Chapter 261 Bad News

"It is condensed mana that you can feel," Sauros said. "It is messing with my senses as well… since it is condensed mana that is inside a magic circle to perform time magic."

"Is this floor magic circle?" Aion asked while looking around trying to understand what he already had saw.

"I guess all of them are… I can understand now," Sauros said while walking around. "Instead of undead creatures being controlled by something. It seems that your ancestor summoned copies of people that she knew to protect each floor. For this kind of magic, one would need a magic circle that has the memories or the data of someone… maybe she used their blood or hair or something to summon them. Either way, they aren't undead creatures, and they are copies without a soul that had a small part of their wills."

It seemed that Aion could feel more mana because more mana would be needed to make copies of stronger guys. Either way, magic circles… he had also read about it, but it was a thing of the past since they required too much time to draw. Still, it seemed that they all had some strong points.

It looked like they were similar to runes… while they needed some time to be prepared, they could better suit the needs of those who made them. In any case, Aion didn't feel the mana around disappearing, only decreasing a bit. It felt like the circle would recover its mana eventually to summon the same person to protect the floor… so if he failed, Aion wouldn't have opened the path for someone else.

"What do you think, Seris?" Sauros asked.

"The magic circle was made on the layer between the last floor ceiling and this floor. Some spell to prevent the tower from being damaged in all parts also was cast, and that spell probably uses the mana that the tower drains from the environment to protect the magic circles," Seris explained. "I won't say that it is impossible to destroy them, but it will be hard. Also, it wouldn't be weird if this tower has some sort of mechanism that will activate several magic circles to summon a lot of enemies to stop us if we try that."

"I guess we shouldn't do that, then…" Sauros said while forcing a smile. "Let's complete her challenge the way it was intended."

That seemed like a pain to Aion, but it would be annoying if all the guardians of all floors suddenly appeared to attack him… annoying but a bit interesting as well. In any case, Aion wasn't suicidal, so there was no point in doing that.

"It seems that she also could find some holes in the relics… now you understand my worries?" Sauros asked.

"No," Aion replied.

"It is hard to consider this time travel, but can you imagine how someone can use this knowledge to affect the past?" Sauros asked.

"Maybe it is possible to make a copy of myself by using this kind of magic circle, but it will probably be impossible to control perfectly," Aion said. "I don't have enough knowledge to think how I can summon a copy like that to the past, though."

"You got the gist of things, and you can make a copy with your will," Sauros said. "As for how to send the copy to the past…"

"Maybe there is some sort of way to add that kind of effect to the magic circle, or maybe create a second layer while connecting both," Aion said. "The first would work to defy time and space after getting enough mana to do that, and once it was possible, it would send the second circle to the point in time determined."

Sauros didn't confirm or deny that, but Aion could feel the intense glares coming from behind. It seemed that his guess was a pretty good one… or Maybe those two never imagined that it would be something like that…

The group headed toward the next floor, and things didn't change that much. Aion faced a female spearman, a fire mage, and then a man that could make the air vibrate with his fists. The difficulty level was increasing, but he managed to win by himself.

Since Aion could tell that things would change a bit on the next floor, which was the tenth, he wondered if it was time to improve some of the skills of his class. He hadn't been using them a lot, and their levels were low since Aion only fought small fries aside from the frozen Medusa head… in any case, he decided to make his choice once he reached the next floor and found the enemy.

Sauros and Seris also looked nervous since they also had the feeling that things would change on the next floor… However, they didn't notice anything that much different when it came to the mana level or the appearance of the floor.

Things changed a lot when another cloaked figure appeared and immediately began to fly. After opening its arms, some purple mist began to leave the interior of the cloak, and Aion could tell that was some bad news…
