Chapter 180 Hunt

After passing through some trees, Aion noticed that the Island was quite silent. There was no sound of insects… only the sound of the wind against the vegetation. Although Aion could find the targets by using his mana around, he didn't want to spoil the surprise. Besides, that would be good training for his reaction speed. He had to use all of these opportunities wisely.

In the end, Aion's instincts began to warn him when he had walked more than one hundred meters. The monsters around were pretty smart. They decided to make him approach in order to give him fewer chances of running away.

All of a sudden, Aion heard the sound of wings flapping pretty fast, and when he looked above, he saw some giant blue bees. They were on the size of humans, and their sting was half of their size… so it was pretty much a short sword.

When the bees left the safety of the tree's foliage, they flew in a straight line toward Aion's head. Since the level of the class wasn't high, his speed also had decreased a lot. Still, Aion jumped and rolled to the ground at the last moment, and when he turned around to Aim at the monsters, he saw them flying upward in a large arc.

Thanks to that, Aion had an easy time reading their movements, and when they began to turn around, one of them got an arrow on their heads.

"Oh, not bad…" Aion thought.

The other bees turned around and then suddenly began to fly in opposite directions. Still, their arc turned toward him again… For a bunch of stupid monsters, they knew a thing or two about ambushes.

Aion selected his target and then nocked his arrow. He waited until the last moment to see if the monsters would let one of them be sacrificed in order for the other to get the prey… They did exactly that.. still, instead of attacking, Aion lowered his stance while throwing himself on the ground and turned around. When the monsters were right side by side, he fired, and the arrow pierced both of them.

"Hmm, this was different than I had envisioned… I wanted to snip the targets instead of learning how to fight with a bow at a close range," Aion rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

In any case, Aion made his weapon absorb the monsters, and then he got some fur, meat that certainly wasn't supposed to be Eaten, blue wings, and the blue sting that had a small sleeping effect. The stings could be used to enhance the long bow, and their quality was pretty good, so it would increase its power pretty fast.

Training like that was fine, and all, but Aion wanted to hone his enhancing skills. So, he used his mana to find the location of the hidden bees nearby. He thought that they would be close to a hive, but he didn't find anything like that with his mana.

The enemies that were hidden behind the foliage, Aion managed to snipe, and while his arrows probably could pierce the trees if he used Power Shot, that would be too noisy. He just moved to the side and then sniped the monsters without getting too close. Aion already knew that when hunting, he had to be wary of the wind for his smell not to reveal his position. The wind could also cover his mistakes, like stepping on branches when approaching the target… As long as it is against him.

Aion had the chance to put all that knowledge into practice. So when he had a hard time finding enemies, he returned to the Beach feeling accomplished. He hoped to find a beehive and some honey since it would be great materials, but that would be for later.

"You are back. We still are working on getting the supplies," Sauros said. "But we should finish it soon since you dealt with the monsters."

"That was refreshing," Aion said. "Anyway, this stop will cost us what, two or three days?"

"Exactly two days," Sauros said. "I was planning to stop somewhere, but I think we should hurry up to our next destination. Getting what he wants will make our possible enemies warier of us. We can use that to make them think too much and be unable to read our moves."

"I don't like the idea of ignoring this problem, but we have more pressing matters to attend to," Seris said. "This mission will already last for a while, so we can't afford to waste any more time. We will have to get supplies using other means. As for the information that we usually get while traveling around… It isn't like we can do anything about it until we finish this mission."

It seemed that those two had already made their choice… Focus on the mission and leave that problem for later. The only issue is that if the problem gets in the way of the mission again.

"Do you guys have informants in the next country?" Aion asked.

"We do, but things are more complex this time," Sauros replied.

"Aside from what we told you of our next destination, that country is also a superpower that is always trying to expand its territories. That is why they became the largest kingdom of the current era," Seris added. "They are always waging war against their neighbors. Still, while they have a ruler, their power isn't centralized. The reason for that is the fact that every few years, the new ruler is determined by the general who has the most soldiers and has accomplished more than the others."

That really seemed like a weird country, but what Aion heard was just the beginning. Since it was an extremely militaristic country, the armies didn't cooperate with one another. Hence, gathering intel about battles was difficult since the generals could use that against each other.
