled two laps on the grass, she could not believe that she was thrown out of the carriage by the vixen.

Then the grass around her sank slightly, and Murong Yan also jumped down with her. He was light and beautiful when he landed, while in contrast, Yu Qingjia rolled several times on the grass, her hair was full of weeds, her face was dishevelled, and she was in a mess.

She got up from the ground and angrily yanked down the dry grass from her mouth, “Why is your heart so vicious?”

“I saved your life, be content.”

Murong Yan stood up after speaking. He raised his eyes and looked around the surroundings.

Yu Qingjia also followed him and looked around. The mountains and forests were vast and gloomy. The canopy of trees formed a pale green ocean, and the ground below was barely visible. There was a sound of a horse whining not far away.

The carriage crashed and fell off the cliff, and her eyes could not see it anymore. Now, the only two people left are the vixen and her.
